Eohll of course he is! I watched it with my parents too when I was around ten !if you don't remember this then you must be really young! What a great show it was!
Dżordż Nonszalancki This was also my favorite show just after the A-team. Do you think that in the remake, also Baratheon's bastard will sit on styphoam throne, as we called it, Bran will be a new night king and the rest will die, or they change it, so it wouldn't be so predictible?
The ironic thing is that in those old 80-90s intros it always showed the characters in a happy mood. In GOT majority of the characters are miserable 90% of the time and are dealing with some kind of struggle.
In that version, it's a noblebright series where all of the characters shown are still alive and the big problem is the white-walkers threatening a fairly stable king's landing. It's directed and produced in the same style (if not by) the same studio that is behind Xena warrior princess, the Hercules TV show and that one cheesy series with those four knights who were basically the "Not medieval powerrangers".
Tarik360 Oh yeah, nobody swears, most of the characters are nice and decent people (especially Joffrey (he's a philosopher king)) and this is basically a clean show with no sex, cynicism and brutal bloodshed, white walkers gets sorta... banished to the underworld or something in a cheesy lightshow.
Tarik360 Just imagine if modern Game of Thrones came out in the 90s. There would be outrage. Us 21st century folk are so desensitised to sex, violence and swearing.
nematube how ironic, this comment is 2 years old, how's life lol still watching GoT I hope? I shall return in 2 years. GoT season 8 will be over by then 🤧😢 to the future
xrx0R 9 Filming for season 8 begins one week from now and it won't be done until April 2018, that means that season 8 will air in July or most likely September 2018, but it's entirety possible that HBO might wait until early 2019 to air in anticipation for the last season and make sure it's very polished. We'll just have to wait and see, rn I'm leaning towards the September release just bc they can start writing the scipt and producing the sequel.
nematube It's been just a few years since got s01 aired, and there's been countless of great shows, House of cards, Hannibal, True detective, Stranger things, daredevil, Mr Robot, Fargo, and a fuckton more, stop pretending as if GoT is the holy grail of television and everything else sucks.
This made me cry so hard because it made me think about how awesome it would have been if this were something I watched as a kid because game of thrones is totally something I'd watch as a nerdy teenager.
Sacha Lens and they actually did, because we have legends of little people living in trees and dragons too... and some evene believe they still exist. and game of thrones, well we even still have kings in europe today :)
Ah, I remember Game of Thrones. I've got a few episodes of season 1 taped on an EQ-180; forgot to label it though, so I'm stuck with episodes of Fort Boyard every time I try to track it down. I did tape season 2, but my bloody mother taped over it because she wanted to record Diana's funeral, I mean who cares about that?
After watching several Hotline Miami and Game of Thrones videos, this came up in my recommended videos... You're doing something right, UA-cam. This is perfect.
Can't stop watching this cause it reminds me of the old days when I sat down and watched vhs with my grandma and watched movies like terminator or predator (was a huge fan of Arnie as a child)
Ned is still alive after 14 seasons. White walkers were defeated and are now recurring villains. Every episode involves a new minor villain with some sort of catchphrase. Arya and Bran make quips at the end of every episode that makes the entire cast laugh. Oh, and nobody ever dies during a fight, they're just "knocked out" and death only happens offscreen in to villains.
1:17 Varys and Littlefinger are two very interesting characters, but in this intro they are shown in a way they look like the secondary comical characters from 90's Hercules and Xena. Awesome job.
Not everything is made for everyone. It's fine not to like something, but you not liking it does not make it shit instantly, no matter how much you wish it was so. I don't like many TV series or Movies yet I don't feel like bashing them either since they have their own audiences that enjoy them. I simply ignore the things I dislike, I don't go watch 80's VHS versions of them.
I love the nostalgia this brings back. Not just the vibe of the 80's/early 90's with the select stills, pacing or music arrangement but the memory how back before on demand video was made available through internet you'd either have to record via your VHS or actually wait for your show to come on then schedule yourself so you could be present for it. It was more involved and in a way you were more immersed than you are today where we are more inclined to watch a movie, hop on social media and even walk out of the room at times for things because we take it for granted we could just move the little circle back a minute or two and instantly rewatch it without any hassle. But being a kid though and waiting to watch late night movie channel special features was like that long drive somewhere and even though you've finally made it and at the beginning could hardly hold in your enthusiasm, instead you just sit down, look around and enjoy the moment of absorbing the setting/environment. And who could forget the TV Channel Guide then getting frustrated when you get distracted and miss your channel so you have to wait for the whole rotation all over again.
