Metallica’s always in some type of E minor key, and they don’t really use half time breakdowns like this video shows. Plus, the choruses usually have non-palm muted parts, and they generally don’t use many power chords in a moving motion other than choruses. It’s still a good cover though.

Man, from the first time I heard this song it became one of my all-time favorite covers. Vincent's emotion with his metal vocals singing those lyrics, Heafy's super killer guitar groove and Terreberry's outro solo all fit together perfectly. It has stayed in regular rotation since and over time has worked itself waaaaay up my list of all-time favorites songs period. And that's hard to do because I'm a picky mfer. i feel it more like running up that hill in the style of run to hills... like matts tone and style feel more iron maidenish than anything else. with beign said great job everyone.
The solos and vocal work were definitely reminiscent of older Metallica, but I would imagine there's only so much they could do to the riffs while maintaining the chord progression of Running Up That Hill.

Also The T should have worn a Kirk look-a-like (poorly) outfit and there want enough wah. :) And yesterday I realized that I want a cover of “Hell is for children” in the style of Pantera. Think Cemetery Gates. Both have absolutely brutal themes as far as the lyrics goes, and they are catchier than they have any right to be.

It will sound differently depending on what computer it was played on, but I’m guessing a Roland MT-32 midi module should sound ok. TL;DR the sound of the guitar reminded me of the original Doom, which is more than inspired by metal songs of the time. One being, Master of Puppets. YMMV, I’m sure different people will make different emotional connections here. All are equally valid.

My guess is because of the chord progression. IV-V-vi is a fairly common chord progression in many melodic genres of music, power metal included.
