Fraud? They never hid the support vehicles, or the remote factory support. They were very up front about the sponsorship of BMW and the other equipment. Fraud? Piss off. Those two series were a major inspiration to a lot of us, and the guys made a massive difference in a lot of our lives. Thanks Charlie for you and Ewan having shared it with us. You're a legend.
Spot on. Who cares about the details of the logistics. They have inspired so many, I know difficult to quantify but I bet generated millions in sales on motorcycle equipment and probably generated car driver awareness of motorcyclists on roads.
Charlie Boorman is such an inspiration. He doesn't hide who he is or what he's about. In an age where so many people act a particular way or polarise opinion intentionally, he just cracks on. He loves bikes and loves riding them. Making a living doing what you love is the ultimate dream. Good on him!
Two pivotal things brought me to motorcycling as a way of touring when I was 38 years old. The first thing was reading Neil Peart's "Ghost Rider" and the second thing was viewing "The Long Way Round." That sealed the deal. Got my driver's license and bought a bike the next month.... Thanks Charlie!
Watching Long Way Round years ago, working a desk job in Washington DC was such an inspiration to go riding and explore. YEARS later, I'm living in NZ and riding ADV bikes! Just finished my first KTM ADV rally here, and LOTS more planned. For so many of us, Charley and Ewan kicked it all off. Be critical if you like, but these blokes inspired a LOT of people. Can't WAIT to visit the Bike Shed MC in person, and see the shows. Thanks Charley, Ewan, Dutch and Ted Simon.
Great interview. The guy is honest and you can't ask for anymore than that. It doesn't matter if you ride BMW or Triumph or whatever, just do it your own way and enjoy!
What a honest man Charley is. I think that his scars in life really made him an empathetic, honest, humble and passionate caring human being at the same time. Thanks for that
great full on interview, I don't understand why some people criticize charley and ewan, IMO it is just pure jealousy. I'm sure if any of us will have the connections and opportunities to make it happen, we would not think twice to accept these financial helps like they did, we should congratulate them for actually doing the trips. because of these two filming their trips, push me for doing mine very soon, it may not be around the world;;;;;;(too expensive for me hahahaha!) more like around Europe for now with my new old 21 years old r1100gs and a mate. any trip is an adventure doesn't matter where you go
+sonic the stoner I don't know if its jealousy so much as these days people are so used to TV being "fake" that they assume, even subconsciously, that their trip was all staged in so far as when things were hard they just didn't show the support crew doing the heavy work. I personally would rather have someone else in a 4x4 or whatever toting my gear about, the less I have to carry on the bike the better, so if I could afford that then I would. If I can get my back problems sorted out I want to do a trip through the Simpson Desert by bike and I'd like to go with mates in a 4x4 carrying my gear since they don't ride but also want to do it.
I agree! They made a great series out of it, which I have watched several times. We all know (including Charlie and Ewan) that there are many many guys out there that are much more hard core. But these guys had the resources to make a documentary that has inspired many riders. These guys have my respect, as do they rest of you that head out on two wheels! Keep the rubber side down brothers, see ya on the trail!
I saw the adv spark between Charlie and his parents, especially his dad.. A pic of is parents on a MC back in 72. Charlie was able to break the bonds that tether dreamers us to the mundane.. it's his support group that contributed to make the dream happen. I say good for him!
I do like Charley but at times he does come across as a bit of a over-privileged arsehole, like he's better than people less fortunate, yes I'd jump at the chance to do the same as him & Ewan who wouldn't.
They get criticised for having a support crew and not being hardcore enough, but I think the Long Way series have all been fantastic, inspiring adventures, and the chemistry between Charley and Ewan is superb. Long Way Down maybe suffered from too tight a schedule, sticking too close to the support crew, and Ewan’s ex insisting on joining, but otherwise a great ride nonetheless.
it was their butts in the saddle, not someone else. just like in camping, some people bring a tarp and a knife only while others have tents and air mattresses still camping
I agree with Simo5000 - in fact i'd go further and say Charley is inspirational. I came to riding bikes late in my life and I love it. I don't have a life that accommodates long adventure rides - but I'm really pleased that someone is doing it, and I'm really pleased to listen to Charley documenting and promoting life as an adventure.
I love Charley and Ewan. I was getting into motorcycles and didn't know what type of bike I wanted to get. When I saw Long Way Around I said to myself "that's it." I knew that was for me. I have a lot of respect for them and I'm very great full that they did their documentary. My only complaint is that they need to do another trip.
