i have walked down oxford street 100s of times in the 40 years, this is wonderful to see, sad also as have those names have gone now, woolworths, littlewoods, to name a few, even then it was busy, but cleaner.

Love these little time travel trips. The roads filled with classic cars of the era etc and the everyday people of half a century ago.

Road ramp over Oxford Circus, this was in place whilst the Victoria line was being built in the mid 60’s

I worked at Peter Robinson shop on the Strand 1966 -1968 and I went to the Oxford Street shop on mornings to clear the tills (paper record) at that time "Top Shop" was one of the departments, nice video.

Bourne and Hollingsworth for the school uniform
Woolworths for the sweets and stationary
Waring and Gillow for the trunk
    Littlewoods for Uncles ciggies
    Peter Robinson for the knickers
A jump over the bridge at Oxford Circus while the victoria line was being done.
    A quick flick in BHS
    Lunch in DH Evans
    Tea in Marshall and Snelgrove
    I SEE IT ALL.

Beautiful England. Those full length coats and macs have welland truly gone out of fashion.

When they were building the Victoria line they had to build a raised bridge over Oxford Circus so that they could rebuild the station without disrupting traffic

That raised roadway - with barriers - over Oxford circus is really weird . I never knew that it had existed until watching this video .

Andy - That part interested me too. I found out on Wikipedia that it was there from some point in 1963 until April 1968 as part of the works being undertaken to connect Oxford Circus tube station to the Victoria line. Here's a link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxford_Circus (Look under the section which mentions the tube station)

In the early 60s one could just park outside any shop in Oxford St - in the 50s there weren't even meters.

I was born in 1960 and women started to wear trousers in public in about the late 1960s as far as I remember and it was not the done thing for women to wear trousers in public but fashion trends were beginning to change at that time.
