Hahbi 'Ru RPFN

It was with great sadness that I learned that John Compton, the heart and soul of the dance troupe known as Hahbi 'Ru, passed from this life on October 14, 2012. I never missed their performances at Faire and will miss them even more now. Thankfully I have this recording of them from back in the day so their memory will never fade from the Earth.
This video was taken at the old Northern California Renaissance Pleasure Faire, Black Point Forest, Novato, California, circa 1989. The Faire closed in 1998. This and all related clips are my personal home movies presented here to preserve the memories of that irreplaceable time and to honor the contributions of the countless thousands who participated in it over the years.

I danced with Hahbi 'Ru from 1999-2012. Unfortunately, I never danced with them while they performed at the magical Blackpoint location, but I saw them there in 1997 for the first time and said to myself, "THIS is true belly dance!!" Suddenly the dance form made sense. I was so fortunate to be part of this piece of belly dance history!

I saw them at Black Point during the 90s and could’ve been in the same crowd as you. Habhi Ru was superb and I always looked forward to seeing each time the ren faire time came around. I was captivated by the talented dancing and music, the repartee with the audience, and spectacular costumes. You made a great choice - what fun! Kudos!
And Blackpoint was perfect wasn’t it? I was so bummed when the forest location was sold for condos.

This place was absolutely magical. And they were so fun and amazing to watch! I loved everything about them. The costumes, the dane, the music, the environment!! Wish I could relive just one moment of seeing them perform there. Or better, an entire day of being there.

I would go everyday to see Hahbi 'Ru at Faire never got tired of it and haven't seen one this good since How I miss this and Blackpoint it felt like home.
