As a non-Husker fan who has lived in Nebraska off and on since their pinnacle in the mid-1990s, it's both amusing and sad at the same time to see how far they have fallen. I used to catch all sorts of garbage going to high school in Lincoln because I wasn't a Husker fan (I lived in Manhattan KS before I lived in Nebraska, and have bled Wildcat purple ever since). Those memories, the smug air of entitlement that some fans had from the otherwise unheard of generation-long run of unbroken powerhouse teams, without a single "bad" year of fewer then 9 wins from 1969 to 2001, and the Huskers' traitorous desertion of the Big 12 for the B1G contribute a certain amount of schadenfreude to the current situation, but at the same time, there is something depressing about how upside down it seems remembering how unstoppable the "Big Red Machine" was a generation ago, and how pitiful they are now. I also met Scott Frost at a youth event in 97, when he was Nebraska's starting QB and I was a high schooler. I was favorably impressed with him at the time, and was really hoping he would have at least moderate success as the head coach, only for him to outdo Callahan and Riley at losing.
Depends on how you view “Memorial Stadium” that this 214 win stat may not be accurate. If you count other Memorial Stadiums such as 2007 Booth Memorial, Nebraska put up 39 against KU and lost..
I've been a Nebraska fan for over 50 years. NU has only had 1 winning season since Bo was fired. It's not just Frost, there is something wrong with the whole system of playing football. It's not much of an accomplishment to beat NU. These days it seems every team they play can do it. It sure is monotonous seeing them lose almost every game.
As a longtime resident of Nebraska (moved to Lincoln in the summer of 94) who is a K-State fan (lived in Manhattan KS from 88-90) and usually cheered for the Big Red when they weren't playing my Wildcats, here is my perspective on how it came to this. There were actually two noticeable drops in quality for the program. The first happened under Solich, when the 2002 team went 7-7, which was the first non-9-win season since 1969 and the first non-winning season since 1961. Some of that was due to the fact that while Solich was continuing many of Osborne's traditions and retaining a lot of his staff, he wasn't quite at Osborne's level (to be fair, who is?) But when the AD fired Solich for the 9-3 record in 03, it basically killed the Osborne system, along with the NCAA changing the walk-on rules that had previously allowed Nebraska, as the only meaningful football program in the state to fill its reserves with its pick of a whole state's worth of fiercely loyal walk-ons, saving the scholarships for marquee athletes from all over the country. One of the things I noticed on the Osborne-era teams that made them so powerful was their insane depth. The 95 team, the best in college football history by a wide margin, had 5 running backs that could have started for their pick of top-10 college football teams that year. The O-line had to replace 4 starters from the famous "Pipeline" that was one of the best O-lines ever, and was actually BETTER in 95! The rule change and the importing of Callahan with his pro-style offense burned that system to the ground. Osborne's stepping in as AD and hiring Pelini and some of Osborne's old assistants partially reversed that decline. The Huskers weren't the unstoppable powerhouse they had been in the Devaney/Osborne era, but they were still a solid, consistent team that always lost exactly 4 games per season and won 9 or 10, depending how many games they played. The second decline, which killed that era, and brought things to where they are now, stem largely from moving to the Big 10. It was