Classic Sportscasters: John Hammes, WBBH-TV, 2/3/1989, 11 p.m.

The late sportscast on WBBH-TV, the NBC affiliate in Fort Myers, Fla. on Feb. 3, 1989. Sportscaster John Hammes reports on the USA's Davis Cup tennis competition against Paraguay, golf news, Bill White being named president of the National League, and NBA scores and highlights.

WBBH was still on the Grass Valley 1600 switcher. It was sitting on sawhorses at this point as they were building a new control room. You can tell it is a GVG 1600 by the rounded corners on the OTS box. The OTS graphics are being played back from a Dubner DSS-4 still store. Their previous method was to put the graphics on to TCR-100 carts. (2" videotape) The Dubner replaced this just months prior. The character generator is the venerable Chyron IV. It's crazy, I see that shot of John, and I know exactly where that key light is. I probably replaced the lamp a hundred times.
