@mwuahahahahaa I assume it is Johnathan saying Trump is acting like he's trying to be a king, so it is a criticism of him. And the whole point of the Revolutionary War was America didn't want to have a monarch, so it is going against our values to have a president who acts the way Trump does
OHHHHH the symbolism. 2:40 "the world turned upside down" while the lights are bright red, directly after "I get the - back up again" bit, transitioning immediately to Leslie Odom Junior singing "I wanna be in the room where it happens" while the lights slowly turn BLUE in a shape RESEMBLING THE WHITE HOUSE, then skipping right to "we dream of a brand new start, but we dream in the dark for the most part". AMAZING. Purposefully including "I know that we can win, I know that greatness lies in you," as he POINTS TO THE AUDIENCE then as mentioned by others the melody calling us to action. I see the "History has it's eyes on you" not as a reminder to Trump, but a reminder to US. History is watching, just as they watched our founding fathers, and we cannot throw away our shot. EDIT: not to mention Leslie Odom Junior saying "non-stop" like that, at 0:15 . 100% referring to Trump
These younger generations, especially gen z currently, are the hope for this country. We need to fix this country while we still can before it is ruined beyond fixing. I myself, am disappointed in what this country is turning out as because of the president. He's 'making America great again'. We haven't been great for a while. We don't need to be great if being 'great' ruins us beyond fixing.

@@sparklemotionnoo9892 10 years since it opened, 9 years since they nearly swept broadway, 8 years since the mixtape was released, 6 years since the Disney+ re-release, 5 years since Lin revealed the last cut song (I Have This Friend), and less than a year since Burr announced he’d return for another show this September.

I don’t think they could. I think they had to be really subtle about the messages they were sending (as subtle as you can be with Hamilton I mean) that’s why the choice in wardrobe and even the medley arrangement is the way it is. Not to be a Burr but we are officially in a time in USA where we have to be careful of what we say
I fear the comments arent realizing the deeper meaning behind this preformance and the political message hidden into the specific songs snippet choices and wardrobe.

king George is the only one wearing red, The French would wear red to represent bloodshed in war. This was Lin's genius way of subtle activism. History has its eyes on you
I’m pretty sure it was more of a nod to how the English soldiers were called “redcoats” because their uniforms were red. And King George is English, not French.
@@bookishtook the costuming for this specific performance is to mirror what’s happening currently in the us. Lin is no stranger to activism in that regard. This was 100% a statement as theatre always is in regard to politics.
Beret & one glove...not accidental. There was a duality in it's purpose: a nod to Lafayette's French heritage, as well as calling out another revolutionary party that focused on fighting against racial & social injustices & the right to defend oneself from oppression. Not a word was spoken but the symbolism was so powerful that the message was received loudly & clearly: “You're not to be so blind with patriotism that you can't face reality. Wrong is wrong, no matter who does it or says it.” ~“All of our people have the same goals, the same objective: freedom, justice, equality. All of us want recognition and respect as human beings.”~"A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything." ~Malcom X BPP. And everyone in black--symbolic of mourning the demise of democracy as the founders fought to establish here--only the king wore color...and he was in red. Red: the color associated with danger, violence, bloodshed, and oft associated with regimes of oppression or tyranny. Anyone and everyone who played a part in the decisions behind costume design added extra poignancy that caught my breath and drew tears. Layers of meaning felt deep in my soul. Stunning.

I assume it is Johnathan saying Trump is acting like he's trying to be a king, so it is a criticism of him.

The whole thing was amazing, exactly what we needed right now. I’m watching this after the No Kings protest, and have a bit of hope.
I didnt' realize any of this! omg you're so right about the "nonstop". its not a 'this man is nonstop!" its a "Good Lord this man will not stop"
How does the nonstop refer to trump?
I think the call and answer of “look around,” and “he will never be satisfied,” are a Trump reference. Overlayed with “nonstop.”
Daveed deserves a Tony for being able to do that jump after ten years.

Has it already been 10 years?? What an electrifying medley. For a moment, I was transported back in time when “hope” was our country’s message
10 years since it opened on Broadway... but just 9 since they nearly swept the Tony's (Cynthia Erivo won Best Leading Actress in a Musical for "The Color Purple," taking the award that would have been Pippa's & ruining the Hamilton attempt at an all 4 Tony's sweep, with Daveed & Renee winning Best Featured Actor & Actress in a Musical, & Leslie winning Best Leading Actor!"
Holy Cats, Leslie's entrance out swaggered Billy Dee Williams 😅
@@soon-ishOSC It was released on Disney+ in July 2020, so that's 5 years. IIRC, it was originally scheduled for late 2021 in theaters but was changed due to covid.
Wish they had included the “immigrants, we get the job done” line I feel like that would’ve sent an even more powerful message about our current political climate
yeah
Totally agree. That line is always powerful, but now? More than ever.
Legit people need to look a lil deeper into the performance
@@Bulbasaurbo1exactly! the ending sequence of “History has its eyes on you” “Why do you assume your the smartest in the room” “Look around, Look around” “He will never be satisfied, satisfied” “History has its eyes on YOU” that specific order of songs means something! along with the king being the only on wearing red…
king George is the only one wearing red, The French would wear red to represent bloodshed in war.
This was 100% a statement as theatre always is in regard to politics.

daveed with the BERET is actually ICONIC
Absolutely
Stunning.
i actually gasped when i saw his costume i LOVE the symbolism this entire performance had, it was so freaking good.
So, you're telling me that Lin-Manuel Miranda, Renee Elise Goldberry, Philipa Soo, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Leslie Odom Jr, Jonathon Groff, Christopher Jackson, JEREMY JORDAN, and SO many other Broadway STARS WERE IN A ROOM AT THE SAME TIME?!! How I wish I could've been there.