Superb interview. Top bloke. Such a fascinating life and still seemingly has a good head on him. He had many chances to be a bit bitchy towards the other adventurers that use Long Way Round negatively as a marketing technique, but he didn't. He is so right, no adventures are the same, just do what you do and get what you want out of it. Just do it your own way!
Great interview. Hopefully time brings another amazing motorcycle challenges of Charley´s life we can be part of via TV. I wish to Charley many new experiences. Charley, keep your neverending enthusiasm and always do things as you wont to. You are great in it. Your life = your rules. We all should do so...
What a great guy. He's telling what it's all about. Take your bike and ride. A small trip or big trip, with or without a support car carrying the bags, in an organized group or on your own. Just ride en enjoy. Don't look down on people, do it your way and don't worry about how you look, what bike you ride, if you're experianced or not, if the look is ok. Just go out and do it.
I've been riding 50 years and for me Charley is a real deal motorcyclist. The time, effort and danger was also real. No Ewan and Charley's adventures are not on same level as Ted Simon's trip around the world but nobody's making the claim. Support or no not many of us could do these adventures. Lot of respect Charley.
Charles and Ewan got me me into biking once I watched the whole adventure series I knew I wanted a piece of that, whatever you ride it doesn't matter it's the feeling of freedom we're all looking for
I had no idea that his Father was such an acclaimed director. I don't recall them mentioning this in either motorcycle series. I suppose it really doesn't matter, but it is very interesting.
Great interview! Please Charlie do the Dakar again and film it! The regular coverage is just to boring. Every year I follow the event hoping to see and feel the real Dakar spirit, but it's never as good as your documentary. That actually made me feel part of it! Hope to visit the Bike Shed soon.
Search Lyndon Poskitt my friend. If you haven’t see him already, you should find it interesting. He films himself in races including doing the Dakar, solo (malle moto).
So great to sit and listen to charley, you 2 had convinced me to buy the BMW 1200GSA, in 2008, has been a solid (soldier proof) reliable bike. Have fun go Offroad
To anyone criticising the 'support' and 'crew' and budget etc etc, you are all missing one VITAL detail - Charley and Ewan succeeded because of their COMPETENCE. Competence as humans, as riders, presenters, actors, businessmen, they have the complete package. Film and television makers do not simply sign off on any old idea! So the very fact that the programmes were made on what was a bit of a niche thing (the biking element) is a sign that they both (BOTH) have something special. Also, ''adventuring'' is not your normal working class pursuit, it is normally done if you have money or some way of funding it and biking is strongly a working class thing, not exclusively but a good proportion. How many of you have even heard of Kevin Turner who rode a zx6 from Crystal Palace to Red Square? or Simon Limpus who took a WW1 Ural across Siberia? If you want ''real'' stories, go and read their books etc. Oh, you'd rather watch it on the sofa on the telly? Right well straight away you need viable people to actually be on T.V with some skill etc oh, I know......Right, so it's on TV then.....what exactly do you expect this to be like? To all be filmed on camera phones? by Ewan and Charlie? Its a T.V documentary, it HAS to be filmed/made/organised that way to be on T.V!! Stop being jealous of where Ewan and Charlie are in the hierarchy and do your own trip like Kevin and Simon did (to name two of many!)
And the other thing about it's only because of Ewan's 'fame' No. Wrong. When opportunities like this happen, they cannot simply hinge all on his fame, there has to be real genuine talent in all areas else, even with profile, it would be chucked out as an idea. Not to mention of course that Charlie's dad is the most important film director of a generation.
I just love Charley and Ewan. Both seem so nice and laid back and easy going with heart on the right place. Love their journies and wish for america trip by them. Wish them all the best. Id like Charley to try Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports and what he thinks of the bike :-)
Without a doubt Charlie is an extremely nice and genuine bloke. While I never really liked the long ways .... I did really like the other stuff by any means etc he's taken the chance and is a positive for biking Hope he gets well / fixed up soon
Ed March on a Honda C90 with his girl for a year and a half did some craziness crossing Canada in the middle of winter as well as other wild adventures.
I live in Mongolia and I’m British. I’m also an adventure bike rider. While Mongolia has changed a lot in terms of main roads (much more tarmac on main routes than when the LWR was filmed), it’s still remote and you’re days away from help in much of the countryside. That hasn’t changed. I have no doubt Charlie and Ewan were pretty isolated when their support crew went a different route. Air support? Hahahahaha. You people have no idea.
These guys got me back into motorcycle after a long hiatus. Not to mention what the Adventure bike industry owes Charlie and Ewan for re igniting the flames, and kicking off the glut for adventure bikes. Even people who barely ride or never touched a dirt road, know what a BMW GSA looks like or ran out to buy one. I wonder just how many they sold?
