Couldn't have said it better myself. To me, a trail runner's Rich Roll - extremely gifted in the long form interview/discussion. Great catch, getting Nick Bare on! Keep it up!

I was there at Foresthill and took a short video of Sally running and didnt realize Nick Bare was the pacer. I was also a pacer but started at Michigan Bluff. Cool stuff

Legitimately world class interviewing Finn. Not just great research like Sean Evans and Nardwar, but clearly a knack and desire to connect with people, think critically on the fly, and explore topics that we’d otherwise never get to. Love all of the content here and at CP. You’re going to be the sport’s voice for years to come. Thanks for all you do ✊🏼

This was potentially my favorite interview involving Nick. The variety of questions and experience that Finn brings to the table really allows them to work off each other and showcase how remarkable they both are

I only found Nick through Cam Hanes. I like to bow hunt, Cam has his crowd and brought Nick in because of his running. Nick had on Sally, and now you have Nick on and I for the first time ever followed Western States. We all have more in common than we know, and I enjoyed your interview.

Best interview of the week. My first exposure to Nick was his interview with Sally. May 2022. I was horizontal for 10 days, recovering from R2R2R and Covid. That conversation kept me going. Love that you had him on Finn. Thank you!

Glad to see the trail community embracing people like Nick. As a former collegiate football player who still lifts heavy and competes in ultras in CO I know the community can be standoffish to folks who don’t fit the mold of the typical distance runner.

As a non traditional (heavy) trail runner also in Colorado, it's been my experience that the community in general is very welcoming. Maybe because I'm usually racing just to not be DFL, but that's my favorite thing about the community

Great interview! The growth of ultra running has been significant - look at the number of 100’s now compared to 20 years ago. I also think that our sport embraces variety in events: fkt’s, fat ass events, last man standing, variety of ultra distances, and more. What makes one event shine brighter is the community involvement ( aid station volunteers) and that comes with race directors being connected to their community. Ultimately it’s up to us to create our own experience and decide if we enjoyed it or not: Talking with other runners or enjoying your solitude.

    • @runsingletrack

Please no more "making ultrarunning cooler". When it comes to being "cool", there will never be any brand involvement or memorable moment catering that can outdo 2 old ladies that volunteered at a town hall meeting, serving powdered gatorade and cut up kudo bars.

To your point about what’s missing - the sport is a majority white upper middle class activity and it brings along the social mores and attitudes of that group. I think if the sport is serious about growing, it’ll have to be able to adjust to cater for a variety of people, backgrounds, and so on.

Not really. It's substantially grown BC of Goggins over the last several years. All this race, color, background BS is what henders society. Those who do, do regardless of skin of all that shit.

Good interview. However, Mike Tyson has a better shot at being Jim Walmsley in a race than this man has at being natural and not on gear. Hats off to him for bringing people in but it doesn’t seem right.