You generally spent most of the time thinking about the show on your own too throughout the day, imaging what might happen, often a week between each episode. No looking up and sharing opinions or discussion boards on the internet to find out the opinions of thousands of other people. Only stuffy critic opinions in magazines which you had to pay for! Then waiting the next day to come into school/work to discus what you saw last night.
My favorite episodes was the crossovers with xena warrior princess working for tywin to rescue jamie and ending in a fight against brienne and hercules searching for uncle benjen. Good times.
LeClaw Blockbuster! Even though i was born in 2000 i still miss video stores. They were a lot more exciting then netflix, it was like a adventure every friday. :(
Game of Thrones was *the shit* back in 1983. This was when HBO made legit content. The crap they're putting out now in 2017 is just sad. RIP Sean Bean 1929 - 2001
Great work Mikolaj! This totally looks like an intro they would've done in the 90s. So accurate! I was laughing and cringing at the same time. If I saw these credits during the 90s, I would change the channel halfway through because it looked so cheesy. (I mean that as a compliment)
+jessc1979 And BTW, great choices for scenes too, e.g.: Mormont riding out from the Wall, Catelyn Stark riding to the Eyrie, the Whitewalkers at the end of Season 2, I would expect the people doing this in the 90s would have picked those scenes as well. It would be interesting to see what the Season 3, 4, 5, etc version of this opening would look like. I kinda think that instead of ending with Bran Starks fall, we would have Danaerys' dragons flying at the screen like the end of Season 3.
I like how each actor is introduced by showing their character in the middle of speaking to someone. 80s TV show intros always did that for some reason.
I can see it now. Everyone's first impression in the 90's when watching the intro would be something like this: "He (The Hound) must be one of the heroes of the story." "(Seeing Sean Bean smiling and hugging) I think this will be a heartwarming, family friendly show. Don't you think?" "Aww, he (Tyrion) seems like a nice man. A fine gentleman, if you will." "Ooh, she (Daenarys) could be an interesting character." "He's cute (Jon)." "(Sees Jaime) He's so hot!" "He's a babe (Joffrey)! Isn't he too young to be a king? Oh well. He'll probably be fine." "She (Arya) has STUPID hair! Why did she cut it? Oh my GOD! She looks like a BOY!" "Who are THESE kids?" "Mmm. (Alfie)" "Who are these two?" "Ew. (Hodor)" If the Game of Thrones we know today was made in the 90's, parents would be in front of the studio protesting because their kids are watching it or dying to see it but they're refusing to let their kids see all the gore, sex, and incest, burning George R. R. Martin's books and saying it's a bad influence on their kids. Nerds in school would possibly be shunned for watching it if it was what made them a geek to their peers, and probably a creeper because they'll be thinking that kid is basically watching porn, but they would meet up with their friends by the lockers after the weekend to talk about what happened in the episode the night before if they haven't already called them on the phone without a family member in the house needing to call someone else. Meanwhile there could be those that watch it that'll just be praising it for breaking so many clichés. Game of Thrones in the 90's would be an interesting time, no doubt.
yeah this came on thursdays at 10:00 on cbs here in ohio. if i remember correctly airwolf came on then g.of.t everybody used to argue what was better g.of.t or dallas. i never thought anything would come close to twin peaks. who knew?
Anyone remember The Adventures of Ghost cartoon show from the 80s? involving the Stark children and their direwolves? Hilarious Villain-of-the-week adventures ensue! My favourite episode is when they defeated The Mountain when he fell off a cliff!
Man the part where Sean Bean looks up at the camera is the most 80's thing in this video
It's the double-take that does it.
Hamza K yes, I agree. When Sean Bean looks at the camera and smiles....totally 80's.
Hamza K yeah ;D 😂
80s af indeed
0:21
lol at all the fucking smiles.
Did you notice:
Like in all sitcoms there are always those guys with the long ass names. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau ,Isaac Hempstead Wright
Tobias Handler Nothing against Nikolaj Coster-Waldau!! ;)
K_Man hahaha 4real, that was hilarious.
Cersei looks so naive and innocent in this. They did a nice job with the footage selection.
Agreed, My favorite is Tyrion when he's doing a wanking motion over the moon door.
+Ryan O +Chico Mello I liked the Ned's part. He looks nice and like a good friend.
Yeah you can tell by the smiley footage this is gonna be a fun adventure
Exactly my thoughts!!!!!
Ryan O pretty Much sums tyrion up in one 😂 best character ever.
