  • This video is about Urodynamics. What is it used for? What is it evaluating? How long will this take?
Urodynamics is a procedure that examines the function of the bladder, sphincters and urethra in storing and releasing urine from the body. Urodynamic tests can be ordered if symptoms aren't straightforward or if treatment options may include surgery and the physician needs detailed examination of the function of the lower urinary tract.
Symptoms that may suggest urodynamics may be useful include:
    Urinary incontinence (bladder leakage)
Frequent urination (Usually more than 10 times a day)
    Painful urination
    Sudden urges to urinate
Previous bladder/urethra surgery or radiation treatment
Difficulty urinating (to begin stream or empty bladder completely)
    Recurrent urinary tract infections
The majority of urodynamic test do not require specific preparation however it is wise to bring in a somewhat (not uncomfortable) full bladder. You can eat and drink as usual in the lead up to the procedure and drive yourself.
However, some particular tests may require slight alterations in the fluid intake in the preceding hours before the examination, or to cease taking certain medication.
In this case, the patient may be advised to arrive at the clinic with a full bladder, or may be instructed to drink fluid upon arrival.

@@jerseycitysteve no but this procedure is degrading and embarrassing especially if being conducted by female nurses and doctors

This is akin to sexual assault. Anyone who does this should be labeled as a sex offender and sent to prison with Jerry Sandusky. How is this legal?
