This lovely little grey cow had a small little pocket of good stuff, just under the skin. Rather than let it burst out on its own, we helped it along. She should be right as rain now!
Poor girl. I'm sure she was super uncomfortable. Not saying that as a knock against Enoch, he clearly cares for the animals a great deal. More of a case that sometimes you have to make yourself or the animal uncomfortable for a very brief period so they can get long term relief. I'm 100% certain she's feeling better now that she's gotten that treated!
@@erintoal2018Not even really that much pain. She just didn't like him messing with her head. The little sting from the scalpel felt like something to headbutt away, and her head was restrained, and *that* is when she got upset.
I remember watching a video about an abscess on a cat and they were saying Numbing agents don't work on absecess apparently. So something like lidocaine wouldn't help. Absecess are acidic if I remember correctly. What hurts is the pressure. Not a vet and I watched that video a while ago.
"What beautiful eyes you have"! This lovely cow stole my heart with those captivating and soulful eyes. What a stunning lady bovine!! Bet all the bulls will be crashing on her!💛💛
This kind man is "easy on his patients" and very "Easy on the eyes"! I would have to find a reason for a vet visit several times a week! And his bodacious sense of humor only adds to his appeal!
How do you tell the difference between panic and pain in a situation like this? At what point does a pain response become a red flag for (potentially) something medically worse than an abscess going on with an animal? She’s reacting more strongly than other cows you’ve shown to a treatment that’s extremely routine. Is that just her temperament or is that jaw a particularly sensitive spot?
The skin over abscesses are generally numbed out due to distention, and there isn’t really anywhere to deposit local effectively. If local is attempted, often it results in offending the patient just as much, and to be effective it needs time to work. Cows don’t like being restrained and generally dislike any work up near their head, so we work pretty quickly normally. I had 9 vet students with me, so I took a lot longer than normal to do this procedure and as soon as she realized I was “doing something”, she let me know her displeasure! So, in a nut shell, I don’t believe her little lump was anything too sinister, and her response was mostly due to displeasure at my proximity than excessive pain. Thank you for asking! Cheers!
In alllll the videos I have seen like this, I think this is the first time I've heard the cow react like that. Of course they always jump and kick and react, but not usually moo-ing/ groaning like that.
Well, she certainly SOUNDED like she was in pain - are these particular cows not acclimated to humans? I must admit it's hard to remember/believe what you've said about the skin over an abscess when a cow kicks up such a fuss! I guess every species has their drama queens. Also, what type of cows are these? They're STUNNING. Those coats look like they'd be soft as velvet, and their eyes are so dark and clear. So pretty! I do wish you had a microphone - sometimes you're too far from the camera or the wind has kicked up a bunch and it's hard to hear what you're teaching.
Enoch: what do you think, love? You're alright Cow: that's not the point, Eff you! 😅😂 The cow was of course uncomfortable but I have the suspicion she was also moody and being over-dramatic.
Seriously I love how he cuts open the abscess, massages it a little bit and then starts talking about the jawbone and puts that same hand and fingers in his mouth to answer their question. I literally laughed out loud at that. He is one hell of a doctor. I will give him that though.
You are a wonderful veterinarian and show great compassion to your patients. I also think is good how you are with your fellow veterinarians. I greatly enjoy your videos. 😊
Cant believe he was squeezing pus out with the very same hand he then shoved in his own mouth at 5.22. I grew up on a farm so hands in mouth was definitely something you learned to avoid.🤢
In a previous comment he says he didn't use local anesthetic because poking her would only cause more aggravation vs using the blade to open the abcess over the stretched skin.
The cow feels more pain from the access then from him relieving it. I've had animals all my life. Cows, goats, horses etc. I've relieved a few accesses myself. Cows also love ro talk. Wait to you hear a pig or goat just from being caught.
I use gallons of lignocaine annually and always when appropriate, but it isn’t really appropriate for lancing abscesses for a host of reasons which I have covered off on previously.
@@Davoneization No he didn't. In the first place he was touching the skin out side the access. In the second if you pay attention, he pushed his finger into the skin on and away from the outside corner of his mouth. Not inside of his mouth. If that bothers you might want to quit watching while you are ahead. Guess what? When working with animals like he does or any of us do, you are liable to get poop, pus, or no telling what in you mouth when you least expect it and sometimes all you Can do is spit and keep on working for the moment depending on what you are doing. It happpens.

Don't tell me that didn't hurt her. You can't just cut and say it's like us popping a pimple. They have a nervous system just like us and feel pain, grieving, happiness and love for their calves.
Do to where he cut anesthesia would not work well. Trying to anesthetize it could cause harm to the provider and the animal. Their nervous system not just like a humans.
You can't tell me she didn't feel that. For a cow to scream out in pain like that says a lot. Perhaps a topical numbing cream would help reduce that pain to a more bearable level
@@alistairclement4239 obviously you don't know anything about prey animals showing their pain and how they tend to hide it. Why not numb the area before lancing the lump? Why cause pain when you don't have to?
Why not listen to the video and indulge in the free education rather than remaining ignorant? Because he answers your very question.
