They like many one hit wonders didn't have the opportunity for having their material played like there is today. Most of their work isn't great but would have done much better had those outlets to be heard that we now have existed then. Dancin in the moonlight is a forgotten gem
@korokigaming8604 EXACTLY ! A band that comes to mind is Redbone from Come & Get your Love fame the album Wovoka. It blew me away every track struck a chord with me. From the album's title track Wovoka, Clouds in my sunshine, Day to day life, 23rd & Mad, Liquid Truth and the rest of it made me a fan and so I had to seek out all their other albums in their discography.
On this day in 1973 {June 29th} King Harvest performed "A Little Bit Like Magic" on the NBC-TV program 'The Midnight Special'... It had entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart on April 29th, 1973 at position #98, the following week it was at #94, then #92, and on its fourth and final week on the chart it peaked at #91... On the same 'Midnight Special' show they also did "Dancing in the Moonlight"; earlier in 1973 on February 18th it reached #13 {for 2 weeks} and it stayed on the Top 100 for 22 weeks... The two above songs were their only entries on the Top 100 chart...
The moment in the beginning where he starts singing and the bass starts up is just so damn cool I keep on rewinding every 15 seconds to listen to it again and again
What...this band is unbelievable!! Came up in 70's, only heard their hit single "Dancing In The Moonlight". Listen to "Borderline" lost tapes version...mad, nother hidden gem!! Luv this tune & their repertoire had far more reach then producers realized.
In a perfect world, they should have not been marked as One Hit Wonders. This is a GREAT underrated song that shoulda had a fair shake--at least it DID save them from being TRUE one-hit wonders by making the 90s on the Billboard Hot 100.
well they took their name from a song by The Band, and I would put them in that categorie, kind of a fusion of many styles, rock, folk, Americana, Jug band jazz... it does seem distinctly American in style, with a vibe that kind of sets the tone, which is why the Beach Boys stepped in after their label 'Perception' folded and signed them on for two records... unfortunately they flopped as well. I almost think it was the biker vibes they threw off on their album covers... dressed in what looks like a dog fur vest, on choppers, looking like they just got back from Altamont. consider that the big single for them was issued with no sleeve... it charted at 13 for some weeks. The album came out a little later with this track... both had the biker sleeves. the LP itself, peaked at 168 in the charts, and the single in the mid 90s... I think their image/pics were too gruff... remember, women buy the most records.
This was a very underrated group for sure. Unfortunately, lineup changes kind of kept them from truly blowing up. However, one of their members, Wells Kelly, went onto form Orleans which was a fairly successful group.

they were excellent musicians..i just think their songwriting ..while interesting--just didnt have enough pop music 'magic'. i think they needed a george martin svengali type to make their tunes catchy. AND---Altbach should have lets his considerable piano talents just blast those tunes. His keyboard parts should have been bigger,,,and of more substance. His little piano loop for dancin was perfect and it made that tune. But that was just one tune.Altbach could play rings around 99% of rock keyboard players. But it didnt show up in the tunes.Im a piano player and i can easily do what rod argent did. But I cannot do what altbach could do.
This is so sad this band didn't get more popular besides Moonlight. I've been checking them on spotify, there stuff is so good!
That’s probably why they made this song, to capitalize on DITM, it’s very sad but it’s a good song
Thanks for the info on this song
Was wondering why it did do any better
Even after it was played on the The Midnight Special
Goddamn right

Dancin in the moonlight is a forgotten gem
This song is exactly why if you find a song you like just Go and check the band out you might just find a gem in the shadow of another

It’s really too bad some people don’t listen to King Harvest aside from Dancing in the Moonlight. This is actually a really good song.
Yes. I just realized
Ver knew they sang anything else just now came across a little bit like magic it's beautiful
This song could easily be used in a GOTG movie it’s so good
A ààaà
Love it. It triggers memories of a more innocent time.
Still love it! Thanks for the thumbs-ups below!
Love this group singing in the car 🚘
Love their songs...abt the moon, sun, breeze on your face...
big tuff guys love this song and how couldn't you
I never get bored with this song. It's simply a part of my history. Now it's always on one of my favorite playlists, in my laptop.
Their hit songs are very uplifting. Feel good lyrics.
ill give this a thumbs up, they have some soul,, almost RB sound,
I dont understand why they were not a number one band. They could've made way better songs if they hadve been popular.
So sad, wasted potential 😢
they were popular but only because of dancing in the moonlight. everything else they made was over looked and ignored
Not gonna lie this song just saved me from giving up on my dreams lol
Another fabulous tune!
Wow! Love this group!
Nice song. It could easily be "Dancing In The Moonlight" Part Deux, because it's quite similiar. Great stuff!
What genre is king harvest, im loving them
Listen to Procol Harum if you like this.
Reminds me a little bit like the doobie brothers’ sound.

real music...not today's c-rap...i meant crap!
Ira Hall Agreed. Today’s music and especially 2016’s music sucks. MOST of it had lost its mojo and has no meaning.
Wrong boys, good music still exists its just bloody hard to find! Vulfpeck are good!
this song is mediocre....they aren't good songwriters. That said the magic was Dancing in the Moonlight--one of the great tunes of all time.
