Hey everyone! We made a follow-up video, answering some questions and comments from this video: ua-cam.com/video/flbCoNUH0lE/v-deo.html . Check it out if you're still curious about this feature! Thanks - BT x
glad you shared this I saw this before I got mine and most folks missed the feature entirely :-) all version of the Korg MS-20 have this as well - it's a pitch to CV feature either this board of the MS-20 will allow you to use any monophonic input - guitar lead, voice, or a theremin :-)
Cool yeah give it a go! Best fun to be had playing with the effects knobs and general riffing. Stay away from chords I'd say though, it only tracks one note at a time
I just bought the JD-Xi yesterday, and I'm lovin'' it so far. I wonder if you could use Jam Origin's "MIDI Guitar 2" and the JD-Xi together in a DAW so you could, for lack of a better word, "stack" MIDI sounds ontop of each other and use them all at once as you play? I can't think of a reason why you couldn't unless the JD-Xi's built-in effects/sounds can't transfer over and be played live in a DAW... Well, I'ma 'bout to check and see if I can figure out how to do that... Anyway, enjoyed the video, man. Love that PRS's color (I was FINALLY able to buy a PRS/my dream guitar (SE Custom) about a month ago. It only took me 12 years after I saw one for the first time when I was 11, ha.). Jam on!
LAIDBACKMANNER did you able to make midi guitar 2 to work on mac by using jdxi and a guitar? Any updates. I really wanted to play guitar polyphonic and translate it to midi using this.
Does anybody think that this would be one of the best affordable synths if it was able to do beats longer than just a maximum of 4 measures? It's my only issue with the JD-XI. Awesome tutorial, and thanks I never knew it could do this.
(Thanks!) - Humm, you can have different patterns and move between them to get longer sequences, or if there aren't quick runs, drop the tempo right down to double the length. But if you wanted to hit play and have it run through a whole load of stuff live unattended, that would be its blind spot.
Guess you could connect an iPad or iPhone to it and have an iOS daw play midi drum patterns into it? I know garageband does not have midi out but cubasis or similar would give you unlimited bar drum patterns.
Thanks again the comment by the way, just a quick note that we put a follow up video together to answer some of those :) - ua-cam.com/video/flbCoNUH0lE/v-deo.html
Yes it's built in .. it works quite well though if you wanted to use it for something super important (gigging) I'd suggest giving it a demo first! ::)
These are just audio effects right? You cannot send the audio of the guitar as midi into your computer, can you? If not, it is still amazing what it can do.
Yes, just a normal mono guitar cable. Keep in mind that the JD-xi works best with a clean guitar signal and playing single notes. So using an effect rich guitar signal may make it difficult of the JD-xi to determine the guitar note and so what you hear played might not sound great.
Hi, cool video. I have a problem with the jd-xi, when I play with beats, my guitar sounds acting very strange, cut out, feels like it try to correct it somehow. Do you know is there any autocorrection function on off or how can i get rid off it. Like I cant do pull on/ pull offs like you do here, because it refuce to play the notes. Thanks in advance :)
Hi - humm, that's a bit weird.. I tried some things out and tried to answer this in our follow-up video here - ua-cam.com/video/flbCoNUH0lE/v-deo.html - hope that helps!
Thanks again for the comment by the way Rosalvo, much appreciated. It's in our follow-up video here if you're interested! ua-cam.com/video/flbCoNUH0lE/v-deo.html :)
Thanks again for the comment Andrie :) We put together a follow-up video answering some of the questions here - ua-cam.com/video/flbCoNUH0lE/v-deo.html :)
I know Roland thanks God for UA-cam. They can make a great synth but their sales dept sucks. This guy just sold a few hundred more I’m sure. I would buy one but just bought the Jdxa.
Haha ah well. I reckon it's good fun, how come you don't like it? You're featured in the new Q&A video for this, so thank you very much for the comment :) ua-cam.com/video/flbCoNUH0lE/v-deo.html
Nah unfortunately not, no polyphony at all. You'd need one of those fancy hexaphonic pickups, plus hardware, with a MIDI output to do that (i.e. GK-3). I'd love to demo one one day and have it work well, but even demo setups in guitar shops just seem to track poorly :'(
Just curious, never been a fan of midi guitars but I'm getting the JD Xi on Monday and I've got my guitar abandoned and far now because of having a huge amp and cabinet (just moving all the time lately) :'( so I was just letting it slip in my head. thnx!

