I love this channel. I was going to send a hard drive to you to get the data off of it despite major physical damage but after years of watching I decided to give it a shot myself and succeeded. The sky is the limit if you believe in yourself
I got a laptop drive from my sis, think it's 1TB WD drive, that got thousands of pictures on her children when they were kids. What was wrong with yours and how did ya fix it? This one seems to have problems reading it but it seems to do a bit better when frozen but as it's so small it get warm pretty quick so I'm thinking of putting it in the freezer with cables hanging out to a laptop and do 'dd' to a file that I later can check. Whaddya think?
@@AliensInc. disclaimer: i'm not a data recovery specialist. if it works in a freezer, the time is the issue. Hwole 1TB will take ages to copy. If You know where those files are located and the drive is not encrypted, then you could boot a LiveCD and copy just those photos. This also seems to be an issue with bearings, so a platter transplant might be a viable option to reliably copy the data.

I am beyond gratified right now. I just did my first repair on a smartphone with a hot air machine. It was a bad charging port. And it was you who inspired me Louis. Thank you. While I'm not interested in fixing macbooks so much as I am with fixing smartphones, I do appreciate your commentary on them and learning how they work just for the sake of it. What I have learnt over the years watching Louis is that it’s all about power management. A computer won’t power up, a small portion of the power management circuit is fried, we float off (and replace) a component or IC, power restored. Aren’t there machines that come in, power up, and manifest other problems?
Yep, I should have said machines that “manifest other *hardware* problems”. It’s almost like a car garage where the problem with every car is that it won’t start. Maybe it’s the nature of computer diagnostics that if the clutch is slipping, the car won’t start.
Hey Louis, What would you suggest for a heatsink where you stripped the threads on the motherboard trying to re-attach the CPU cooler? Anyway of repairing that with some kind of filler material? I've currently been using a spring setup supported by the internals to keep tension on it but rather a more proper-ish fix. Before you blame the POS, it's an older dell workstation *gasp* and over 12 years old, and I should stop working out my wrist so much ;)
Hmm I did have a question on this one. With the jumper on the same side of the exposed trace, wouldn't the jumper just be serving to bridge past the cap? Maybe I missed something.
Not possible considering the heatsinks are admittedly of high quality materials, and are at their limit due to their small size in such a small clearance, other than the new macbook pro with placebo cooling that is just pure cheap garbage engineering.
Nice. Good tutorial. Its amazing. Even my Electrons professor in Collage couldn't make it that well in his classroom. I really wish there were more people like that.
Enjoy your repairs. I have owned 6 laptops and 1 iBook G4 and none have ever failed to turn on due to CPU (Shrek shit 😆) only had one screw up due to hard disk drive. Puts me off buying one!
I have some questions. I've been working on copying my dvds and blu rays onto an external harddrive. Mostly for space and becuase i don't trust digital services not to edit or delete the movies I payed for. I have a 3TB usb harddrive from Toshiba. I'm trying to find an external cd/dvd/bluray drive and which is the best software to allow me to copy my movies. I know there is a DMCA or something that the software has to get around. I reinterate that I own these movies. I'm not sure which will be the best external player or software. I also wonder if 3TB will really be enough. I saw some ppl have things as big as 20TB for movies and things but it seems dangerous to have so much stored in one place. Instead I'm thinking maybe 2 or 3 6TB external harddrives in the future when i get to that. Thoughts?
ketami2 Re software for ripping Blu-ray (assuming you have a Blu-ray drive ) use MakeMKV to rip then use Handbrake to convert the MKV files to MP4. For regular dvd just use Handbrake.
What ever happened to just dividing the voltage evenly using math and resistors....rather than punching an inductor continuously and smoothing it with capacitors?
Simples, transistors enjoy punching inductors far more then resistors enjoy doing their jobs. AKA: Its far more efficient, in a voltage divider excess energy is dissipated as heat in the resistors, in a buck converter very little energy is lost. Supplying like 30 watts (roughly what a mobile CPU uses) at 1 volt from 12 volts using a voltage divider, you'll end up having to dissipate 100s of watts in the resistors.

There's a certain charm in watching New Yorkers explain electronics by analogy of punches to the face.
First thing we do is spray it with corona....almost sprayed my keyboard with coffee.
Well, at least now we know why NY became such a hot spot for corona.
new york is a hot spot because the city and state government has a political motive to lie about it. also maybe because everyone is packed into the city like a tin of sardines. but mostly the politics

I don't think he does software issues. Mainly HDD data recovery and motherboard repairs

Thanks for the video. I have a question. Do you talk to the boards when your not filming?
:)
Their scared, he has to calm them.
Some are scared, some are suffering a PTSD after an encounter with another service. Keeping the patient calm is good bed manners.