a good move from a purely monetary standpoint, but came at the cost of cutting off Nebraska's recruiting pipeline in Texas, which is part of the reason the Huskers didn't collapse right away, as they still had the stability of keeping the same coaching staff and had those last few good recruiting classes to carry them for the first few years after the move. The fact that Pelini was fired right around the time that the last Big 12 era recruiting class graduated was a double blow that sent the program into its current downward spiral. The Cornhuskers are in the position of a former world heavyweight boxer, long past his prime, who had discovered he can earn a lot of money by letting himself get pulverized by any two-bit punk who wants to say he beat a former champion and is willing to pay good money for that privilege. Even as a non-fan, it truly saddens me, and I hope Nebraska finds a way to become a contender again.
These big schools have been praying on the smaller schools as tune up games for years, it so nice to see the smaller ones getting even with a lot of them now.
I can't figure out how Nebraska is consistently able to play to a level of football just about 3 or 7 points less than their opponents - no matter who they play. Georgia Southern right? 3 points - Michigan B10 champs last year; 3 points. Your local senior center - 3 points. High School Chess Club - 3 points. Nebraska fans have been teased for too long - what is the problem?
I’m a lifelong Tennessee fan, and there are a lot of similarities between our programs. States that don’t have huge local talent bases, who have to go out of state to recruit. We were good at the same time, in the 90’s at least, and we have been wandering in the wilderness for 20 years together too. I hope Nebraska gets it together, man. Nebraska are such a blue blood program, much more so than Tennessee, and intimately intertwined with the history of this game, and Husker fans deserve better. Nebraska, we want you back! The game is better when you’re competitive!
As a Tennesseean who just basically roots for the SEC in general but would also like to see my home state team succeed, I've always kinda thought the same thing about Nebraska and Tennessee being similar over the last 30 or so years. However, I do take issue with your statement that Nebraska is more of a blue blood organization than Tennessee.
@@cm1133 Notre Dame was reasonably relevant under Brian Kelly. He made it to a BCS Championship game and two playoff semifinals. Trouble was, they got crushed in all three of those games. And Nebraska is hopeless.
Nebraska has a ton of local talent. If we kept the in state kids this program would look completely different. I went to Nu, early 90s, and had friends who played on the team. Back than players didn't leave the state, now players are choosing to go elsewhere. It has nothing to do with lack of talent in the state.
Kansas State destroyed Missouri. You wanna know who Kansas State's QB is? Adrian Martinez; transfer from NEBRASKA! He started for four years for the Huskers with little improvement over time, and now he is flourishing his full potential. I'm happy for Martinez. *If* only it was Nebraska that did that... 😔
Huskers have been bad for a long time. Georgia Southern was paid to come in and take a dive. Nebraska was a 22 point favorite to blow them out but somehow Southern didn't get that memo. Frost has had plenty of chances and has failed. Time to go.
Anyone else as excited as I am for the late November match-up of Nebraska vs Iowa? Last conference game with it all on the line between these two. I'm always in awe of how the B1G had the foreknowledge to bring these two teams to the peak making it the most anticipated and compelling Heroes Trophy game ever

