Absolute Radio 1215 MW closedown announcement

On the 4th January Absolute Radio announced that it was closing it's MW transmitter network. This is an example of the announcements they've been broadcasting instead of advert breaks to warn listeners.
Absolute Radio originally launched as Virgin 1215, prior to that 1215 MW was used by BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 1 and before that the BBC Light Programme

I have been listening to it on 1215am since it first started as Virgin. This is a historical moment for UK when 1215 falls silent as it was the Light Service I believe and then Radio Two before becoming the UKs first national commercial music station (anyone remember it’s launch with Richard Branson in the virgin megastore?) For many of us we love AM, being a trucker I have listened to this around Western Europe, in the late 90s on the beach in Holland on a walkman, the phase distortion that 1215 used to suffer from so has the fill in transmitters on 1197, 1233, 1242 and 1260. In my first car that wash a Ford Fiesta with only a two dial AM radio. On holiday on the Baltic island of Gotland at night when surround by the swedish in laws and it was great to hear the voices of home, music and UK towns and cities.
I guess the writing was on the wall since when they reduced the transmitter power last year, forcing a lot to move to DAB.
Bye bye 1215, I will miss you as a frequency I’ve know most of my life. AM is still king of broadcasting and I will miss you. Just how long will Droitwich and Brookmans Park AM transmitters last now?

They should have put Absolute Radio 60s to replace Absolute Radio on 1215AM/247m as it's not available on national DAB & it was where the original BBC Light Programme was & there's alot of history attached to it & would be a far cry to revert back to where all the 1960's pop was originally played Just a thought ☹️😪