Oh boy, my Dad loved this show. I watched it with him when I was only 8. Great show.
Jia L. *Look at that doll and point where ur dad touched you.
Jia L., are you serious.
well you better watched SAW instead
Haha you amuse MadCap
Eohll of course he is! I watched it with my parents too when I was around ten !if you don't remember this then you must be really young! What a great show it was!
0:20 the part where bronn throws the guy down into the hole just looks so unbelievably 80s lol
1:24 also, throwing down peolpe seems to be very 80s
My favorite comment of the day.
No shit?
i think its when Loras and The Hound scene that really 80's af
ElAshtonio i
Watch this in 240p for the best experience.
#240pmasterrace
Fuck that! 144 p for the win!
Epic Person This is the first time where I prefer to watch it in 240p hahaha
Alexandre Cote-Turcotte fuck that.... Toaster for the win
Epic Person XD XD
Just got back from my local video store. Picked up Season 1 part 3 VHS of game of thrones. It has episodes 5 and 6.
The remake we got now is too damn dark. I loved the original 80' series for it was not so damn stiff...
Dżordż Nonszalancki This was also my favorite show just after the A-team. Do you think that in the remake, also Baratheon's bastard will sit on styphoam throne, as we called it, Bran will be a new night king and the rest will die, or they change it, so it wouldn't be so predictible?
Damn, Sean Bean looked so young back then.
Jasper Harrison you didn't catch the joke?
@Jasper Harrison late r/wooosh
@Jasper Harrison, people like you really scare me.
They'd all have American accents too
hahahahaha so true!! 😂
+fraz6354 As realistic as all Romans having English accents.
The Romans ruled a large empire and so did the English. Makes sense to cast them.
+Aussie It seriously makes no sense at all and that's a terrible justification for it.
Americans just sound awful in anything with a pre 1750 theme
That was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
Indeed! hahah
DoctorShazbot Hm..
Noah Van Brabant Better than your average internet argument, I'd say.
DoctorShazbot
Best. comeback. ever.
The rumors of there being things in life being better than this video are greatly exaggerated.
This kind of stuff is a large part of why I'm glad the Internet exists.
Until you look up rule 34 mlp. You will hate the internet and don't have safe search on. Also have anti virus on.
Sven Hansen Instead nowadays they have a "gruesome" moment at the end of every episode where a character dies, just before the credits roll. ;)
This is literally one of the best things I've seen and heard ever
I was expecting a "and.... *Ghost!*" at the end making a cute face. I guess Hodor fills the part...
The ironic thing is that in those old 80-90s intros it always showed the characters in a happy mood. In GOT majority of the characters are miserable 90% of the time and are dealing with some kind of struggle.
+TheGreatCali
thatsthejoke.jpg
hahah randall, thank you.
Hell, when they do smile it's usually because someone died horribly (like Joffrey.)
I think that’s the point lol
This has to be the biggest /r/whooosh ever
Too much sex in the remake. Typical degeneration in our society nowadays.
wat
Hashim Aziz
It's a joke.
Haha!!!
This is EPIC!
+NewRetroWave Well hello there, best channel ever!

You rock I love your channel
NewRetroWave YES. Best video, best comment.

Thomas Wells Makes me regret my previous teenage hopes of "Dirtying up television", things were classier back then.
"Not medieval powerrangers" :D. Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog, it fits pretty good though.
And you were right! Thanks for that, bro!
Ah, the good old days. They don't make great shows like this anymore :D
nematube how ironic, this comment is 2 years old, how's life lol still watching GoT I hope? I shall return in 2 years. GoT season 8 will be over by then 🤧😢 to the future

The best part is Sean Beans double take
Michael Hickey
The most 80's thing you will ever see
This made me cry so hard because it made me think about how awesome it would have been if this were something I watched as a kid because game of thrones is totally something I'd watch as a nerdy teenager.
Me too! My brothers & I would have been into it even more back then simply because we were younger & it would've been more mind blowing to us.
Venus Allison
That's a matter of interpretation.
Venus Allison He means the same principles and events can/have/could happen in real life. Dumbass.
Sacha Lens
and they actually did, because we have legends of little people living in trees and dragons too... and some evene believe they still exist. and game of thrones, well we even still have kings in europe today :)
Not sure if you realize how un-nerdy game of thrones really is.
