This was BY FAR my favorite of this episode that you’ve done so far! Such an amazing thing for you to take advantage of your semi-sheltered food repertoire to give us your experience. I’ve also never had Cuban food, and now I will try some. I do think that if you give a business such glowing feedback like this one, you should name the restaurant! Obviously, if the food is terrible don’t out them (unless they deserve it! Haha). But if the good small business could benefit even just a little bit from your shoutout, then what an amazing thing you’ve done for them!
"semi-sheltered food repertoire" haha is a perfect way to say my food pallete haha I didn't shout them out because the business is close to where I live and for safety reasons I chose not to but I'll consider it in the future
Hi Christine, I'm a long-time follower and fan. I'm Cuban-American and I live in Miami. Thank you so much for showcasing our wonderful food. I'm lucky enough to eat what you presented as well as other Cuban food all the time. Just some comments: There is definitely no "tortilla" in Cuban food, at least not how you meant. In Cuban cuisine, tortilla is what we call omelettes. There is no hot spice in Cuban food, except in extremely rare instances, and even then, it's not really a thing. Puerto Rican mojo and Cuban mojo are different - typical Cuban mojo will not have cilantro, Cuban mojo is basically Sour Orange (that's an actual fruit) juice, garlic, and olive oil. The chicken sandwich you had is not a typical Cuban sandwich option, if you ever go back I recommend you get Pan con Lechón (roast pork sandwich) which is Cuban bread, marinated roast pork, smothered in sauteed onions, and Cuban mojo. And of course, you should try an actual Cuban sandwich, or as some people call it, a Cubano - it shouldn't have lettuce or tomato - it should be Cuban bread with mustard, dill pickle, roast pork, sweet ham, and Swiss cheese, and then the sandwich is pressed - nothing more nothing less. Unless you're eating the Tampa version of the Cuban sandwich, to which they add salami - a fun debate in Cuban circles. Pastelito de Carne is my favorite Cuban pastry, but try the Guava pastry and the Guava and Cheese pastry - those are sweet, delicious, and very traditional. I suggest you try a regular Cuban coffee (Cafecito), it's served in a tiny cup - like a demitasse - or in a plastic thimble-sized cup, it's very dark and sweet. If you want to see traditional Cuban recipes, check out this blog - we have an easy Ropa Vieja recipe, as well as Black Beans, Yuca, and other delicious food - cubanfood.blogspot.com ¡Buen provecho!
You’re right on point. We have NO spicy hot condiments and another thing we don’t used is cilantro. As garnish we use parsley and my mom would add to the black beans Culantro but no cilantro. People tend to confuse our cuisine with other Caribbean Cuisine with hot spices. Christine is right describing the origin of our dishes. But you got it altogether.
Thank you for the link. I have been reading some of the recipes and I’m going to try my hand at some delicious looking cuban stews. Winter is just around the corner and some of these dishes look perfect for a cozy meal!
As a daughter of Cuban parents I am so glad you loved the food! It is delicious. Also I liked how you integrated the history after trying each dish/item. Some other yummy options to try next time if you go back to that restaurant : yuca, ham croquettes, guava and cheese pastries and pollo a la plancha (not all together of course haha) Tfs!
My abuelo used to buy hard, round crackers the size of your hand. We would butter them and eat them with our rice and beans. Do you know what they are called? 😂 I don't remember; I was so young.
I've never had Cuban food but now I am googling where I can find some ! This is one of my favorite "Never have I ever " that you have done! Thank you !! I'm certainly gonna get me some Cuban food !!
I’m Puertorican/Dominican and have so many Cuban friends and ropa vieja is DELICIOUS! I love that you do the research about the culture and the history of the food as well. I really enjoyed this! I hope you keep trying different foods!
Do a traveling show in your area like MO Rocca did Grandma's Ravioli show. They cooked a dish and talked about it's history and culture. You'd be great at that, you love making people laugh and comfy
One time in history class we got assigned a country and had to write a paper about it as well as bring a food/snack known from that country and it was so fun learning about it
I LOVE this series!! You make me cry laughing each time. You're a natural comedian. As someone who was raised with the type of food you tried today (Portuguese, French etc) in Europe, the fast food made me squirm a bit - I know, I know, but we don't do fast food like you guys do in the States I feel like. If you could move to home-made types of foods it would be awesome! It was so wholesome. And you're not going to like everything for sure but at least it will be nicer, non-industrial stuff?
