@@RikJSmith That isn't the point. The point is the Cheetah doesn't want to get injured killing a Serval. Any legit injury to a Cheetah dooms it to death, along with any cubs that it might be caring for. Cheetah's attack prey that chew grass and runs away, not animals that have sharp claws and fight back.
Cheetahs will fight to defend cubs, that's mostly it. Even then, when they know a cub is doomed to die, it will preserve its own life and just mate again.

I love the bravery of the little Serval (not like it had much choice, TBF, lol) and the curiosity of the big cheetah.

Cheetahs seldom attack prey which doesn’t run. They rely on the acceleration of the chase to give them the power to knock down and overpower their prey when acting up to them. This combined with the serval not backing down saved its skin

basically cheetah vs tiny cheetah, it would be one very lame fight, Servals are the cats that people breed with domestic cats to make Savannahs..that they sell for thousands, anyway, the actual cat is amazing, smart and has incredible vertical jump ability, like 10feet
They can also move extremely fast! Whereas cheetahs have permanently extended claws that tend to be dull and are used to help them with running, servals have extremely sharp retractable claws that are excellent for swatting prey or used in their defense. Although servals are smaller, they tend to be much more aggressive, whereas cheetahs tend to be more relaxed and save their energy when not pursuing prey.
As a police officer I once had to capture a serval after it was found running loose in a neighborhood. A lady was walking a small dog like a chihuahua when the serval came sprinting out of the nearby woods and attacked the dog. The lady’s screaming scared it off before it became the cat’s meal.
After a neighbor trapped it in his garage, I placed a large dog travel cage near it and the cat went in. As soon as the front was closed, any movement near the carrier solicited strange spitting/growls and lightning fast paw strikes against the side of the cage.
Even though servals can be bred with domestic cats to create savannah cats, make no mistake about them being wild and containing significant power.
As an aside, my friend volunteered at the Cincinnati Zoo and got to work with the cheetahs. Unlike most big cats, cheetahs can routinely create strong bonds with humans. They are regularly kept as pets in the Middle East and North Africa and used for hunting various small game like antelope. They are often pictured riding in luxury vehicles with fancy collars.
My friend got to enter the cheetah cage and scratch and play with them. Cheetahs are one of the very few big cats that can purr too, and he said that they would regularly stretch and let him scratch them as they purred, just like a domestic house cat. 🐾❤️

Everyone is like "the serval is wise to not to try to outrun the cheetah". Just because an animal is faster does mean it can catch another animal, the serval is more agile and can turn much on a dime. Each turn can create lots of space and Cheetah's legs are long, so it needs more space to complete a turn.
And a Cheetah's top speed is achieved for only a short sprint, and a serval isn't slow, it can reach 45 MPH, so there is no guarantee a Cheetah will catch one.
