I got 2nd hand embarrassment from our resident MooMoo here lmao. Reminds me of the time I forced my roommate to listen to Mamamoo - it did not work. In the end, she listened to them herself and now is a moomoo, too.

Mamamoo is definitely the best vocalists in terms of girl groups, even though other groups also have very good vocalists, it’s usually just 1 or 2 that’s top tier, but in mmm they’re all very very good. But individually, Ailee is probably the best kpop vocalist, and Sohyang the best korean singer overall. Might be a bunch of good guys out there aswell, but I don’t listen to them 😅

Just a quick FYI, Hwa Sa's name is pronounced Wa Sa (the H is silent, or very soft depending on who you talk too, but in A LOT of videos, and most I've seen of HER saying her own name, it sounds like WA SA).

Now I love Solar, but she doesn't surpass Whitney, and Celine ... you need to give respect where it's due, it's not cool to disrespect the original singers, I'm sure Solar wouldn't want you too. She does do an Amazing job, and I know Celine would give her props, but not cool disrespecting like that, the same saying Whee In is "ending" Mariah's career, come on :(, or she is "schooling" Ari, she did the cover because she likes Ari, and the song. Thankfully you didn't say anything disrespectful about Hwa Sa and her Idols, or people she did covers of their music. ... We don't want to make people dislike Mamamoo but saying things like this, and having MooMoos saying disrespectful things like this, will not put Mamamoo in a good light.
For me, solar didn’t surpasses them since she herself look up on those artists since she was young but solar indeed did really good job with covers since it suits her vocals. Her powerful vocals just everything to die for

Also fun fact for him when it comes to vocals and we are speaking on a technical aspect mamamoo is better than the most western “vocally” artist nowadays. If we take for example wheein she has a support range of G#3-C#5 with a overal range of Eb3 - E6. That it’s self is not mind blowing but still really good and the fact that she has a full control of switch between head, mix and falsetto is overly impressive. And her breath control is chef kisses.
A lot of singers don’t even support properly even tho it might sound fantastic the vocal cord is damaging
I think some people don't understand how hard is support that low breathy tone that WheeIn does.

We love Mariah and all the western singers that he mentioned. But can Mariah do a full routine dance and sing live at the same time? I don’t think so. Think about that aspect as well. I don’t think you can compare Western artist to Kpop though. Kpop is a different league and genre of artistry-it’s training for both dancing and singing skills everyday of their life since they are trainees. But before you do compare (to your friend), please watch more Kpop videos, I think it’s just lack of exposure to all other content out there. Not all members of Kpop groups are Vocalists but there are great vocalists in Korea that I would say is on par if not better than most Western artists because they have trained intensely since they are vert young: IU, MAMAMOO, Ailee, Wendy (Red Velvet), Hyorin (Sistar), Jonghyun (SHINee), Chen & Baekhyun (EXO) to name some. Anyways, no hate here just putting some info out there and more context but keep in mind “West is not always the Best” (if he had that in mind).
