The instrument she is using is actually an English version of the cornet with the Shepherd's Crook. The trumpet and cornet are both members of the brass family, but they originally came from two separate ancient instruments. The cornet is favored for it's smooth response and more mellow tone in this type of music. The trumpet is used when a strong separated style of playing is desired such as in orchestra music.
and she has it bravoally memorized, which is becoming a rarity with more and more kids these days. I have some kids in my music class who could play this piece perfectly... but only on their phone!
I love this piece. But when I was in school, I was never good enough to play the lead. I was always backup. Wonderful, keep at it. And thank you for sharing with us.

Odd that you say that since secular music has been shunned and condemned by most traditional western religions. Music in nearly every form was condemned by conservative religionists in the early part of American history. My father, a descendant of puritans was raised in a household where secular music was forbidden. It is religion's hatred of secular music that contributed to my atheism which is why I find your comment ironic.
nunya biznez It's true that certain ultra conservative religious groups shunned music both secular and religious, in fact the Puritans in England in the seventeenth century banned it altogether and yet there is a lot of talk about it in the bible including an instruction to "Sing His praise" and "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord" that would suggest God is very much in favour of it. Personally I believe He blessed us with a world full of it whether we play and sing or not. Birds sing, many other creatures make beautiful sounds in their lives and the Earth is full of beautiful music in all sorts of forms. It's in the wind and the rain and it really is all around us. God gave us those sounds (in my opinion) to inspire us and create music like this beautiful piece along with people who have the talent (which I lack and wish I had) to do justice to it like this young lady.

Lovely intonation, nice full lyrical cornet tone, subtly accented con espressivo, sweet rubato. This girl is destined for greatness.
