What is raw and real is always best unpolished. This is why they are such an enigma as a live, touring band. Any band that is better live than in the studio has something special. And special is an understatement with this band.
the simplest songs are always the most beautiful to me. Funny that here, it's a simple song about having a simple life. The chorus of just "I am happier with nothing. I am happier with nothing. I am happier with nothing" WOW. It could have just been that for 60 seconds and I would have felt moved. I hope these guys really live the meaningful, fulfilled lives that they sing about in their songs, because they have helped me in shaping my own.
This is so beautiful. I love Scott and Seth Avett so much. I went to see the Avett Brothers in Waukegan, IL, about a month ago. Best show of my life. The following week I drove 3 hrs straight of out work (by myself) to see them again in Grand Rapids, MI. They have just touched me right down to the bones.

This is a great song. The words tell one story...the music and singing tell another. It's like he is trying to convince himself that he believes what he is saying, but, in the end, his face and voice give it away that he doesn't believe a word he has said. It's brilliant.
i, too, have always felt that it was partially him trying to convince himself of what he's saying. i wonder, tho, if seth or scott wrote this? or if scott wrote it thinking of his brother and his life changes. either way, it cuts to the core of your heart.