I love your Never Have I Ever, videos. Lived in South Florida for a while and love Cuban food. Couldn't stop laughing with you at the food review and yes the flavors are awesome as well as the food. If you like the mixed flavors of Cuban food, I'd suggest Moroccan food. But TBH, you've just scratched the surface of Cuban food. There are so many other delicious dishes you can try. Thank you for all your videos and TikToks. You are by far one of my favorite UA-camrs. ❤
I work with a lady and her and her husband are from Cuba.. he comes in once a week and makes everyone cuban coffee... he makes it fresh... its so amazing and like nothing else
Obsessed with plantains 🤤 Can eat them every single day. Some of the best Cuban food I've ever had was in Miami, of course 😂. I've never been to Cuba yet. I can not remember what I had but everything was extremely delicious.
I grew up on this food and it makes me so happy to see others enjoying Cuban cuisine. I’ve never seen your videos before but you seem like such a beautiful person and I love your humor.
I’ve always wanted to try Cuban coffee and food! And I liked this style of NHIE, with the tidbit info mixed in with the trying. Worked out great in my opinion.
I’m from Miami and I am so happy you tried cuban cuisine. You said you don’t like beans.. you just haven’t had the right beans haha fyi- when you get the cortadito, do that be surprised that it is a small cup. It’s a concentrated coffee drink.
Ohhhhhh! I’m an Illinois Cuban and I know EXACTLY what restaurant this is - I go 2x/week! I am so so so happy you enjoy the food! I highly recommend trying the sodas! Materva is from Yerba Mate and is like a cream soda. Jupina is a pineapple soda. My favorite is Ironbeer - it’s a delightfully light and fruity Dr Pepper taste. There’s actually 4 kinds of ways to serve Cuban coffee: Cafecito, Colada, Cortadito, and the Cafe con Leche that you had. Check out Cafecito for sure, but make sure you have a friend to share the Colada - lots of caffeine. So good though I’m seriously so happy you enjoyed the food and the comments here are so positive!
I've never tried Cuban food before but it would be interesting to try and this was a great video and like the route ur taking with trying different cuisines
Never had Cuban food myself ! And now I really want to try it! But I live in a town that I don’t think even has authentic Cuban food. It’s probably all Americanized, and bland 😅 time for me to do some research of my own and find it!
I am loooving this review and research! So awesome to be vulnerable and educate yourself and share with all of us. I’m elated you loved the food!! I know personally that it’s so F’ing good!!!! Bonus, you supported local and it was “homemade “ not big chain 🥰
We also have those pastries with meat inside that are delicious. Haven't eaten them in years as I am vegan but there are vegan versions by now for sure. I don't live in Portugal anymore but I am always surprised no one has taken our savoury snacks and capitalized on them.
@@joananeves1371 Right! And rissóis de camarão 🤤 I think the problem is that people are barely aware that Portugal is a country to begin with, haha! Spain (understandably) gets a ton of attention when it comes to their food, but we're right next door! I once had a non-Portuguese colleague bring pasteis de nata to a potluck and tried to explain to me what they were and how good they are. I had to explain to him I'm Portuguese and know *very* well how good they are lmao. At least those who have a Portuguese bakery around them know our secret! 😉
Never have I ever , but it looked wonderful! If I ever have the opportunity to eat a Cuban meal again , I will definitely not hesitate! Thank you Christine for helping me feel brave to try Cuban dishes. To be honest I saw Cuban sandwich on a menu in Lauderdale years ago and I was afraid it would be too spicy hot, but you have showed today that although very flavorful my mouth won’t be set on fire❤ I’m one of those people that do not enjoy a painful meal lol , I learned a few things about Cuban food reading the comments so if you will excuse me I’m going to google Cuban food near me...
When you go back, you need to try empanadas, tostones, yuca frita, and pressed and buttered Cuban bread. You dip it in your Cuban coffee. I'm from Florida and I'm Cuban. This is my favorite breakfast.
I lived in Miami for 15 years and every morning before going to work I’d get cafe con leche & toastada Cubana and the cafecito shots that would be passed around literally all day long. Make you heart race.
DAAAANG! That looked incredible! I, too, have never had Cuban food. Thanks to you, Christine, I'm gonna! 😂❤ Also, little tip for the perfect high five...Look at the elbow of the person you're high fiving mid swing! I know, I know. JUST TRY IT! 😂 Much love to you! ❤❤❤❤❤
Your commentary made me feel very grateful to be half Cuban and to grow up surrounded by the culture and food 🥹
ya very lucky cause the food ROCKS!
I love the fact that u r expanding the "Never Have I Ever..." series. definitely try Jamacian food next
Omg that would be fun - I'd have to really search for a place

Totally agree. Maybe there's a different reason why she's chosen to not shout them out and she'd just rather not say...!?! 🤷🏼♀️
"semi-sheltered food repertoire" haha is a perfect way to say my food pallete haha I didn't shout them out because the business is close to where I live and for safety reasons I chose not to but I'll consider it in the future