Stannis Baratheon ,played by Chuck Norris
Ivan olivas the mountain played by Michael Clarke Duncan
Lol hahaha
goodial Syrio Forel played by Adrian Paul
Ivan olivas Tywin Lannister, played by Patrick Stewart
+Ivan olivas Jamie Lannister played by Harrison Ford on his prime
The shot of Varys and Littlefinger together with arms crossed was the best
One of the best videos on UA-cam.
Indeed
Towarzysz Misza nope. This is not the original video. The OG is better
Average Alien that's kind of why it says, "one of" not just "the." Two different contexts
It even has the 4:3 aspect ratio.
well fuck me you're right, lol
Ah, I remember Game of Thrones. I've got a few episodes of season 1 taped on an EQ-180; forgot to label it though, so I'm stuck with episodes of Fort Boyard every time I try to track it down. I did tape season 2, but my bloody mother taped over it because she wanted to record Diana's funeral, I mean who cares about that?
ahh the nostalgia
+Patronuz Plays once u seeing this in the future your mind will trick you that you have been living on 90 's LOL
Everyone was so happy in the 80s
I have all these on tape!
Oh man, I remember how they showed it on TV along with an episodes of Hercules and Xena
I think I may have forgotten how much authority a nice synthesizer could bring to an opening sequence. Thank you for reminding me.
Is that from Lady Hawke or Deathstalker?
After watching several Hotline Miami and Game of Thrones videos, this came up in my recommended videos...
You're doing something right, UA-cam.
This is perfect.
Hotline King's Landing: Wrong Raven
0:21 Sean Bean looking up is probably the most 80's thing I've seen
Cersei looks like innocent woman, Tyrion like best buddy and Jaime like f*cking gentleman.
AND EVERYONE LOOKS SO HAPPY ;_;
lol jon snow is jon stamos as fuck
and Joffrey looks like really funny guy
The way he pushes Bran, you'd think the kid will harmlessly fall into the moat.
To be fair, if there's one adjective that describes Jaime, it's f*cking.
Why is this so satisfying ?
Rheiko I don't know, but i love this intro so much, it makes the original looks boring
80s Power my friend
This could easily be a disco dance track, is there a GOT dance track playing in clubs yet?
Can't stop watching this cause it reminds me of the old days when I sat down and watched vhs with my grandma and watched movies like terminator or predator (was a huge fan of Arnie as a child)
Wtf did your grandma like the Terminator?!
Haha similer memories my friend
This makes me wonder how old the real intro will feel in 30 years.
like 30 years older
Well, you need to wait 20 more years to find out
I was expecting MacGyver to appear at any moment.
The Aidan Gillen/Conleth Hill shot was so perfect.
Right? That shot of Varys and Littlefinger standing there like two creeps is SO funny
I remember waking up early on Sunday mornings to catch this show. I love it!
The part when Ned looks up slightly confused lmao
That is so 80s style!
Really good work!
Little finger and Varys standing there with there names underneath was the most 90s part of this video
1:17 Varys and Littlefinger are two very interesting characters, but in this intro they are shown in a way they look like the secondary comical characters from 90's Hercules and Xena. Awesome job.
That glance from Sean Bean at 0:21 is perfect
I can't deal!! This is too perfect!
Takes you back. Even if you've never been there.
I always come back watching this, even 25 years later.
Duuude that was sickest thing ever! I got so sad when it ended, i want the whole show to have a late 80s early 90s vibe!!
I switch to youtube to watch this intro before 👏 every 👏 single 👏episode. Whoever did this is an absolute genius.
Holy crap, I wasn't really interested in watching this show but now I GOTTA see this.
*****
Because it is not very good?
Lauri Hyttinen In your opinion that is. But then again most Finns don't have a very good taste in Movies or TV series :P
fapnawb hahahaha
Welp, this conversation changed its mood quickly...
Not everything is made for everyone. It's fine not to like something, but you not liking it does not make it shit instantly, no matter how much you wish it was so.

Oh yeah I remember these times, like in ‘86 I was listening to Modern Talking “Walantis is calling” and watching Game Of Thrones!
My favorite episodes was the crossovers with xena warrior princess working for tywin to rescue jamie and ending in a fight against brienne and hercules searching for uncle benjen. Good times.
where can i rent this VHS?
Try your local Blockbuster Video store :)
LeClaw Blockbuster! Even though i was born in 2000 i still miss video stores. They were a lot more exciting then netflix, it was like a adventure every friday. :(
skyalert32 I know the feeling...
Luciano Pereira In an alternate dimension from this one.
+Spicy Legato have you tried Blockbuster. I get all my VHS from there.
Its great to finally see this in full colour!
