- CNN's Brianna Keilar speaks to veteran journalist Carl Bernstein after Idaho election officials found nothing in their investigation into voter fraud in the state during the 2020 election.

Sadly your country has tens of millions of citizens who have succumbed to collective psychosis and who are, for all intents and purposes, stark raving mad.
You are so correct! If fascism does take hold here, do you have any room for an old soldier ex-patriot? I speak the language. (more or less)
@@j.b.macadam6516 -
I hope we would have room for those fleeing a fascist takeover in the USA, but the political climate over here is not friendly towards refugees and given that our right-wing tabloids are already clamouring for the border patrol to push grossly overcrowded rubber dinghies full of men, women, and children back out to sea on the South-East Coast I don't know how long we will remain a civilised country. The tens of millions who will arrive on Europe's Eastern and Southern border in coming years fleeing climate disaster and the consequent famines and wars will test our humanity... perhaps to breaking point.
One thing is certain. If those Trumpists think they'd get Freedom under a Fascist Trump Regime, they're dreaming.

@@exiled_londoner I was going to ask you about that extremism and UK also. I think not! The "50 cent brigades" were a worthy investment for some, weren't they?

As s European reading through the comments from both sides of the political spectrum one thing is clear: your beloved USA is real,real sick. The only question that pops up for me. Is it terminal?
USA are in free fall.
God, let’s hope not, but, even from inside, I totally get your POV
It is very sick. I don't think the US is going to go much further until we go through a searching renegotiation of our social contract. As Lincoln said once, this house is divided, but it will not stay divided. Some crisis will arrive, and pass, and we will all go forward with a new understanding of our political terms. But we do not know what those new terms will be, just now. Either voting rights will be respected in every state, or no state. Either racial equality will prosper in all the US, or no place in the US. All the marbles are in the air right now.
@Peter Deij this isn't exclusively in the USA but a phenomenon within the Roman empire, especially where the kingpin of neoliberalism, foxy sky newscorp murdoch has been trumpeting for decades, denying scientific evidence and proven facts without accountability for the consequences thereof. Newscorp murdoch is abusing freedom of speech using his global media empire as a far-right propaganda machine.

@@d.1.a_mayby18 Really... Well, I trade futures (e.g., commodities such as crude oil, gold, and grains such as corn, oats, rice, soybeans, and wheat, etc.). I'm on different trading forums depending on the commodity.
So, for grains, most of the forum is filled with farmers in the mid-West who happen to be both bullish and tRump supporters. In any case, as per crop reports, supply is low and therefore price typically comes up when supply is low.
In less than a year, the price for these grains have nearly doubled... it's NOT "inflation" when market bulls are bidding up the price of food instead of on a tractor in a field WORKING to increase supply - and using U.S. taxpayer-funded bailouts they received from 2017-2020 (collectively, $64 billion) as bribes-for-votes as a direct result of tRump's failed trade war with China which bankrupted many multigenerational farmers who voted for tRump in 2016 (among them, some chose to take their own life).
My response was "America first" meaning that until supply is caught up, the U.S. should ban all grain exports indefinitely. This would also greatly benefit U.S. consumers, as greater supply = lower prices for families who are struggling amid the pandemic. Children in this country are in fact going hungry.
I was blasted vindictively by so many "patriot" (more like "hatriot") farmers who are clearly more interested in supplying China with U.S. grain to feed their hogs vs. children in the U.S.
Thus, your average farmer in the U.S. is a socialist, Communist grifter - a true welfare queen who is too lazy to WORK. Smh. "America first" is NEVER what tRumpism is about - racism is.
Hello pretty how are you doing?

I'm a Canadian living in Europe but I've spent a few winters in Virginia. I believe from my observations that this 'at war' American mentality didn't just develop recently...it's been an integral part of the US collective unconscious for a LONG time. Guns everywhere and taken for granted as being normal...the police approaching most situations as though it's a military operation, including the language they use. More flashing lights and sirens than anywhere else I've ever been. Even your firemen are in 'brigades'. Now without an identified foreign 'enemy' you turned on each other, not because of the actual issues but because in your heads you were already 'at war' and needed somewhere to direct it.
Maybe it's your history, maybe it's all those 1970s cop shows and war films...who knows. But it isn't going to stop until the 'at war' mentality infesting the general population changes.

