- The 4th album by the legendary UK band the Stranglers.
This video breaks down the inspiration for this amazing album.
Content features stories and antidotes from bass player JJ Burnels interview with stranglers.co.uk.
Really enjoyed this, the Stranglers made three absolute classic albums.
Rattus Norvegicus, Black and White, and The Raven. The rest are great albums. The band should be in the Rock and roll hall of fame, they are amazing.
Absolutely Gary cheers
A great review of a classic album which is now 45 years old but still relevant to this day. Never get tired of listening to this album.
Thanks it's a beauty alright
This was released in September 1979 and l was in Majorca on holiday and was worried that when l got back, all the ltd edition 3d covers would be sold out. Luckily they were not and l got one after school when l got back. Loved the album, still do and 2 years ago l bought another 3d cover on ebay and it hangs on the wall behind my TV. Great days, my first band and that feeling never leaves you, about 4 hours ago, another Stranglers dvd dropped through my letterbox.
That's awesome a true passionate fan thanks for sharing
The Viking Longship on the LP cover is at Pegwell Bay in Kent and can be visited and or viewed on google maps.
That's cool Brian will look it up
Awesome thanks for watching
This would have gone to number 1 in the uk charts, however due to a clerical error at the chart compiler credited a lot of sales incorrectly to regatta de blanc by the police. This was the first album they produced themselves after Martin Rushent walked out after hearing meninblack. Finally their managers recommended to JJ and Hugh to break up the band and start again under a new name with only Hugh and JJ. Of course they told them to go to hell and they would be continuing. Dai and Derek (the managers) then had a song written about them which went on the b side of duchess called fools rush out. Dai and Derek belief was that commercially the band had reached their peak and should drop dave and Jet. Hugh says now that on reflection dai and Derek were probably correct. I tend to disagree as they still produced some great material but yes commercially they never regained the sales they had from 1977-79.
Thanks for sharing Marc I wonder if the sales mix up with regatta de blanc was intentional to push the Police
My favourite Stranglers album, thank you for this
You are very welcome glad you liked it
Number 2 after Rattus in my personal ranking.
Agree with Rattus more to come cheers
Slapnuts 👍👍👍
I was at Wembley when they first played the Raven songs, great album. great day out. Got to see ACDC and The Who as well.
That is awesome what a line up !
Most of the troubles went off before the band even started playing.... and I'm sure those idiots regret it now...
Totally agree
