  • Hearing this issue and not sure what's up. I had trouble with a M-Audio Profire 2626 before this, but that was firewire. I am doing a restore to start fresh.. and have an M-Audio Saffire FW400 and Ozonic FW400 interface to see if I can find if there is some larger theme. I have tried difference cables, made sure things are seated properly. Using DW8000 as a test signal running into the 2480 mk2

I had this problem when you did but with one of my Ultralite mk3 hybrids. It was a hardware issue in the motu unite. couldnt fix it. managed to sell it. Hope you solved the problem.

yea i think in my case it was ultimately reseating the PCI cards. I guess just somewhere a sketchy connection was causing this to occur. Thankfully no actual bad hardware..

I don't know if you still use this, I am thinking of buying this as an AD converter alone.
I wondered if the converters are still good compared to something like say Behringer ADA8000?
If the interface is still working I wondered how is the latency on recording?

I actually moved over to the MOTU 828 Mk1 (FW400) unit but as far as I can tell they have very similar hardware under the hood. The main thing the 2408s off was the ability to stack up to 3 on a single card giving you 24 in/out.. but i think the AD/DA were pretty much the same.. the 828 mk1 basically is a 2408 with a FW400 interface.. and only one can be hooked up to a system.. I mean i'm no pro audio specialist but I think they do a fine job.. however i don't know anything about behringer ADA8000.. never heard of it before until now.. but they make good stuff so maybe that's a better option? if they are comparable in price i'd go with the behringer simply because it's not 20+ years old now.. for me though I like using the old stuff.. it's cheap.. usually pretty easy to come by if you're patient and seems like it's likely to hold up fine for years to come.. until it doesn't :)

So the fix I found for this behavior was to rearrange the cards.. I first removed all cards and put just it in by itself and it was working then added the other cards and it works great now. The card itself wasn't defective.

At this point i think it's a bad PCI-324 card. I've done some further testing and it happens under OS9 with DP3.11 as well.. Same glitch and with two different 2408mk2's

I heard that cell phones will cause this if it is not a balanced as opposed to unbalanced inputs.

interesting. yea i have to test again, but I did get a replacement card and that took care of the issue. in my case in this video everything was balanced at the time of this recording.

I'm having this kind of issue also... It might be my phone.... Thanks guy's. I will keep on looking...

Yea I'm pretty sure the card was just bad.. not sure what caused it to happen. the issue happened under OS9 too on the same machine. i bought another 324 card and that fixed it

@@riffafrank 324 cards are still reasonable to find under $100.. i have no idea what 424 cards are commanding $400+

@@8bitwidgets I think I can live with my card. It's only doing that noise on the playback once in a while. My recordings are not affected. All good my man. Thanks again.

@@riffafrank yea probably just on the verge of going bad (worse) but yea if you can live with it, cool. tried changing the firewire cable? if you use it much, i'd still start keeping an eye out for another.. just in case it degrades further. i'm not sure if maybe it has capacitors that could be repaired. that could be an easy fix as well.

I've ordered a new card, actually two as i may sell one off and would like to sell the 2408mk2 with the required card to go with it. I'll follow up with this once i know how the replacement cards play out. see what i did there? ha!