Charley doesn't seem himself here I love the interview though I'd love it if him and Ewan finally did long way up and complete the trilogy Lwr\ lwd my favourite programme/s of absolutely all time and got me the inspiration to start riding bikes some time ago to the present day .
Helge Pedersen was the first to drive a motorcycle through the Darien gap in the 80s. You should check out his book. 10 Years on 2 Wheels: 77 Countries, 250,000 Miles
Mr. Boorman My name is Tony Castro from Santa Clara Ca (Siliconvalley) I was hoping to find out two questions, 1- Will there be a long way up? 2-would you possible know who I can directly contact to volunteer for the Dakar rally? Thank you for your time. Lastly I really enjoyed the long way series. Tony
30 seconds in and charlie looks like hes about to get told off by the headmaster lol.... Relax Charlie we love you and want you to feel at ease lol i feel like i have known you Russ and Claudio forever
Hey Charley - so your next show is "No Wrong Way" (your quote) and you find and ride with different ADV riders around the world from the large, supported riders like LWR to your pink Vespa girls to the crazy 125cc single-rider guys - would be a great show :-)
Hii from Barcelona. I can see Ian Barry`s Falcon motorcycle? It was temporally or this bike still there? Where is this location ( for visit the place and see this fabulous bike) Thx and Cheers for Charly Boorman and company from Barcelona Cat Spain
Honestly, who really cares what other people think? I get a bit of a thrill just rolling my R1200GS outta the garage and zipping around the block to get my groceries. What makes you feel good is what you take with you... who cares about people who’s ultimate desire is to make you feel bad...
Always happy to get some chat from Charley, but the questions that got the most airtime were largely petty... nitpicking on whether he buys his own bikes, the questioning of the authenticity and hard core nature of the Long Ways, ghost writers, etc. ... Give the guy a break- he's out in the world sharing really fantastic adventures with all of us. The quality of character and value of content compared to most of the inane drivel out there pushed as " entertainment" is just amazing. It takes sacrifice to build stories like his, and it's a bad look to grill him on technicalities. He's not running for Prime Minister- leave off and let us just enjoy the Boorman adventures. Next time, let's hear what makes him tick, what things he discovered out there on the road that surprised him most, what the three things that are non- negotiables for a long-haul enduro, what are the things that were the toughest on the adventures that the camera doesn't see, and the like. Don't let the toxicity of most comment sections out into real life. Let's respect each other more than that.
Excellent doc no doubt, but the trip struck me as more of a race than an adventure. The unsung hero's were the 4wd support vehicles that provided the umbilical cord. The takeaway.. with enough $ and the right connections, any madcap dream is possible! And the frothing wannabes manacled to conventional lives cheer them on.😁
Charlie and Ewan were on the bikes and the did they miles. If someone else would prefer to do it a different way that is their option. Some people want to camp on the road and some stay in hotels. Some might eat steaks and some might say you have to eat worms and ants to be a purist. It does not matter. What matters is everyone make their own adventure as they would like to do it. Its all biking and these men have my respect. I wish I could do the same.
@@GeekMediaLtd Thanks, I just watched a interview of him from a few hours ago where he said he's still not fully recovered from it, horrid accident but glad he's making a full recovery
I used to have a video of the Dakar and this really pretty girl on a dirt bike landed badly and smashed the shit out of her face and got airlifted out in a coma.
Didn’t Charley first push KTM? Never a BMW loyalist to begin with so... not that it’s important but LWR started my love affair with BeyEmVey and I wouldn’t riding if they disappeared... but that’s just me.
think we should have dan walsh on this show, now that would be worth watching, not thats hes off his ead, i dont think he has one, the book "these are the days" are a must read just full of drug, beer fuel notes but it works
Is Charley alright? He's stammering, shuttering, half his face is less animated than the other... Please tell me he's had a few too many espressos, or he's just a bundle of nerves.
Jeez, I couldn't watch more than 10 minutes... Charley: "they they they, if if if , he he he, but but but, you you you, and and and" C'mon, spit it out. A 10 minute interview stretched out to God knows how long!
I watched 38 mins of this and Boorman stumbled on what should be a no brainer, having reflected on the whole interview the guy cant string a sentence in fact the guy when you do the reduction is just full of shit...
So your saying because he struggles to express himself he is full of s__t? How can a guy be full of s__t for answering questions honestly? Everyone is entitled to an opinion my friend, but you know the saying about "a__holes and opinions". Good on you Charley, you can now distinguish yourself a bit like your father for changing the course/popularity of ADV biking as he did movie making.

