ABOUT THE CHURCH
St. Cross Parish Church, Clayton, Manchester was designed by architect William Butterfield and it is a Grade II* Listed building. Work began on the church in 1862 and it was opened in 1866 at a total cost of £10,172 with seating for 650 people. The church is in Gothic style and Butterfield employed his trademark decoration of 'Structural Polychromy' by using red brick walls with decorative bands and patterns of stone and dark or 'blue' bricks. patterns of stone and dark or 'blue' bricks.