An illiberal democracy is a governing system in which, although elections take place, citizens are cut off from knowledge about the activities of those who exercise real power because of the lack of civil liberties; thus it is not an open society.
Liberal Democracy
Liberal democracy is generally understood to be a system of government in which people consent to their rulers, and rulers, in turn, are constitutionally constrained to respect individual rights.[...] At a minimum, liberal democracy is characterized by the following:
Widespread political participation by adult citizens, including members of minority groups that include racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, and economic minorities;
Secret ballots and frequent regular elections;
Broad freedom of individuals to form and support political parties, with each party free to present its views and form a government;
Governments that can alter, interpret, and enforce laws to suit (within limits) the majority's preferences;
Effective guarantees of individual and minority rights, especially in areas such as freedom of speech, press, conscience, religion, assembly, and equal treatment before the law; and
Limited governmental powers, which are kept in check by constitutional guarantees including separation of powers (so that all executive, legislative, and judicial powers are not, in effect, exercised by the same person or institution).

No. Something did happen on January 6th, that should be investigated. There's only one side that doesn't want it to be investigated because it fears that it could incriminate many of its leaders. Promoting an egregious lie about losing an election, leading up to an insurrection at the Capitol is very serious. A Facebook data scientist used the company’s “Hate Bait dashboard” to show the top 10 US pages over a recent period of 14 days that led to the most hateful interactions. BuzzFeed News has recreated the post below:
We have a very good idea which actors in the US drive the largest volumes of this kind of content. In the last 14 days, the 10 pages responsible for the largest concentrated volume of likely violating Hate Speech comments have been:
Breitbart
Fox News
The Daily Caller
USA Patriots for Donald Trump
Donald Trump for President
Donald J. Trump
Ben Shapiro
Conservative Tribune by WJ
US Chronicle
The Western Journal
These pages, and a few perennial others that didn’t happen to make the top 10 in the last two weeks, but that you can find by browsing the dashboard, are filling our platform with violent and hateful content at a rate and concentration that is simply overwhelming…

The insurrectionists that stormed the US Capitol on January 6th, did so to keep a flagrant racist (Donald Trump) in power, because he created policy that benefited them and their agenda. Even the FBI identified the insurrectionists as mostly white hate groups (Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, even QAnon is a racially based hate group).
The hate groups have been radicalized by the fundamental belief that the United States must personally nurse their grievances, that American minorities owe them something. The country will become more ill, will wane, and will eventually crumble until Americans (like you) stop misdiagnosing the illness and address this age old cancer, cancer that has been with the country since its inception, a cancer which is literally woven into the fabric of the Constitution and the US flag, a cancer called: Racism.

The label "Republican" is just like the label "Giffords." Several decades ago, the label "Republican" referred to a certain set of values. As the decades passed, the label "Republican" no longer refers to that set of values. But people who identified with the label "Republican" a long time ago do not recognize that the label does not now refer to the same set of values. Unfortunately, a lot of people remained loyal to the label rather than to the values.
Exactly what happened to the original values? Well, a large part of that is the story of the takeover by Koch Brothers Industries. A good starting point is told by Jane Mayer in "Dark Money."
The sad irony is that a lot of the people who are mis-led into loyalty to the label "Republican" are the same people who would benefit the most from a more compassionate liberal approach. The poorer and less privileged people, who have less control over their environment, their quality of life, and their health, are not served well by the values of the party that has usurped the label "Republican."
Tragically, the areas of the US that suffer the highest COVID death rates are generally the areas that are politically predominantly associated with the "Republican" label. The main exceptions to this tragic correlation are the states surrounding Wyoming that are very sparsely populated and so exhibit inherently lower transmission of disease (see facebook.com/photo?fbid=676845049959740&set=a.150369115940672).
