This is down memory lane! My parents bought a 1972 Opel Manta Rallye new and it was nicknamed the pumpkin. Orange / yellow with black hood and stripes; white interior. Best car ever!

This car looks brand new! When my parents were considering the purchase of a Buick Opel Manta (U.S. spec.) the dealer let us take one home for the night. It looked just like this, minus the fog lights and extended tailpipe. This model was called the Luxus (luxury, I presume), because it had cloth seats, vinyl top and the sunroof. We ended up buying the one in between the Luxus and the Rally. Dad wasn't fond of the stripes on the rally or the vinyl top on the Luxus, so that's what we ended up with. I'm glad it had the same wheels as the ones you see here. This turned out to be my first car in 1980. I loved this little car! The aftermarket A/C and vapor lock issues not so much. It gets pretty miserable in the summer here in St. Louis, MO (middle U.S.A.). We fixed the vapor lock with an electronic fuel pump, but I had to live with a horrible air conditioner.

Thank you for sharing your memories! Nice that you could see this car at the dealer. When I got mine it was 14 years old and had 10 owners before, so almost dead and was my first car also. It took 20 years to do the complete rebuilt, also added the sun roof at this stage. Engine, transmission, suspension, the complete body parts, trim - everything new.
The Manta A is in Germany a very rare car also. The american "Luxus" based on the german "Berlinetta" option.

You sure did a beautiful job on it! I may be wrong, but that velour (cloth) seating appears to have the same texture as it was when new (mine were vinyl). The whole car is absolutely stunning! Every once and a while I have dreams about my old Manta. Sometimes I would see several on the road or just dream about the crazy times I had with mine back in high school. I spent a LOT of time parking with my girlfriend until the wee hours of the morning. I would love to have a Manta again, but I know that's just about impossible. Heck, they were extremely rare when I owned mine. By coincidence, my girlfriend just so happened to own an Opel GT -- the only two Opels in my school besides my geometry teacher's Kadet. I did brake and tuneup jobs for him during auto mechanics class. Gosh... even by today's standards the design still holds water. Its timeless. Thanks so much for taking the time to upload this wonderful video!
      /cheers from middle U.S.A

Bought a new Manta A in 1975 had fuel injection. Bright red color. Also bought a 1974 Manta Rallye, yellow with black hood. Fun cars to drive. My cousin had a '73 Silver Manta. We were just saying recently, it was one of the best looking smaller cars. Still is if one can be found. Thanks for your video.

Thank you for your story. Always wondering how many of these went to the US.

This takes me back. I had a 70 Kadett B Rallye in 1973, and then wanted a new car, so I bought a 74 Manta A from the local Buick dealer (USA). I really liked the car but the rear seat room was tight, so less than 1 year later, I bought a bright yellow Ascona A from the same dealer. For 1975 in the USA, they also went from carburetor to Bosch L-Jetronic EFI. The Manta had the same wood trim accents around the gauges, and the Ascona had black plastic, but I had found a wrecked Manta and bought that wood trim surround piece, so my Ascona also had this appearance. And both of them had the same padded steering wheel as your car. I really liked those 2 center air ducts that draw in outside air. If heated air was needed to clear the front window, and the inside temp was too warm, opening those center vents solved that problem. I sold the Ascona in 1987, with 192K miles (> 305K km), and it still ran pretty well, but I needed a daily driver, and some spare parts became very difficult to obtain. I sure wish I had another Ascona A or Manta A. I wish you many happy years driving & enjoying this fine example.

    Hmmmm......2013
