This is a quite accurate dance to represent the story of princess dayang dayang (princess of first degree) the hip movement that represent the undulating waves of the sea and boats. The flashy finger nails to represent higher royalty. The maids. Although correct me if im wrong, but in the story, there were only 5 maids that took care of her highness. 1 for soap, 1 for towel, 1 for water, 1 for scrubbing, 1 that sleep with her highness. Nonetheless the maids on this dance did a great job. This song was about her story. And was made during the abolishment of the slavery of the sultan era. Princess dayang was also the youngest to memorize the entire koran within a 1yr which usually takes 3 yrs.
Hello, Mr. Bernie. Just recovered this account. You seem to know much about this dance. This was actually performed during a creative dance competition for teachers during the 2014 World Teachers' Day Celebration. Dayang-dayang was chosen as the dance contest piece because the music was the favorite of our then Governor whose name is Dayan. The choreography was purely based on the creativity of the teachers, not on any dance literature. We are not sure of the accuracy of our performance because as I have said, we didn't have a document or a dance research/literature to guide us. Thanks though for appreciating our performance. The performers here are not professional dancers. We are public school teachers who just want to enjoy everytime we celebrate the World Teachers' Month. :-)
i love the creativity but i do not think this is very accurate. especially with the clothes as it is very form fitting but nonetheless, it was a nice performance.
