As a teen my dermatologist prescribed retinol that I wiped my face with nightly. I can recall my face tingling all night long and my complexion being flushed looking all the time. The dermatologist never spoke about using sunscreen along with the prescription. I guess he missed that class. Sun damage isn't a new concept!

I use tretinoin 0.025 %. I've used it 2 times already. It's recommended by dr. Dray who says that tretinoin can actually increase the thickness of dermis layer and stimulate collagen production. She also says that tretinoin is the gold standard of anti aging, besides sun protection. Tretinoin worth your money. If you can master the use of it, you can steer clear from skin stuff such as peptide, Vit C etc which can sometimes be super duper expensive. And from the previous video of Dr Davin's, he says that you can use tretinoin by mixing it with other moisturizer to dilute the consentration, to make your skin a little tolerable. So, I decided to buy it. And now my journey of tretinoin still goes on. Thank you, Dr. Lim

This explains SO much. I went to various doctors and dermatologists over the years and the acne creams they’d prescribe me would all irritate my skin and make it worse. I tried over the counter retinal and my skin has improved tremendously. I don’t know why doctors won’t just tell parents to try over the counter when prescription medicine is clearly too harsh for them.

Typically when you aren’t seeing changes in your skin anymore. These help your skin exfoliate on a regular basis so when your skin start to look dull, you are getting more acne, your pores look clogged and you been on the same product for awhile and tolerate it well it’s usually time to bump it up. Hence why it’s good to see a dermatologist so you can have help deciding when it is time to make a switch.

Hello, love watching your channel. Want to ask why retinaldehyde is not more popular among skincare brands. I understand it should be more powerful than retinol but not have side effects of retinoic acid. Would you recomnend using it over retinol? I only found Medik8 and Avene as companies which actually use it in there products and indicate % of ritinaldehyde in it. Are you aware of others? Do you think they are safer to use than retioic acid?

    • @fgostoryteller2168

Retinaldehyde is more difficult to stabilize. The side effect won’t be as drastic as retinoic acid. It a good starting place if you want to start a vitamin A. Medik8 and Avene are quite pricy lol

Can you review FaceTheory? I had a 2% retinol serum that worked well but it had lactid acid in it.

Hi Doc! The skincare my dermatologist curated for me is cleanse > moisturizer > tretinoin at night. Is there any way I can add the ordinary niacinamide to this PM routine?

What do you think of retinaldehyde. Is it just as good as tretinoin or should people just settle with tret if their skin can handle it?

Quick question: I’m in my mid 20’s and was wondering if it’s time to transition into Tretinoin? I’ve been using prescription Tazarotene and have used Adapalene gel for adult acne. I know they also have anti-aging properties, but would Tretinoin be more efficacious for both anti aging and acne?

Should application be avoided on couperose nasal wings/folds? Because of increased vessels.

In comparison to other products such as vitamin c, aha, bha, etc, it’s probably the most effective, but in comparison to the vitamin A family, it’s on the weaker side. If you choose not to get a prescription retinoid, you still get a lot of benefits from retinol.

Very informative. I just have a question if anyone has an answer.
When you are trying to get your skin used to retinoids, retin A, how far can you push it. If you are a little pink do you back off or keep going? What sort of parameters do you use?

    • @AngelofHogwarts

Apparently, the retinization period ("the retinoid uglies") can last from 4-6 weeks. It's considered normal to experience flakiness, peeling, redness, and itchiness during that time. Anything much longer than that is probably not a good sign and you should consult a derm.
I'm starting 0.045% Tazarotene in a few days and I'm bracing myself for the uglies lol. I've got CeraVe Healing Ointment, CeraVe Moisturizing Cream, Cicaplast Baume B5, and La Roche Posay SPF 60 on standby. :P

Hi. Thank you for this informative video. Can I use other actives like AHA ,BHA or azelaic acid on days that I don’t use retinoid?

    • @JB-ux7ql
      @JB-ux7ql 4 роки тому

Yes you can or alternate those active in the am, retinoid at night if your skin can handle it. I’d go very easy on other actives though as it can really exacerbate irritation.
