VA has always been close even though the state has been trending left as you said, there's also Minnesota, but then NJ IL CO RI or NM had margins of below 10 or something this time. Even in states with above-10 margins like NY and WA, Harris underperformed all other Dems before and Trump did better. NJ especially was more competitive on the night than TX, which Dems expected to be a swing state. This election is R+2 or 3 everywhere. It's pretty surreal

Since 2012 the margin in presidential went from 18 to 5 this year. On top of that the recent governor race was also very very close and is projected to be a toss up next year as well.