Wow, thanks mate. I've had my JD-XI for about 2/3yrs now and had no idea about this.
me either lol!! I almost sold it but now I've got to pull it out of hibernation just to try this...
Wow! Thanks for sharing this! I was having a hard time choosing between the JD-XI and the HydraSynth Explorer and this swung me over to the Roland!
didn't know you could do this with the jd-xi. cheers for the heads up, that's my week of experimenting sorted
Tracking looks pretty good too. I use mine with a flute.
Your expressions are the greatest !
Trying to decide if I want to buy the JDXi. This video sealed it for me.
Great stuff. We don’t actually use the auto-note that much, but the drum samples it has are pretty great, as is the analogue synth
That was fun bud, thanks!
Man that’s so helpful. I have one but idk hit to play the piano so this will help a lot
This is well cool, I never knew this :D Great vid!
Very nice i cant wait to put my basses and guitars trough my JD Xi when it arrives
Cool yeah give it a go! Best fun to be had playing with the effects knobs and general riffing. Stay away from chords I'd say though, it only tracks one note at a time
would open more possibilities using a Splitter before to make up the original guitar sound to stack it up.
Hi! It's very good idea!
I am just trying to play just as you did!
awesome
Thats cool ! that little box is a Monster ! I cant waite to have one of those in my hands...nice video. 👍

I have everything needed to try this, but haven't. Imma check it out.
This synth its amazing :)

you need an expression pedal to tap into that killer envelope filter on the fly
you need an expression pedal for those cool fluctuations you were playing with the knobs
Ahh awesome idea! Got a half-baked plan to put a real track together with it.. might find a pedal and go nuts with it!
Boxtape great demo
Wow, I had no idea it could do this :D great video!
I think . . . I think I have to buy this synth now.
LOL great video dude - like and subscribed!
Very slick
I want it all!!! Tell me please, this is a basic ability of jd-xi???? If yes ill buy it today!! (And put my guitar in it)
Yes it's built in .. it works quite well though if you wanted to use it for something super important (gigging) I'd suggest giving it a demo first! ::)
Thanks again for the comment, you made it into a follow up video we put together here - ua-cam.com/video/flbCoNUH0lE/v-deo.html :)
lol that's so tight!
Could you get a boss line selector and run this in tandem with a guitar amp?
These are just audio effects right? You cannot send the audio of the guitar as midi into your computer, can you? If not, it is still amazing what it can do.
Cool Does the JD-Xi send Midi notes in this case?
Cool!
Could I plug a guitar effect pedal right into the input? If so what exact wires would I need?
Yes, just a normal mono guitar cable. Keep in mind that the JD-xi works best with a clean guitar signal and playing single notes. So using an effect rich guitar signal may make it difficult of the JD-xi to determine the guitar note and so what you hear played might not sound great.
Cool Idea :)
This keyboard is nuts. Need a drum machine, keyboard, fx pedal, vocoder whatever its got you.
Wow, nice! )))
Hi! Can it be used with a keyboard foot controller ?
Oh cool, kind of like an expression pedal or stomp box? Not sure, haven’t heard of it! I would guess so, its all MIDI controllable!
I didn't even know I could do this with my keyboard.... 😀😃😨

i plug my sg in and it doesn't work what am I doing wrong? I press autonote like u say.
Sam, the same happened with me but found out the problem, you have to increase input volume (menu system) and then the sound will appear, good look
Marcos Kuzka I got it thanks for replying though
Nice
Do you connect directly the guitar? Tried it with my Bass and it did not work
Yes, it should just be a case of plugging in and hitting Auto Note button!
Wow
Yeah it's pretty cool overall! If only it worked with chords too..
como resuelve la latencia?
(Via Google translate..:)) La latencia es mucho mejor en las octavas más altas. Sugeriría jugar arriba y cambiar la octava hacia abajo 1 o 2 en el sintetizador!
Thanks again for the comment pablo.. you made it into our follow-up video from yesteday:) ua-cam.com/video/flbCoNUH0lE/v-deo.html
Legal !! Sem GK 3 ? Como ficam os acordes ?
(Via Google Translate!!) Desculpe, eu não falo português ... mas os cabos não funcionam. As notas mais altas são muito melhores do que as mais baixas. É bom para o efeito, mas talvez não para performances ao vivo perfeitas!
Boxtape obrigado !!

Can it do a chord with guitar?
It's only monophonic tracking.. chords really don't work. It's kind of gimmicky but it can definitely work!
Thanks again for the comment Andrie :) We put together a follow-up video answering some of the questions here - ua-cam.com/video/flbCoNUH0lE/v-deo.html :)
@@BoxtapeRocksYou This monophonic tracking can be also sent to the computer as Midi signal or not?
Kool ;)
!

i got one of those synths and its put me off making music. i may well sell it

just through a regular jack?
Yeah it's a general unbalanced input
Cool, how about playing chords when the preset is not monophonic?
Nah unfortunately not, no polyphony at all. You'd need one of those fancy hexaphonic pickups, plus hardware, with a MIDI output to do that (i.e. GK-3). I'd love to demo one one day and have it work well, but even demo setups in guitar shops just seem to track poorly :'(

Ça sert pas à grand chose...
Ah bon ? Comme ton commentaire
