Hi I have just bought a UV 17 - M, that supports five radio ranges 108-136 AM , Police 350-390 mhz UHF, 136-174 mhz VHF, 220-260 and Mhz 400-520 mhz UHF. The L version of the UV 17 does not have 108-136mhz or 350-290mhz. The info is written on page 36 of the second instruction manual you showed in the video
Thx for review and was looking at the L version. There are many options with these, is it worth getting additional accessory 220 band specific antenna or is the H-771 good enough?
I think the 771 is 2m/70cm only, as is the stock antenna. You might look at the Nagoya NA-320A or a similar tri-band antenna if you are going to tx on 220.
Thanks for your video. Question please: I have a green, USB-C charge 17 Pro....Is it possible to display frequency and a name at the same time? Thanks, Michael
I have not found a way to do it......it would be a nice feature. There are a few budget radios that do have that feature ( TID Radio H-8, Radtel 890 are a couple I know of)
if I use a longer Antenna that will extend the range is that correct? also where can I get one from? is it possible to say triple or quadruple the range without having to using repeaters or what ever there called? as you can probably tell I'm new to all of this so any help would be very appreciated. thanks thomas
I'm guessing you are not a Licensed Ham radio operator so keep in mind transmitting on those frequencies un licensed would be illegal. having said that for monitoring several bands I would recommend a scanner antenna those can be found at reasonable cost from most radio equipment vendors. here is a inexpensive VHF/UHF base antenna www.amazon.com/Fiberglass-15-7inch-Connector-Repeater-Transceiver/dp/B08TMGG92L/ref=sr_1_21?crid=3NECE36HPYRYS&keywords=dual+band+base+antenna&qid=1693333081&sprefix=dual+band+base+antenna%2Caps%2C124&sr=8-21
Just get a $30 gmrs license.....no test needed will cover you and your family. The distance will increase based on terrain. In an open field, yes, it will increase distance.....However, if there are buildings, hills, etc, then without a repeater, your distance will be cut significantly.Even if your radio has a 10-mile range, in an area with obstructions you might be lucky to 1 or 2 miles.......However in an open field you can get all 10 miles, maybe more with a longer antenna.
@@w0mas366 That antenna is not a scanner antenna, nor multiband, it is a Dual-band antenna meant for HAM-operators -- and only covers 2m and 70cm - A multiband antenna for LISTENING that goes between 50Mhz - 900mhz, -- would be more suitable, 73 Levi
When i opened my box, it says: BAOFENG UV 17BK, most unusual model.. - but it looks exactly as an 17R, it works on normal BC FM - AIR -- 2M - 200mhz - 350mhz-- 400mhz, bands -- the "airband" sounds terrible, but all the FM are good, 73, Levi in Sweden
Typical Baofeng......the UV-17 variations will make you crazy. I have no airport close enough to me to catch Air Band traffic so I never get a chance to test that.
Hello, can you help me? I've got the same model radio (UV17 L V1.04). Fiddling around with the menu, I've turned on power on PWD, which displays an ''input password'' message each time the radio is turned on. The password is 000000, but before I've turned off my radio, I've left the keyboard lock on. Next time the radio was turned on, I am prevented from typing in the password, thus I'm completely blocked from using it. It also blocks any programming software from reaching the radio... If you know any way I can turn off the keyboard lock or completely restart the radio without the menu (can't be reached), please write me here, thanks in advance.
The first thing I would try is power it on holding the * key and keep holding it until the radio is fully on. if that does not work you can email Baofeng : marketing@baofengglobal.com and ask them Im sure there is a keypad combo to reset to factory
On a handheld antenna, 3 to 4 miles is about as far as you can reliably expect. I'm a little familiar with your area, and that's over 10 miles for sure, probably more like 15 and hilly terrain. If you had a good base station antenna up in the air, that would increase your range immensely

You are very good on your presentation, as well as giving out some really good advice, as well as your knowledge. Keep them coming!!!
Thank you for the kind words, I just do these for fun and hopefully, help someone out here and there
Thanks for the video finally someone showed the difference between the r and the l
Great video, enjoyed it, I just ordered the L version from Ali, I appreciate the mention of the power output on 220. Thanks WA2TWF😀
9:17 just push the green button for 2 seconds and it will change the zone from memory mode to VFO mode in all models that you have.
I have a UV-5RV.....feels very sturdy and nothing about it is toy like....IMHO.

I just got mine from Amazon for 29.00 and it does have the charging port on the back as well as the cable.
Nice ....maybe Baofeng heard the complaints !!!!🙂
Mine is the UV-17 L Pro non GPS. I think its the usbc trI-iband makes it a pro model.

So are you saying the l pro version is complelty open? I am wanting one size fits all type of radio. thankz for the video
Yes the 2 L versions I received tri band tx/rx
But all of them wont do gmrs
Sorry, I'm confused...which one has USB charging port?
And, what's the difference between UV-17 L and UV-17 R?
The "L" version has USB charging and is TRI-Band Tx/Rx ( also TX out of band)
The "R" version is ham band only TX and no USB charging
