This was before Morph got adapted to the comics. Back in the 90's he was just an OC, loosely based on a body double of Professor X, named Changeling and a D-List villain actually named Morph. He was just meant to be a red shirt to die in the pilot as a way to show how high stakes the story was going to be. Morph got popular and they brought him back for season 2 and made him canon in the comics, one character in Age of the Apocalypse and a multiverse version of himself in the time traveling EXiles. Around this time Morph got a massive buff to their powers and a more fleshed out backstory.
I really wish we'd see Morph have a scene with Mystique and she's like "Wait you can copy their abilities, my stuff's just cosmetic. That's so unfair!"

The upgrade for Morph of being a combination of Mystique and someone like Hope Summers is insane. I'd love to know just how well Morph can copy someone's abilities. Like, they can mimic the musculature that makes Quicksilver so fast, but are they AS fast as him?
He can copy abilities if they come from parts of the body, like Hulk's stamina, Quick Silver's speed, or the ability to fly with angel wings. However, he can't copy abilities that come from psychic, energy blast, or magic cmiiw
According to the comic book version this Morph is based on, the more they know about the subject they're mimicking, the more they can emulate. Like hyper metabolizing the unstable molecules in their body to emulate Quicksilver's super speed, condensing them to emulate Colossus' invulnerability, or generate any martial weaponry like claws and swords from their body. Morph can't emulate super strength unless they increase their mass into someone that has super strength and on the reverse side, needs to turn into someone thin and nimble to emulate super agility. None of the forms are ever as good as the original though.
Morph is one of the most powerful characters in the show. The only their major weaknesses is their mind. Thanks to sinister their more vulnerable to psychic attacks.
Morph needed more screen time in the og, and got in 97'. I don't like how they (showrunners) turned their black hair in og to brown; slimmed their muscles and much less of their snickering laugh, and widen the yellow on Morph's outfit in 97'. I do hope Morph shows more, like 50-50, of their human face us 90's kids r used to, next season.

To be fair they died in their first appearance and didn't come back for a really long time. I get why you didn't remember Morph. And even when Marvel added Morph in the comics the writers almost never used them.
I really do wish there were scenes where the characters talk about or exhibit the limits of their powers. Something as simple as Morph copying Wolverine's claws but being unable to cut down a door or wall that Wolverine proceeds to effortlessly obliterate, showing that his abilities are just surface level imitations that are good in a quick scrap but nowhere near as strong as the original.
