I had almost the same thought as Michael when he was commenting about not being able to change his jump in mid-air. "Hey, look at that - the game got jumping physics right (minus the double-jumping part, of course)."

This game is so hard. A little bit of practice, like anything, it gets easier. You can tell the designers often have an expected route in mind on every stage.
Played an event in a game recently and I remember someone saying they were having a bit of PTSD from it because it reminded them of this game...and I can see why; everything Michael said about how "when you beat it, you have to start from the beginning again" checks out. Love things in games that are a clear homage to another game.
this my first let's play video, been following RT and AH content alot past month or so, really enjoyed this one and didn't expect to sit through the whole 30mins, hope you make a part 2
When I saw you guys facing the first boss, I was hoping you would make a remark saying that you where facing off against Lindsay at the end of the first level, my bro chuckled and smiled when I pointed that out. Lol 😆 Just to help you guys out, here’s a quick tip on the hidden chests laying around the map, or really, what spawns out of it every time you find a chest. •First chest (if you are wearing steel armor) will spawn a random weapon. •Second chest (if you are wearing the steel armor) will spawn the Bronze Armor. •Third Chest (if wearing the Bronze Armor) will spawn the Golden Armor. •Forth Chest (if still wearing the gold armor) will either spawn the Sun Shield (takes two hits unlike the moon shield), or the War Goddess Amulet (which is needed to face the final boss). If armorless, it will either spawn a weapon, or the evil magician, next as you see, will spawn the Steel Armor, and the cycle continues. Side note, depending on which armor you wear, the magician will transform you into a ton of things, baby is what you turn into if you are armorless. 😂
Not really. It's hard cause its controls suck and spams enemies for the sake of sucking your quarters at the arcade like a lot of games from back then.
@@LazzyVamples Its predecessor was originally for the Arcade, so they kept the same basic design philosophy of this game series... which is to be unfairly difficult.
@@GoldenSun5631 There are PLENTY of other examples of difficult games that were never on arcades, though. A lot of games were difficult simply because developers were still figuring out game design at the time. another contributing factor was that games from this time actually weren't that long and they lengthened it artificially by making them difficult.
Legitimately a great video hope this gets enough views to warrant a part 2and hopefully enough to spark a cool 2 man retro game series. Could be play pals only could extend to the whole office doing a 2 man retro play could be cool.
The nostalgia this was my favorite game back in the day, and in highschool back in 2004 my buddy had a super nintendo still and after school we went to his house and took turns playing this for like 4 hours straight made it to the end boss and ran out of continues. But it didnt matter anyway because thats only thr halfway point.
The instant Gavin said AVGN I knew he was going to say get he throwing dagger, and yup right away he does lol When Michael says 'You remember more than I do' Gavin's uncomfortable face and neck scratch says it all ^_^
Their commitment to not using the rewind feature or abusing save states is admirable because if that were me I’d probably be using them every 10 seconds seeing as that’s how often I’d end up dying
My brother beat this game back in the day.... truly beat it... like beat it the second time from the beginning beat it.... the only reason I believe him is because i was there to watch it in the flesh.
The chests will spawn in only when the knight is in a couple of certain frames. If you find each chest, they should start spawning armor and shields. If you miss a chest and open the next one, it'll be the magician man and the following chest will be starting over with a weapon.
Im playing this again currently after beating the nes one, luckily playing the prinny games on psp have kept me used to the weird double jump after not playing for ages.
I do think this channel needs videos like this every once in a while. They get in a bit of a pattern with the videos that do the best, and they do the best for a reason. Just we can't hit a point where they play 7 games a week and we always know which day of the week it is by the same 7 games. Just I want it to be how most gamers play games. You have comfort games that you know you're going to play, and other games that you'll try out every once in a while. I do think this channel follows that formula. Just I think it's important to say that I enjoy them trying new things. Sure I may like certain regular videos more, but you never know when you'll find a gem.

For anyone wondering, the Speed run world record of this game, on normal difficulty is 32:29, which is shorter than this whole video.
Malcome is a beast! I watch Teleo1 run this game constantly. It makes me forget how hard it is!
Quick reminder in the speed run they go through all the stages twice. Its impressive for sure.

Yeah any side scrolling games like that would be fun.
