Does it affect the knot much if you go through the main hole at 1:36 rather than through the small loop that you used?

Yes, you need to go through that small loop or it won't work.

Thanks for confirming, I find it will still work going through the other loop but it will be more difficult to untie it. The knot really does look like a Figure 8 sliding knot.@@How2TieKnots
