Thanks so much for bringing this back! Bruces's matches wth Godedzhishvili were the biggest wrestling super fights that I remember as a kid. I believe he was actually Georgian, which none of us even knew about before the end of the Cold War. Bruce is a New Jersey hero for sure.
I watched it in Soviet Georgia, back in 1988, and I was pleasantly surprised in Tokyo Olympics when I saw heavyweight freestyle final, Petriashvili vs Steveson, yet another final of Georgian and American wrestler. Regrettably though, I live in NY, and NBC did not give wrestling enough prime time, hardly any time at all... I guess they think public is more interested in reality TV shows, or some bs like that
When i was in high school i went Bruce's wrestling camp in edinboro Pa im from Baltimore never knew how big Pa was until that ride it took like 9 hours but bruce was a awesome guy i had so many memories from thouse times i actually think the camp was mainly for heavyweights witch i was not i wrestled varsity all 4 years with no child hood experience i just really took to it i wrestled 103 in 9th 112 in 10th 125 in 11th and 135 in 12th.My best friend was the heavyweight all 4 years and thats how i ended up going to a heavyweight wrestling camp every summer but i was used to wrestling heavyweights cause me and my boy would always be wrestling each other alot of the heavyweights at the camp couldnt beleive they were getting beat by someone my size It def got me ready tho i went into the Navy at 18 and was a walk on for the Navy team witch is freestyle i had never wrestled freestyle before that and still took the guy that was actually recruited to wrestles spot at 152 so lets just say i learned freestyle very fast i ended up wrestling for Navy for 2 years before I had to go to sea on my destroyer and do the job i went to school for witch was gunnersmate now my 12 year old daughter wrestles shes been wrestling 4 years now and is undefeated she won states for the 1st time this past year she wasnt old enough prior and my son is in his second year hopefully by the time he can wrestle states he can be a state champ too i was never a state champ but I beat the state champ and got a award for underdog match of the year 😂 i sure do miss those days being 37 now theres not much wrestling i can do except teaching my kids stuff and helping coach there team.awesome videos tho bring back so many awesome memories
