    Hey, I got a set of cast iron heads. Will you weld them to a chain so can park my fishing boat? Just kidding I know they can be good, they take forever to port though. Great video again.

    Eye opener for me! Never would have guessed a TF head would do that. Thanks for doing all this.

    Eric why do you think the TF heads made more at lower rpm range? Can't be flow by the looks . You think combination of chambers or runner designs? Great information sir 👍😎💪

    Could that trail-off at the top of the Trick Flow heads’ curve be valve springs?

    Well I will say, the modern 96-00 Vortec big block 454’s only have 98cc size chambers with flat top pistons. That yields close to 9.5 to 1 compression. It’s hard to find a replacement bolt on head that yields the same CR. If you bolt a head on there with 110 cc chambers, even with the thinnest head gasket you’re lucky to get 8.5 to 1. I guess the only way around it is change pistons, but I was hoping to not pull through motor though.

      Edelbrock makes a 100cc version of its oval port 290 head. Part #60499. The problem is you can't put too big of a cam in with the stock flat top pistons. The valve reliefs aren't big enough.

    • @morganpowell2999
      @morganpowell2999 4 місяці тому

      @@ekitching yea, he mentioned that in the video, and he said they were terrible for air flow. I guess it’s gonna be one of those things where you gotta change a bunch of stuff just to change the heads

    on these aftermarket heads with raised exhaust ports, does that cause issues with off the shelf headers like Dougs/Hookers for a 2nd gen FBody?
    does it help with spark plug access as well?

    Hey eric, got a good tech question for ya, say you have a bbc head that has a runner size of 390cc's, however the port is raised .400.About how much volume do you think the raised runner is responsible for. In other words if the port were .400 lower how much volume would the port have? Im Trying to compare the flow numbers with some similar sized heads but its not apples to apples with port size bc of the raised runners. The head is a brodix bb5

    This is an excellent video. Basically the same engine is in my 79 Malibu with the AFR heads except the Perf RPM manifold. I have a couple degrees less on my cam. Gives me a great indication of what I may be making for power. I appreciate the time you invest. Thank you

    Out of all the heads. Does by chance. The trickflow have the most stood up SSR?

    I like the Trick Flow torque curve. May not be the fastest down the strip, for street use up to 6000rpm, i'll take them. Cool Stuff.

    • @Torquemonster440
      @Torquemonster440 4 місяці тому

      Only head that beats them on this list is the heads Eric ported by hand. Otherwise OOTB, the Trickflow's would definitely be fastest.

      It's definitely better for circle or road course, a flatter torque curve and linear power band is easier to modulate out of corners.

    The trickflow might have been due to slightly light valve springs or got into some spring resonance. It wasn't a normal looking nose over after peak.

    Nice testing and the bigger port you know people always say you loose low end torque well this test proved them wrong the bigger port on the trickflow over afr and other won low end torque. Even though promaxx was the biggest but won as well.

      TFS heads are definitely impressive, especially since they're not CNC. Take this with a grain of salt, ported TFS280 with 2.25" intakes on a 11.2:1 496 have made 721 bhp @ 6000 and 711 lb-ft @ 4500. The 236/240 cam had ~106 LSA and 0.690"/.650" lift.

    • @WeingartnerRacing
      @WeingartnerRacing  4 місяці тому +5

      It depends on how much the customer wants to pay. It does cost extra to check them out. I do flow every head I sell though. So you do get an actual flow sheet for the heads you bought.
