There probably going to be a hybrid of this and an EV. Similar to what is happening in the new Corvette. Acceleration from 0-60mph will be electric to perform sub 2 seconds launch, and the engine will kick in after 60mph to maintain the speed.

What's the poping noise ?
When you let off the gas and upshift the Gintani ECU Tune tells the injectors to inject some fuel into the cylinder on the exhaust stroke. Creating jet like flames.

I Don’t believe they were going full throttle. Telling by how slow the shifts were. I know, it’s a single clutch transmission, but at full throttle they shift a bit faster than that.
It's about the sound, not the speed. Not every loud car needs to go fast.
