For the buildings, you need employees to get 100% or +100% efficiency. They often do also require well-educated people which is also an important factor.
Test on this ware made on even pre launch. It only works with Wind becuse of the upkeep. The others cant make a profit deliberatly. The upkeep + resource requirement is allways more then export price - thats by design. With wind the upkeep is just small enaugh to be little profitable and there is no resource costs for Watter, coal , gas ext. Also , it only works if you dont have people otherwise you have to spam the map with them to me a profit. The idea of it is to reduce the upkeep cost by selling the extra production , instead of constantly going back and forth with the bugget to increase/decrease production.
I actually did this by accident,I built a gas power plant in a pretty small city and adjusted the budget and service fee that I was making 14K a month.
I made a couple rivers deeper and wider, then added a Hydroelectric Dam to each river. 1 Dam makes 840Mw and the other makes 920Mw. I export that to 4 cities. Monthly profit off electricity is $2.7 million with only $200k upkeep. If the map has good flow of water, the hydro dam definitely has the best Megawatt to dollar ratio. *Also when exporting, you can only export around 400-500Mw per external point, it varies. The more export points you have the more you can export. Same with water. I didn't know this is in the beginning. I was stuck at 1 million service trade for electric. I experimented a little by connecting to all 4 sides and instantly my export shot up to almost 3 million with just the 2 Dams.
it seems to be almost impossible to make profit in this game it seems like every feature of this game is totally BUGGED out faulty junk Feels like a total waste of time and real money to play this game without unlimited money
What are you talking about, it's actually the other way around, whatever you do. You almost can not mess things up. Only if you take a huge loan, and build a lot of unnecessary buildings, then you might get some money issues
I went with solar farms. I was never in the green but when the sun came out I was making a little over 1 million a season. I was exporting 400 mega watts of power. Now that I see transformers allow you to do more, I am going to have to drop down enough to cover the extra. I am currently making 1,300 ish mega watts. I am using 200 lol.
LOL noob! Build a coal power plant (basic example) 70k/month becomes 10k/month if you can mine at least 20t of coal per month to feed your powerplant. 70k cost = 10k maintenance 60k coal costs from imports. So mine your own coal then! Geothermal is also profitable.
You needed employees in that nuclear plant...your efficiency was at 10%...it said efficiency -90% due to lack of workers...got to redo this episode
Nuclear needs staff you had 10% not 100% output.. Good staff makes a difference
In my Big City 380K population, Nuclear Powered + 4-5 incinerators I'm Making 200K - 1.2 Million on Electric on Export.. Soooo..
You can make a dam & export with profit
No one should self things for less than they make so not realistic.
It's beneficial when you use the nuclear power plant for powering your city and exporting the excess(only for massive cities)

thats not true I use nuclear power plant and 5 solar panels and Im making profits 2 million+ without adjusting anything

If hydroelectric works like CS1, I think that would work if you have enough of a water source to place it on.
The map with the snaking river might work for that. I'm playing that one now but I'm afraid to try it. Ehhh, maybe I'll save-as and see how it goes.
