    Thanks for the vid! I’m going to be attending SCAD in the fall and it’s helped me with what I should expect. Turns out it’s a bit like my current high school in terms of workload and managing time! This helped me feel more at ease about my college decision

    It's sad that I was forced to drop out scad before I even start it because I have no additional aid and if my parents helped on the schools expenses, this will destroy their monthly salary

      @@lovely1190 I got a scholarship from SCAD for my portfolio and high school academic standing, which helped a lot. I don't have the exact numbers for those offhand. Everyone's financial situation is different, so I can't really give the best advice in regard to that.

    Currently in my third quarter as a Sophomore and I am trying so hard to just get through the rest of my schooling here. I learn so much but the pacing of the quarters and lack of breaks (I work through the summers, I don’t want to be here any longer than I have to) is soooo tiring and draining. I get burnt out so badly and so easily

    • @BalbertAnimation
      @BalbertAnimation  3 місяці тому +1

      Summer quarters are no joke. SCAD definitely has that effect on people. I know it does for me sometimes. I encourage you to consider doing a part-time quarter or two since you're already getting ahead. I've been a part-time student for the past year and a half and my level of stress, anxiety, and burnout has decreased noticeably. That's not to say it's easier, but it's been great for my mental health.
      Plus, with my final year coming to a close, I've had more time for capstone and job hunting (which is a whole beast in itself on top of my regular classes).
      I'm rooting for you, though! Please take care of yourself :)

    I would have gone but I had lots of personal problems in school so my grades was falling not cause I didn’t like school cause my health was really bad and really affect my grades the only year I got my self together was senior which is a bad timing but I’m sure it’s way over my payment cause my parents ain’t born here to I won’t have money from the government to help me so it really bring me down so if i could have the money I would I love art I been drawing for so long I learn many skills like airbrush and etc but gl to everyone that’s going to scad if you feel like dropping cause theirs a lot of people dropping out in first year just remember the money you spend if u didn’t spend a penny than that’s amazing you for you guys!:)

    Ik this is like 6 months late but I’m gonna be applying to SCAD next year and am SO nervous. It’s not like I’m unlikely to be accepted because I have really good grades and am taking Ap classes, I’ll even be doing AP art next year which should give me plenty for my portfolio and lots of drawing practice. It’s my dream job to be an animator (even with all the downsides of back pain and possible hand arthritis lmao) and SCAD is the only school I really have a chance at so i really hope I can get in when the time comes! These videos are really helping me! I have good time management and can work hard when it comes to being motivated for school so seeing all that pay off in the end will be so rewarding, if I get accepted that is :))

    • @BalbertAnimation
      @BalbertAnimation  Рік тому +5

      I believe in you! I literally did the same thing as you did. AP Art really helped prepare me for my classes here. Honestly, good grades are the biggest thing. You don’t have to be an amazing artist to get into SCAD, but being a hard worker matters more, which is a trait you already have! You’re doing great, so keep it up!

  • @manghostee

    I’m so glad to hear that you’re getting some good about it. I committed to SCAD a couple months ago, I’ll be a freshman there next fall. I even got some scholarship money for grades and achievements so I decided I’d go. The hate the school gets started to really freak me out, but your perspective really helped me, even if it wasn’t 100% positive. I don’t think any school has its students feeling 100% positive about it. I’m glad to know there’s at least some good in it, and all the good things I heard about it that made me apply in the first place weren’t entirely fabricated by their marketing team.

    • @BalbertAnimation
      @BalbertAnimation  5 місяців тому +2

      Congrats! I'm excited for your first year. SCAD is definitely good at keeping their PR positive, but don't be fooled. It's just as flawed as any other institution. But it's a great place to learn and grow if you're open to growing and learning. Best of luck to you!

    I got accepted but i’m second guessing animation as a whole… I am going for MFA in computer animation, and hopefully something in art business as well but is what I get out of my career going to be worth the stress and near 50k a year? From what I see I won’t be earning anywhere near that amount, and I was secondly thinking of persuing law

    • @BalbertAnimation
      @BalbertAnimation  Рік тому +1

      I don't know if this is of any help, but I know SCAD offers scholarships that you could look into. If SCAD is good at anything, it's giving you the resources to get you that first job. On the other hand, I do know someone who graduated from SCAD with a BFA in Dramatic Writing and is now in law school, so that's also totally possible too!

    hi i'm really hoping to attend scad this fall, its literally been my dream since 8th grade, but my biggest concern is the cost. I was just wodnering if maybe you had any more insight on how to afford attending scad and if you think its worth the very likely debt. thank you so much, your video really helped!

    • @BalbertAnimation
      @BalbertAnimation  Рік тому +8

      Hi! It’s hard to say definitively if SCAD is worth the cost, since everyone’s financial situation is different. But SCAD offers multiple scholarships you can look into. Some are academic-related and you also can get a scholarship based on your portfolio if you choose to submit one.
      In my honest opinion, I don’t think SCAD is worth destroying yourself financially to attend. It’s a great school and the resources they give you are so helpful for getting a job in whatever industry you’re interested in. Again, I can’t say that definitively because everyone’s in a different place financially. Hopefully that’s helpful!

    to anyone that has done the IB program: generally, what is art college workload compared to IB? specifically SCAD (illustration/storyboarding major for beginners)?

    • @BalbertAnimation
      @BalbertAnimation  9 місяців тому +2

      Great question. While I did not take the IB program (the most I ever did was AP -- I took like...8 AP classes in high school), I do know folks who went through the IB program and found the SCAD workload easier in comparison. If you have the work ethic and time management to do any sort of highly accelerated high school course, then SCAD shouldn't be an issue for you (generally, of course -- you might have some odd bumps in the road here and there).

    • @zoey398

      @@BalbertAnimation okay thank you so much! i found one person who asked the same thing on a reddit post but it had no replies and the same question with college in general had very mixed replies. i'd imagine it could still differ between what your IB pathway was but most still do nearly the exact same things (especially in any of the arts related pathways) so i'd imagine it'd be similar. thank you so much seriously

    How is the diversity at SCAD? Is there much of an Asian Pacific Islander population? Also what the estimate of students for the BFA Animation program. Thank you!

    • @BalbertAnimation
      @BalbertAnimation  3 місяці тому +1

      It's surprisingly diverse! I'm actually in the SCAD Filipino Club (not super active but I'm in the Discord server lol), so I wouldn't be surprised if there were a wider AAPI community at SCAD.
      The animation department makes up approx. 11% of the student population. We're the second largest department in the school (we just got dethroned from #1 by Illustration). So that's a LOT of people, but I've found that after 4 years, you get to know all your colleagues pretty well. It's a small world since everyone kinda knows each other in some way.

    Is scad super comparative I am on the fence between SCAD and MassArt and trying to figure it out. From what I have heard Mass is super comparative but is SCAD comparative or more cooperativ?

    • @BalbertAnimation
      @BalbertAnimation  3 місяці тому

      In my experience, I've seen a mix of both. Some professors encourage a collaborative environment, and I've found a true camaraderie with some of my classmates. Other professors are the exact opposite, and it's genuinely disappointing. My best advice is that collaboration versus competition starts with you and your mindset going into situations.
      Whether you go to MassArt or SCAD, you'll meet people who really want to collaborate with you and some who just want to bolster their own egos. Always come from a place of generosity and collaboration; if you meet anyone who doesn't vibe like that, find better people (which is easier than you'd think, provided you maintain your own value of collaboration).
