What are your thoughts on the simple path to wealth (100% VTI or maybe 80% VTI & 20% VXUS) vs dividend investing? Wouldn’t buying total market funds have higher expected returns?
I made an entire video on this a few weeks ago that might explain it better. You can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/ZL9uEQBhcao/v-deo.html
Great content.. I feel like I can actually trust you! Thanks!
Appreciate you saying that. Thanks for watching!
As an Australian we have to also work out franking credits, which can make the dividend payouts harder to work out.
Id highly recommend people look at some of the aussie companies for part of their dividends, stable large companies that pay out pretty decent and stable dividends.
Thanks for the tip!
What are your thoughts on investing a lump sum at once vs weekly or monthly contributions. I have a little over 250K to start with, but have been debating with myself if I should start with all at once or following a recurring deposit approach?
I think your callout about MSFT and time horizon is a great callout. Personally i always pay way more attention to a company if i own shares, so anything i want to own i at least buy some token shares. For somebody that has decades in front of them that is using regular DCA to buy in i would argue not to worry too much about price and just keep buying.
This is why I like M1's pie system. You are automatically buying what is underweight. I have not had to worry about picking up more MSFT for a while now.
I have mixed feelings about that
Hey Mike! Exactly! The dynamic rebalancing is a huge advantage especially if you want to make it completely passive while dollar cost averaging into your portfolio
Great channel Jake. I'm in Australia where we have compulsory Superannuation employers must contribute to, currently 11% on top of salary. So we can choose to use our take home salary to spend, or to invest or top up our Super. I have been following you for a few months and have $175k invested into the ASX in dividend paying shares with dividend reinvestments, a bank and a mining company. My goal is invest half my take home pay, about $70k a year and retire and live off the income in 6 years. Im also lucky (or invested wisely) and have been able to purchase three houses that I rent out. I will sell two and cash in and invest in further dividend paying stocks too. The housing market in Australia is ridiculous and I can't see it growing much more but we can claim the interest and expenses on tax so it's a very popular investment in Australia. Thanks for the motivation.
Hey there! Sounds like you got a good plan! Yeah I’ve heard the real estate prices in Australia are crazy. What are your favorite Australian companies to invest in for dividend growth?
@@DividendGrowthInvesting we have 4 massive banks here. I think Westpac has the best value and is a bank I am in heavily. I also have some Woodside petroleum and my other favourite is Yancoal. Yancoal pay 11% yield and have for a few years.
@@shanea9613 banks and energy. Good to know!
At some point I want this wow you know your stuff 😮
Super is such a scam, for the bottom half of the country it's a drag in their wages.
And don't get me started on the fact that even reaching preservation age they still won't allow you to do what you want with your money.
Although long live franking credits lol
First!! ❤
wow you are fast!
Jake reinvested his special dividend back into Costco. Well done.
lol sure did!! No regrets!
Love your content and keep up the good memes! ❤
Thank you!
Hi Jake!
hi there :)
When and how do you see that they are using Debt to pay the dividend? When Ratio is above 100%? In that case same for REITS that pay above 100or 110%????
At the end when I cover REITs, you don't look at the PE or dividend payout ratio shown on seeking alpha. You would want to look at FFO or AFFO dividend payout ratio. But yeah, if a company is above a 100% payout ratio, they are paying more in a dividend than they made in earnings. This could come from their cash on the balance sheet or from debt.
@@DividendGrowthInvesting thanks…. meant in general on other segments too…. how do you determine that they are using their outstanding debt to pay for the dividend? Other sectors other than REITs
Basically is it if 100% or more ratio above their earnings? And how long in this situation before you are concerned for their future
Example MMM or others …guess they would cut dividend as MMM did recently
@@johnj4094 you would look at their balance sheet and see how much cash on hand and short term investments they have relative to their outstanding debt.
😂😂😂😂
lol
Hi
Hi there!
Ha Ha! Wish I had a time machine. I think I can safely say that everyone's investment goal is to grow their portfolio as much as possible with the least amount invested. Also, how taxes come into play.
Yeah we all want a piece of the pie. When we plan to live off our portfolio tends to be very different though.
@@DividendGrowthInvesting I should of added, thanks for another great episode and the effort that goes into producing a quality product.
If you have time to spare, don’t forget to let us know what years taxes are at their lowest. That way we can maximize our gains when we need to sell our gains.