Being raised in the greater toronto area in the 90s I can soooo see this coming on tv on saturday and sunday mornings on a channel called the NewVR
Seen a comment where someone said , ‘there would be a new villain every episode’ !
Basically introducing almost all characters with shots of them talking or turning their heads. Classic.
1:26 nailed it.
The peter dinklage / lena headey sequence is pure gold!!
loved watching this growing up as a kid in the 90s. best damn show!
I remember watching this show with my grandma when I was 6
God, they were all so young looking compared to now. I can't believe it's been , what , 7 years
Makes me want to watch that show and had it not been that Game of Throne is so good already I'd bet it be even better as a 80-90s show! xD
Xena was basically game of thrones of the 90's. This video is pretty much the same intro as Xena but with eurotrash synth dubbed over it.
Kibbler69 Hmmm... Xena, I'll add it to the list of things to watch.
Kibbler69
WHAT??!! hahaha. yeah i don't think so.
*****
Go back under your bridge troll you aren't welcome here.
Kibbler69 Whats with the underhanded shot at the music? I thought it was pretty neat and well made. You're an asshat.
The VHS flickering killed me. If this was made 10 years earlier it would be as common as Coronation Street and Emerdale. 😂
Oh je peux plus m'arrêter de rire, c'était tellement ça les feuilletons kitch!
Love this show as a kid, especially the PSA episode when Jon found Robb's milk of the poppy stash in his locker after school
Game of Thrones was *the shit* back in 1983. This was when HBO made legit content. The crap they're putting out now in 2017 is just sad.
RIP Sean Bean 1929 - 2001
Would it have a laugh track?
Guilherme Santos
Enters Ygritte.
_Aaaaaawwww!_
"You know nothing, Jon Snow."
_Ahahahaha! Clap, clap, clap!_
How can something be so epic yet so hilarious at the same time.
They should do a remake in the future....
Oh wait.
I taped over so old family videos once to record this, i was most the way through first season when mom found out.!
AMAAAAZING!!! You forgot Natalie Dormer though :(
They forgot a lot. Who cares it's funny.
Well, since they included Sean Bean and Natalie's role really starts in season 2 it's not unreasonable :D
Makes me want to watch Neverending Story.
There's literally no new ideas in entertainment anymore. Just take a classic 80s show and make it grimdark smh
I like how each actor is introduced by showing their character in the middle of speaking to someone. 80s TV show intros always did that for some reason.
...and, all of a sudden, you find yourself dreaming of a jet ski pursuit in Blackwater Bay.
AWESOME!!
J'ai l'impression que je vais me mater les Feux de l'amour version médiéval
Whoever made this deserves countless awards
This clip predicts the end, a Lannister pushes Bran to the throne.
That last scene with Jamie pushing Bran out the window had me
I love how they made the haircuts look 80s for the video.
This is perfect and so well done! Couldn't be more true! 😂😂 almost makes the show look less dark and gory than it is!
+musicguy713
It definitely does. Feels so happy. ;_;
musicguy713, you mean the remake?
musicguy713 the innocent faces...arghh!!!
Thanks for posting this. I had a video with some GoT episodes on, but I accidentally taped over it with the Crystal Maze.
I can see it now. Everyone's first impression in the 90's when watching the intro would be something like this:
"He (The Hound) must be one of the heroes of the story." "(Seeing Sean Bean smiling and hugging) I think this will be a heartwarming, family friendly show. (Hodor)"
If the Game of Thrones we know today was made in the 90's, parents would be in front of the studio protesting because their kids are watching it or dying to see it but they're refusing to let their kids see all the gore, sex, and incest, burning George R. So cheesy, I love it!
Faith in humanity restored
This is Beyond Amazing!!! 80's are the best!!
Hiii
Bhavesh solanki Amen brother!
Good morning
I dont know any of you :D
This brings a "feels Good" sensation. It almost makes the show looks happy and not kind of depressing as it is..
WHO EVER MADE THIS IS A FREAKING LEGEND!!!!! LOLOL
lmao! Even in 4:3 format. Well done!
de los creadores de Xena la princesa guerrera, llega Juego de Tronos
music is little to hip for a fantasy tv show of the 80s , they all used cheesy orchestral jingles back then
Anyone remember The Adventures of Ghost cartoon show from the 80s? involving the Stark children and their direwolves? Hilarious Villain-of-the-week adventures ensue! My favourite episode is when they defeated The Mountain when he fell off a cliff!
Sansa popping into frame and smiling is the most 80's