Nebraska overestimated Scott Frost as a coach based on UCF. Frost took advantage of fertile recruiting in Florida, while not understanding top players don't want to be in Nebraska. Frost got stars in his eyes about going home, not realizing top players don't want to go to Nebraska. Both Frost and Trev Alberts need to go for what they've done to Nebraska. Bo Pellini might very well be a jerk, but he at least won games. Frost needs and Alberts need to go
He took advantage of fertile recruiting and also a more offensive style conference than the Big 10. It’s not just a recruiting thing but I think a conference change too but either way. Frost is done. He needed to start 4-1 or 3-2 with a win to OU and no losses to teams like GSU and failed miserably. He done
Players don't get drafted nor make roster spots in the NFL if they aren't talented. Poor special teams, Poor clock management, misuse of personnel, Poor ball security, and Avg line play, and lack of identity (Run/Pass) lead to the demise of Coach Frost. I pray that we get Urban Meyer.

I'm an alumni of the University of Tennessee. I was in school the years that Peyton Manning was there. I remember how we had a shot at the national title if we could beat Nebraska in the bowl game. Before the game, Nebraska announced that Tom Osborne was retiring after the game. I knew we were screwed after that. Even with Peyton at quarterback. Scott Frost was the starting quarterback for Nebraska. My Vols hung with the Huskers for about a quarter and a half. And then Nebraska just pushed the pedal to metal. I lost count of how many times Scott ran to his right out of the pocket and flipped the ball to the tailback who then ran it down our throats. My Vols lost 42-17. With Peyton Manning at quarterback. Let that sink in for a minute. When I saw the Georgia Southern final few minutes? I couldn't imagine what a Husker fan felt after being on the mountain top like they were with Osborne. I really hope the program at Nebraska gets back to being Nebraska. Even if they did run the ball down our throats. 😎
As a Razorbacks fan, who endured both Beilima and Chad Morris, I feel for the Cornhusker faithful. The right coach can bring y'all back, but it's a shame, I loved watching Nebraska back in the eighties nineties and early 2000s.
don't forget the seventies. 1972 Orange bowl #1 Nebraska 38 #2 Alabama 06. Powerful football team. 1982 Nebraska went to Auburn to face Bo Jackson and the Pat Dye coached Auburn Tigers: Nebraska 41 Auburn 7. Need I say more?
I mean is "stuns Nebraska" an accurate statement? I have a feeling that most Nebraska fans think that it's a good possibility that they lose every game with Frost as HC.
The f-king nerve to lose to a Sun Belt team as a team in the Power 5 divisions in NCAA Football. I hope to the lord that Frost was trying to get fired, and my respect for him would skyrocket from here on out, because I want him fired even more.
Scott Frost should already been fired by the time he got his ass to the locker room. Oklahoma next week? There is no way in hell he should be coaching that game. Time for the big thaw in Lincoln. The defrost mode is on its way! Been 20 years since this program did anything! Tired of this shit! I'm back a day later to add to this comment. Frost got Fired!!!!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣Dreams do come true!
Here's a reminder that Frost's buyout decreases from $15M to $7.5M on Oct. 1. 2022, when Nebraska's homecoming game vs. Indiana takes place. Stay tuned, folks.
Why do these coaches get jumping ship for the "prestige of being the one to bring a national brand back to prominence" instead of enhancing YOUR own creation?

Nebraska, Notre Dame and Tennessee need to realize they will never ever be relevant.
@@cm1133 Notre Dame was reasonably relevant under Brian Kelly. He made it to a BCS Championship game and two playoff semifinals. Trouble was, they got crushed in all three of those games. And Nebraska is hopeless.
Tennessee and Nebraska have a home and home series in 2026 and 2027 I belive
Nebraska has a ton of local talent. If we kept the in state kids this program would look completely different. I went to Nu, early 90s, and had friends who played on the team. Back than players didn't leave the state, now players are choosing to go elsewhere. It has nothing to do with lack of talent in the state.
Georgia Southern, Kansas and Kansas State are 2-0 now, let that sink in.
Don’t forget Duke
oh yeah duke too
So 🤣🤣 if you said 10-0 then it would be special
Kansas State destroyed Missouri. You wanna know who Kansas State's QB is? Adrian Martinez; transfer from NEBRASKA! He started for four years for the Huskers with little improvement over time, and now he is flourishing his full potential. I'm happy for Martinez. *If* only it was Nebraska that did that... 😔

Frost needs and Alberts need to go
This is trevs first year as ad why would he need to go
I agree Frost was suppos3d to be wonder boy for Nebraska
@@chadmckeighan6726 Urban Meyer is making potentially 3-5 million dollars sitting on set for fox, he's not coaching anyone let alone Nebraska. And you need talent at any university in order to win, frost never got into Lincoln, and now he's out
Even the GSU coach knew what this meant for Frost. Looked like he knew he was shaking the hand of a soon-to-be unemployed man.
Clay Helton has been in the same position

Who cares. A college football coach is the most pampered and protected employee on the planet the day he gets fired. I can’t understand why people feel sorry for a college coach when he gets fired. They always walk away with millions of dollars.

This is basically the Chad Morris era for Nebraska lol
With each passing year, Nebraska’s move to the Big 10 still rings as one of the dumbest moves in recent memory. The school that everyone used to fear is just long gone. This is the normal now.
Exactly so. But Dr Tom didn't like Texas.
It has nothing to do with switching conferences. Enough with that. If that was the case, why were we solid the first couple seasons of BIG10 play?
@@bb-double-yuh the recruiting base was excited. And then that 70-31 debacle made one thing clear. Nebraska will be middle of the pack at best against the Big Ten powers. The old recruiting base has stayed in the Big 12 and Frost has caused damage they may take years to fix….if it ever gets fixed.