Totally agree. They went and did it and that's what counts.
Spot on. Who cares about the details of the logistics. They have inspired so many, I know difficult to quantify but I bet generated millions in sales on motorcycle equipment and probably generated car driver awareness of motorcyclists on roads.

Enjoyed the full version as well! He's a good bloke & done well in turning his life around. Good on him.
Excellent interview, Charlie's a top bloke & he & Ewan raised the adventure profile. I bet KTM are sorry they said No to them😀
Great interview. The guy is honest and you can't ask for anymore than that.
It doesn't matter if you ride BMW or Triumph or whatever, just do it your own way and enjoy!

let the purest hate. Charlie & Ewan has inspired so many people me included.
Superb interview. Top bloke. Such a fascinating life and still seemingly has a good head on him.

Great interview. Chalie is such a all round top bloke, and a great Ambassador for m/biking. I Salute you Sir
Great interview. Hopefully time brings another amazing motorcycle challenges of Charley´s life we can be part of via TV. I wish to Charley many new experiences.
Charley, keep your neverending enthusiasm and always do things as you wont to. You are great in it.
Your life = your rules. We all should do so...
enjoyed your trip dvd! thank you for sharing Charlie :-}

Nice down to earth bloke great interview cheers.
As a deaf person of similar age I understand completely what his school life must of been like 😦
Very enjoyable interview. Excellent!

Absolutely, Lyndon is another top bloke his Dakar journals and 'races to places' series on UA-cam are brilliant.
Bravo to you Charley, keep keeping it real, I’ll follow you around! Thanks from Montreal!
SO glad I found this channel. SUBSCRIBED!!!
So great to sit and listen to charley, you 2 had convinced me to buy the BMW 1200GSA, in 2008, has been a solid (soldier proof) reliable bike. Have fun go Offroad
WHAT A GREAT EXAMPLE OF LIVING LIFE TO THE TOP YOU ARE, CHARLEY.CONGRATULATIONS!!! ;) VILLA DOLORES - CORDOBA - ARGENTINA
great bloke , thanks every one involved . there no wrong way of doing anything great quote
WELL SAID!!!
I just love Charley and Ewan. Both seem so nice and laid back and easy going with heart on the right place. Love their journies and wish for america trip by them. Wish them all the best. Id like Charley to try Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports and what he thinks of the bike :-)
You & Mc Gregor taught my kids how to swear by watching the long way series videos. You bastard charley 😉
Would love to see or read another expolartion of yours, hopefully catch you riding one day down Wales 👍 will look into when your speaking as well mate
Fantastic, so inspiring.
Without a doubt Charlie is an extremely nice and genuine bloke. While I never really liked the long ways .... I did really like the other stuff by any means etc he's taken the chance and is a positive for biking Hope he gets well / fixed up soon
Do long way round the other way! The world has changed a fair bit since Long Way Round and not for the better.
I'd rather see that than a Long Way Up any day. It could be dicey going back through the eastern Ukraine though.
its coming :)
Love Charley. Xxden big fan

Charley also lived in the Amazon for awhile. He had a really hot woman named Kichiri, and he rescued a bunch of women from a brothel.
BuckandOden nice reference bro 😂👍
Charley doesn't seem himself here
I love the interview though
I'd love it if him and Ewan finally did long way up and complete the trilogy

An open and frank conversation - very interesting. Pity about the mic setup of the interviewer .

