@@yasminal The game gets little to no coverage throughout the regular season of the a-league. It's a direct competitor to the likes of the AFL and Rugbue League. The local media is saturated with the two main macho, bash, crash sports. It's a culture the media is driving, maintaining!
No it's not. A-League is basement tier crappola. It's also the end of a very long season for Newcastle that involved champions league for the first time in a long time, players need rest. The off-season is hugely important for development and results should never be looked at in any way beyond the form of individual players. It's a chance for fringe and youth squad players to make an impression; either for their continuation at the club, or more likely to be loaned or sold on to other clubs.
This isn't Burnley where every player goes on holiday for 4 months, half of Newcastle will be in the European finals, the other half have already been called up for international friendlies and tournaments throughout the year. Doesn't matter how money you earn, sometimes you just need to go sit on a beach and chill.

2x 21yo's and 2x 22yo's got half our goals, not to mention nice assists from our 18yo. No player availability from our current top 2 clubs, and only 3 training sessions for a group that haven't played together before. Hilarious the excuses some of you Newcastle fans make for what was an abysmal and utterly disrespectful showing by your team, no matter the age or reasoning you try to hide behind. There’s a huge difference between a u21s player and a first team player who’s 21. We didn’t field the likes of Lewis Miley, Anthony Gordon, Elliott Anderson, Lewis Hall etc who are all around or younger than that age but play regularly in the premier league.
Some of the players fielded are being released next month and and most won’t make it as footballers.

Calling it a “young team” isn’t meant to be an exclusive reference to their age, but rather their status as reserves lmao. The NUFC keeper is 32 yrs old. Let me help you understand:
- Sven Botman: 24 yrs old
- Alexander Isak: 24 yrs old
- Anthony Gordon: 23 yrs old
- Tino Livramento: 21 yrs old
- Elliot Anderson: 21 yrs old
- Lewis Hall: 19 yrs old
- Lewis Miley: 18 yrs old
Note how none of these players are apart of the “youth team”. Thats because they’re part of the first team, and not reserves. That is not an excuse. You are holding a 2nd division reserve youth team to the same standard as a team competing in Europe.

You must have a very low opinion of the best A League senior pros if you expected them to be properly tested by a squad of literal children with little to none competitive experience. Obviously they're good young players, but good relative to youth level.

Newcastle should refund the tickets of our fans that paid to watch that, that was pure robbery of peoples hard earned cash. Fair play to the All Stars, at least they took it seriously.
Judging on their comments about the A-league pedigree (league-1, championship level), before the match, a lot of people here would surely tip the young Newcastle to beat the All-stars. Then they twisted their comments after the match (men team played kid team, blah, blah).
Might be a good lesson to these big clubs not to take the A-league so lightly. A thrashing like that can't be good for their young players.
Some of this defending is the stuff of nightmares.

Tbh i think its EXTREMLY disrespectful on eddie howes part that he put out a c team. people pay good money to come watch a team that made the ucl this season and they put up that result. And dont even start with the there only u21 of course they would be beat by this team, we were playing lots of youngsters too like irankunda who set up 2 goals in 1 half and is only 18 y/o. And the A leugue debatubly put out a b team of there own. Due to the grand final players like zidedine machach, jake brimmer, bruno fornaroli, rodrick miranda, damian da silva, paul izzo, jacob farrell and alou kuol + more would have been a shoe in for this team. a team of a league all stars this season could come 16-10 in the prem.
PS: its not like newcastle didnt have experienced players at the game, Trippier and hall were on the bench and wilson, burn and richie were not even picked. And its not like 2 or 3 players causes a 9+ goal difference in a game.

If the aim was PR and growing the fanbase down under, I just don't understand sending the first/reserve team home and fielding the kid's team. Totally disrespectful to their hosts, and looks like they took it personally. Doubt we've gained any fans. Fringe players like Dummett, Ritchie, Krafth should have stayed behind and helped the kid's team.

1. Underestimated the quality of the A League players (as was highlighted by his young captain who had 'Hoped to win in normal time and not go to penalties but was for another one tonight" 2. Exposed his young players to humiliation. 3. Not planning to give his young players some experienced support he paid little respect to not only the A League but also his supporters who would have been embarrassed by the result..... As for those Aussie Euro-snobs who 'poo-poo' the A League it is about time you got behind the game here in Oz... as follower of the National League here and also frequent attender of UK games we have a good product here. Get to games to create the 'Euro style' ground atmosphere.

Yup, finished 22nd in the under 21 Premier League. The under 18s is the far more relevant youth competition because that is where you might see some potential future stars. If you're not in the first team squad or out on loan by the the time you're 20 or 21, you're not likely to make it.

They are crap and it is a disgrace that they were sent out to represent the club in an overseas exhibition game.
