- People across the country are posting videos of themselves smoking marijuana and getting behind the wheel. Every state has a legal limit on how much alcohol you can drink and drive. However, that’s not the case in relation to marijuana. Some states do, while other states don’t. Mary and Craig Kazmark say their daughter would still be alive if not for her boyfriend, Josh Daugherty. He tested positive for marijuana the night he swerved into oncoming traffic, crashing their car at 70 miles per hour. Inside Edition’s Lisa Guerrero has more.

Yeah its the legal part that gets ya,. I saw a guy easily 5x over the legal limit just cruising along minding his own business when some teenage girls from out of town, lost in a rental car made a left in front of dude (without yielding) on a green light.
Guys wife shows up talking about shes done, & Im like a sober person would've colided with them too it was soo stupid what them gals did🤣. Police just wrote up the accident, both cars totalled & whole scene was cleaned up in like 10 minutes. They swept road n everything in 10 mins. Like they didnt even care the guy was trashed😂

@@bloodlove93 they don't. They assume if you have high numbers then you were high recently. When in reality a high THC count could just mean they take dabs in the evening. Maybe one day we will have a real time reading like BAC%; but for now it's a big gray area.

Lol, some people literally need medical cannabis to function, saying no one should ever drive 'high' is ridiculous. Some folks actually DO drive better 'high', if it's taken therapeutically. Like with any other medication, you should see how it effects you before driving, but simply using it at all shouldn't preclude one from driving. And laws that set limits on how much thc is in your system is absurd, since folks that need to take it medically have such a high tolerance and need to take so much more than the general population to feel even a slight effect.

The problem with weed is the tolerance. I can take a dab and function just fine because I smoke a lot. However, when I had stopped smoking for a few years, my tolerance dropped and when I did start smoking I couldn't function at all lmfao. It took smoking for months to build that back up again. If you can't handle it, don't get behind the wheel and don't do it all with others in the car.
The problem is that you can’t tell how high someone is by looking at metabolites in the body, they do not indicate the current state of inebriation

Been driving high almost every day for over 15 years now and never once had an issue because of it. Every accident ive been in was due to me being too sober & impatient. Take a rip and drive safe 👍

My girlfirend a few years ago crashed and flipped her car 4 times while smoking. The high was coming down and she fell asleep. It's not as dangerous as drinking & driving but still a risk.

Honestly it depends on how often u smoke. Frequent users tend to be affected differently than the occasional ones. I have been high for 20 years and drive better than most sober people. It makes me hyper aware and the slight paranoia is a benefit while driving.

I've been driving since 94 an pass both my motorcycle and driving test while high.
Never hit 1 car or so much as scratched a wheel! Some folks just can't drive or smoke weed.

I pulled up to a DUI checkpoint while hotboxing the car with a buddy, rolled down the windows and smoke billowed out into the troopers face, all his trooper buddies behind him started laughing their ass off. They were just looking for alcohol. Asked us if we had any alcohol, we said no. He told us to be safe and have a good night as he chuckled and waved us goodbye

For all you people that have clearly only smoked a joint in college and had a bad experience: A hit or two of a joint is like a small cup of coffee to experienced smokers. Except coffee is a stimulant and weed is a depressant, so that’s why smokers tend to have a coffee while smoking to balance it out. Straight up, you shouldn’t be smoking and driving if you don’t have the tolerance. Also not everyone takes weed the same. Some people have a higher functioning mind, others fall asleep behind the wheel. As for edibles, if you take an insanely high dosage, you might as well be drunk. A micro dosed portion should be fine. In conclusion, if you’re a college kid trying to show of to your friends that you can smoke and drive with only a couple months of smoking, that’s a high risk you’re putting yourself and others at. If you’re someone who smokes daily and highly functional with it, smoking tends to make you an alert and cautious driver, and helps you through the day of being surrounded by morons who don’t know what a turn signal is, or what the far left lane is for… just my two cents
I have nothing against weed or alcohol but do it responsibly. Intoxicants clearly hinder your motor skills. Why is being responsible not cool? It’s super cool to be responsible. Don’t hesitate to be the person to say that you don’t partake and drive and also call others out for doing so. Start a new trend. You’ll either get respect or you need to find new “friends”. Driving high is for some people but its not for everybody. It can be done consistently with no problem but thats if you built up the tolerance for smoking weed in general.

If that’s the case, you shouldn’t be able to smoke cigarettes and drive neither I remember driving one time and I took a hit of a Newport 100 and held it in a little too long and the high/lightheadedness impaired me for ten seconds. so if you’re gonna ban one ban everything.

It depends on the person. Like if its a person who smokes pot everyday, they should be able to function high. But if it's a person who only smokes a few times a year, you can't handle the high and you will be impaired. That's my opinion.

Been rolling blunts behind the wheel for 20 years. It's not for everyone and definitely not for amateurs. Thc stays in your system for 30 days, so it may not be the cause of such accidents. Other factors or intoxicants might be at play.

This is what makes testing so difficult.
After blowing through an ounce of hash rosin I won't test negative for well over a month without using. If I get pulled over and tested, even when I haven't used in days to weeks, will I get an OVI?
Meanwhile, the alcohol you poison yourself with will be out of your system in 72 hours.

@@MrJuvefrank I stupidly forgot about that way of testing. A cop that pulls you over will not have immediate access to that kind of test though. And because hair growth rates vary from person to person, this test can’t accurately determine when in the 90 days drugs were used.

Yes and no. If your weed has nothing extra in it, your reaction time is slightly delayed, but not enough to cause a meaningful change, and its nowhere near to the deblitating effects of alcohol. The real danger is that you never know what these dealers put on their street weed.

A lot of cases get dismissed because of this. Friend was driving drunk and high and only got charged with the drinking even though he was PLENTY (he tells me 60x) over the legal marijuana limit.
