enormous thank you to all of the mountain operations crews - lift attendants, ski patrol, ticket office, parking etc etc etc - this was a gnarly storm to say the least and no easy feat to get the mountain open safely for all of us to enjoy.
Great perspective on how different snow conditions can be depending on the weather system and how the snow falls. I hope you’re feeling better by now Lucas. Safe travels
been watching your videos for a few years and idk if its in my head but it seems like your skiing has gotten so much better in the tighter and steeper terrain. attacking the shit out of those trees with confidence
Absolutely love to see the channel growing man, been here since 2K subscribers! I live in NH but I'm heading out to Steamboat and Arapahoe Basin in a few weeks, absolutely cannot wait 🤙🏻 your vids are getting me hyped to shred some moutain west pow
Nice job Lucas - blessed to have started skiing Park City in 1981 when I was a kid, (now I ski there with my adult kids)!. Scott's bowl was the first bowl I ever "hiked", not the biggest or the baddest but always a special place for me - so glad to see its open again. Must have really been some crazy winds to firm up all the snow like that? My wife I and were lucky enough to enjoy the snow that fell prior to the big storm. Skied Alta, Snowbird, Solitude and even Deer Valley - will be on Epic next year and will look for you at Park City when we return! BTW, anyone who is wondering, those tree lines are pretty steep! Camera does not do any justice to the lines he is crushing.
thank you! and yeah! winds were sustained around 110mph for the most part so the wind really took a toll but its all good! glad you got to ski it before hand!
Thank You Lucas . . . I have not had my first day yet , but sooner or Later I wiLL be at June Mountain with a great bunch of friends for at Least a week straight ! ! !
Get well man! I could hear yah sucking wind, it didn’t slow you down much “animal” cheers man. We finally got some cold and snow this week I’ve been skiing nonstop.
Last week staying at Snowbird, it was amazing waking up to avi bombs Wednesday to Saturday mornings at 6:00am. It sucked being stuck in our hotel during the interlodge until the avi danger was cleared, but it was cool being the first on the mountain when it opened at 9:00-9:30am. Also I don't think I saw the sun in Utah all last week which was a first for my visits.
i love the superchairs but my favorite chair in BRECK is the E Chair.. an old creaky slow 2 man chair.. it brings me back 25 years.. with that particular chair when i get to it it is in the shadows and i normally am looking back into the sun and I can see Peak 8 and it is amazing.. even though i am pretty sure they open it when Peak 9 is open, it tells me that Peak 10 is open and i love Peak 10.. Most of the hill is open at that time.. i have been hibernating.. this arctic blast sure got to me.. it did warm up but i am still hibernating.. i was going to go today but the snow was supposed to hit while i was there and i did not want to drive in it.. that and my energy is just way down.. i did have a cold/flu that lasted a month about a month ago.. sometime just got to ride it out.. as far as cold wind blown snow.. another aspect of it is if it is really cold then the snow gets grippy and it is easy to go over the handlebars..
Surfy looking pow. I had my deepest/least busy day of skiing Tuesday at Winter Park. The cars in the parking lot looked like some stuff out off LCC. Haha. Country club skiing with no way for anyone outside the county to come ski.
I was just in Utah for a week, best snow I skied was last Thursday at Snowbird. Alta was pretty wind packed on Saturday but the end of the day was great with some creamy turns as it was nuking the last few hours. Finished the trip at DV on Sunday and Monday, it was super dense, PNW type of snow. I did get first tracks down Lady Morgan Bowl which was super deep.
Great Video Lucas! I like it when you ski with your dad! Man Snowbird/Alta mad snow!!! Get better Dude, lor of that Upper respiratory crap going down. Oh conditions at Mohawk Mt. Ct. (Don't laugh) Are fantastic. Mom fell Yesterday (92) I'm going to the ER Ambulance just left. If I wasn't taking care of mom I'd would have been out west already. So I ski close to home when mom is having a good day or when professional care giver comes once a week. Wendsday was my day to ski.....so I'm getting my fix thru your videos! Ski on ...
Broke my leg on wed Jan 10 at bottom of Empire 😢 caught something and a slow twist fall Boot too fracture. DV patrol was great as was PC hospital. Saw you preseason at Fieldhouse so I was in great shape too Sucks balls but had 40 good years with no major injury Stay Safe Everyone
Almost flew out from Boston on Thursday. My cousin is on Ski Patrol at PC and said not to bother. Nothing would be open. He was right. Sad to see the snow quality wasn’t the best but like you said it builds the base. Years ago me and a friend flew out to Jackson Hole after a massive storm expecting the best few days on snow of our lives. Arrived to find just mediocre snow quality at best. Wind was the factor. I’ll wait until the next one.
I totally agree, i was up doing laps on mckonkeys and pioneer this weekend and it was pretty difficult to ski and it was just meh, but sweet video still!
@@LucasCatania17 ha yes that’s me and you did get me at the end…in addition to screwing up the start (having to go around you and 4 others at the drop) i also made a rookie mistake at the end going low on the tree cluster just in front of the maze which zapped some speed - great work i LOVE those races!!! And we love your channel - keep it up!!!
Deer valley got nuked hard for 3 hours today , in that three hours it snowed a foot at snow park and closer to 2 ft. up at Empire , if they record any less they are being modest , as you know still snowing , not as hard but…. Hope you are feeling better Lucas.
The difference in perspective between Utah shredders and east coast skiers is hilarious. “Not a very good storm for skiing/riding”. On the east coast, ANY storm with snow is great for skiing and riding lol
So you're uploading at 24 fps but your gopro max stuff still looks nice and smooth. Are you shooting in 30 and just sampling down to 24 or are you actually shooting on the MAX in 24?
Endemic Sound account run out?😂. Very interesting how sound or the lack there of can really change the mood of a video. Though with the lack of music in this one, some nuance came out. Like the end of the Rhino run. I liked how it sounded like you were the only one on the mountain only to open up to the cacophony of people chattering, the music, and the mechanical sounds at the base of the lift. I also liked hearing you sing a bit... I will say , complaining about the snow quality is falling on deaf ears out east though...😮
How you pick and get so lucky on good ski days is very impressive. It like you have done this before lmao Yesterday blue bird day at the bird . Horrible conditions several injuries . Only a couple lifts on front side packed with long lines . Today 3 front side runs . First 2 legit . 3rd run was almost the entire mountains last run . You could not see a thing. I love your videos but I feel like it’s setting the expectations too high for me at the bird. A guy at the bar said it best . When it’s good it’s the best when it’s not it’s horrible . Just the luck of the draw. This time I came for 2 weeks vs 1 week. It is what it is . Wish I lived here then it would not matter. Whats the second best ski area close to salt lake that is more reliable because they don’t get the crazy snow and avalanche mitigation etc ?? I need a second option for my sanity lol
After talking to some guys who work at the bird they said since I am flying in and just once per year that I need to fly in middle of February vs the end of January. Better snow and less closure potential

Yep, all fair enough for the most part. I bet the other skier considered it close though, you wouldn’t have been impressed if things were reversed. You can’t always say you stop/slow at the exact correct spot with consideration for others. They may have been not in the best spot but it wasn’t a good look in the video.