Charlie and Ewen need to do the Long Way Up, sooner than later!
I really like Charley Boorman = Adventurer.
That's the truth... if you listened to the media you'd never go anywhere! 👍

Doesn't matter if you miss the "indoctrination " that school supplies, the school of life is the most important in my opinion.
So charley Boorman was one of the founding partners of the bike shed !?.
The way Charlie talks sounds like a two stroke bike,- And, and and ....and and and
I'm jealous
Excellent doc no doubt, but the trip struck me as more of a race than an adventure. The unsung hero's were the 4wd support vehicles that provided the umbilical cord. The takeaway.. with enough $ and the right connections, any madcap dream is possible! And the frothing wannabes manacled to conventional lives cheer them on.😁
IT'S. ASHAME WHY THEY. CRITICIZE CHARLEY AND. AWAN. WHY. JEALOUSY JEALOUSY .. JEALOUSY . OF .COURSE .
I wish I could do the same.
thats some off the ranch music
Hes a Protagonist
charlie is getting that way is anything he does i will watch, think he mas matured since the long way down days, but is still a nutter
Was this interview before or after his big bike accident ?
wolfe1970 it was a week before his crash
@@GeekMediaLtd Thanks, I just watched a interview of him from a few hours ago where he said he's still not fully recovered from it, horrid accident but glad he's making a full recovery
Interviewer is a bit of a knob
I used to have a video of the Dakar and this really pretty girl on a dirt bike landed badly and smashed the shit out of her face and got airlifted out in a coma.
Much better charlysinewan
Ted Simon was the original (well, Robert Fulton too)
For some reason I can't get excited about these guys. Different ages I guess.
@26:42 crepitus?
DAMN COULDN'T YOU SHOW US AROUND WHILE HE'S TALKING
Didn’t Charley first push KTM? Never a BMW loyalist to begin with so... not that it’s important but LWR started my love affair with BeyEmVey and I wouldn’t riding if they disappeared... but that’s just me.
Tell Erwin to wear deodorant this time
think we should have dan walsh on this show, now that would be worth watching, not thats hes off his ead, i dont think he has one, the book "these are the days" are a must read just full of drug, beer fuel notes but it works
They have to do another Long Way trip. Show that Ewan hasn't totally lost his marbles after all, given his leftie rants of late.
Is Charley alright? He's stammering, shuttering, half his face is less animated than the other... Please tell me he's had a few too many espressos, or he's just a bundle of nerves.
Jeez, I couldn't watch more than 10 minutes...
Charley: "they they they, if if if , he he he, but but but, you you you, and and and"
C'mon, spit it out. A 10 minute interview stretched out to God knows how long!
+Giff Gaff agreed
Giff Gaff go home.
Giff Gaff the fact you can't listen to someone who has s stutter shows a lot about your character
It might be related to his dyslexia. Not everyone speaks like you do. I loved the interview.
Did Charley go the long way round with the amount of ands and errrs must be getting paid by the minute 😁
Charlie you had a crew with you,,,,,didn't do it on a shoe string budget,,without assistance
He still DID IT
I watched 38 mins of this and Boorman stumbled on what should be a no brainer, having reflected on the whole interview the guy cant string a sentence in fact the guy when you do the reduction is just full of shit...
He was very nervous. I can't understand why. Just like no self confidence at all.
Bruce Stewart stuttering doesn't mean you're fill of shit
What was that Bruce...? You appear to be struggling to string a coherent sentence together there mate...?
So your saying because he struggles to express himself he is full of s__t? How can a guy be full of s__t for answering questions honestly? Everyone is entitled to an opinion my friend, but you know the saying about "a__holes and opinions". Good on you Charley, you can now distinguish yourself a bit like your father for changing the course/popularity of ADV biking as he did movie making.
It it it it it it it must must must must be be be a a a a a a a night...night...nightmare get...get...getting getting a a a a a a a te...te...text from from Charley Boor...Boor...Boorman

Sounds like he is a bit jealous and bitter.
