I'm sitting here hating on all the idiots with their phones out wondering why they can't just take in the majesty of it - and then I realised I have one of those idiots to thank otherwise I wouldn't be able to view the majesty of it myself lol.
I flew in these many a time as a support unit for 7 and 33 Squadrons from RAF Odiham back in the late 80s. Always seemed to be mechanical issues with the aircraft back then, usually gearbox problems that would ground them. Hopefully those problems have been ironed out. Great video, brings back memories of a great time for me during my RAF service.
Late 80s were CH-47C models, what you guys called the HC.Mk1, and if memory serves, the issues came from the more powerful engines putting more mechanical force into the drivetrain, resulting in premature bearing & gear wear. You had to send the entire transmission assembly back to a depot level facility to replace the gears or bearings.
I worked on these babies in the RAF! Try marshalling the things (standing in front of them with ping pong bats) GREAST FUN but not as bad as a 'Jolly Green Giant' they tend to blow you over! I now live 3 miles from their base! :))) One of our pilots bought an E Type Jag and I went with him IN A CHINOOK up North to collect it - saved driving it back 400 miles LOL
Goose bumps. Anyone else when they hear a chinook whiles at home runs out to look at them. Can never get board of them. I often stay at my brothers RAF base there a commen site and still I run into my garden to look if hear one.
Just like to point out that a chinook lands near me in a random field/farm for some reason and takes of again. It’s happened for months now and I don’t know why. I live miles away from any base.
Thanks! There's an aerospace industry-related company on the business park, who I think called in a favour from the local base. It was a lovely surprise!
She's a beauty, I think I saw a helicopter too
Love the fact the nerdy guy in jeans and a grey shirt is just taking it all in and doesn’t have a phone or camera glued to his hand!

Living his best life, he got a wokka wokka to look at.
This vid captures the rotor sound better than any other on UA-cam!
Wokka wokka....
and the jet engine wine as well. Very cool!
I couldn’t agree more

Love the fact the pilot does a wonderful hover and the photographer turns his back on it due to the wind, 😳, sod the wind get the amazing pics!!
Flew many times in those beasts during my RAF career at Odiham. Superb workhorse.
Brilliant video, seriously. The sound through headphones is amazing. I was torn between that and the cutie in the jeans!
What, the dude? Freak.
@@sambrowne Obviously not, you moron.
Transported in many a Chinook, so just watched the cutie instead!
This has got to be the best Chinook video I've seen on here. I never get tired of them, even though I work where they come for maintenance.
They sound great! I miss the military.
Thank you for serving our country god bless you!
I have massive respect for the British armed forces. This must have been a great experience.
Incredible piece of engineering even after all these years.
Agreed.
My grandfather loved these things, even survived an RPG attack in one.
Wow the sound of a beautiful aircraft sat majestically in the field.truly amazing.cutie great rear suspension fantastic.lol😉
AND then distracted from the cool chopper at 1:47...

Can't concentrate on both beauties at the same time
Well trained Pilots , Good skills , awesome video
Pilot gets out -"Excuse me Which way to Odiham"

Compared them with Russian helicopters in Bosnia. The Chinook creamed them everytime
Reminds me of '67 VN. Door Gunner. 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Some hips to hang onto right there.

How much does this helicopter cost?
I'm surprised they are standing that close. The wash from the ch is very strong

Board or bored?
Great for leaf blowing and excellent for making "Crop Circles" lol.
Imagine if a man dressed as an alien pops out waves, gets back in, it takes off...
845 NAS Split - saved my life - enternally grateful....
Beautiful
I miss rides in Chinook.my fave
Awesome sound
I was thinking the other day that the V-22 Osprey is just a chinook flying sideways (rotor wise).
And cue the farmer zooming in to the field in his landy rover...screaming get orffff meeeeeee bloodyyyy landddd..🤣🤣🤣
Something you’ll never forget
Its part of there training pilots go through courses to get better skills or in other cases it can be an emergency landing depends on the situation
Oh god
I love that sound

Woolwich?
So why did it just randomly land in a field then take off again ?
@Mistofoles Great question. From the approach the pilot made it wasn't an emergency landing.Part training for new pilots
All those people enjoying this whilst looking through their phone screens :(
Like being at the front row of a gig :(
siempre impresionante Chinook!!
Now just why did it land, just sit there for two minutes, then fly away?
The “47” is a Beast! BV234
What a tremendous video
VIDEO LENGTH 3:55, PROPHETIC NUMBER FOR FELICIA AND KENNY ❤️❤️❤️

Might be autorotation practice, training of another kind. All manner of reasons I guess.
best ventilator for hot summerdays 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Now try and run underneath the downwash!😂😂 ex helicopter rigger! Chinooks are my favourite airframe!🤗🤗✊✊
Only had to do that once in the ARNG when we slung-loaded a Hummer. The force is impressive!
Someone needs to put a ACDC track over this video.
Beautifull girl 😘😘😘
Superb job filming that! Any idea why it landed? :)
