That reminds me of an old tri-cycle John Deere tractor my dad had. It rans so slow it seemed like it stopped until it fired again, every second or so.... had a huge flywheel on the side to keep it rolling through between strokes.

I love the sound too. Nothing better than a semidiesel running....

I saw your profil and your int. of cruiseships. I was one week on a cruise with

You always get a picture of the reliability of these engines by the bloke in the engine room? Alert, conscious, semi conscious, unconscious, (asleep)? If the blokes asleep and the boat is making progress well it has a reliable engine.

Look at her, beautiful still running like a clock, The engineer sure knows his job everything spotless. A+ I`d love i to look in her engine room.

What was the make of the engine?
300hp isn't much for a tugboat by today's standards but this could haul the biggest ships at sea at the time it was made.

The captain Stig Helge Samuelson, like to handle it with care.
You kan see his comments on this page.
The propellers is adjustable so you dont need a gear.
The pitch can go from fast forward to zero and to then revers.

Yes, slowly and usually at an angle. The old direct reversing diesels had to be stopped, levers needed to be moved then it would be started in reverse. That took time and sometimes they didn't restart... More than one ended up crashing into the dock.

Han har rätt på ett sätt... från början var maskinen "omkastbar" som man säger, men blev ombyggd till "reverserande" propeller just för att det hände olyckor när startluften tog slut och maskinen inte startade..

many Diesels especially marine types are 2 stroke. This enables them to start and run in either direction. This engine looks kind of like a hot bulb engine.

Strange that it only sounds like a twin!!? Shame that departure was so gentle, it surely didnt do it justice. It appeared that wind caught it and took it to sea.

En unikt motor som det snart er ingen igjen av dessverre, desto viktigere er det da å ta vare på de få som enda eksisterer. Enda viktigere er det å ta vare på slikt som denne, fullt brukbar, i god stand og går som den alltid har gjort.

If that's an old tug, where is the 'towing frame' that is usually mounted on top of the hull, that the ropes or cables hook on to?

    • @seikibrian8641
      @seikibrian8641 8 років тому +2

It's been converted, but the towing bit would have been on the aft deck where the canvas cover now creates a passenger area. (It may still be there, but not visible in this video; it would probably have been an "H-bit" like this one: tugboatsonline.com/boat_yard/rope_boats/ropeworkingstern.jpg.)

estos motores tan viejos como la orilla del mar. son simples; tienen pocas piezas en movimiento y son faciles de reparar y de hacer diagnostico de un posible fallo. con cargas reducidas funciona muy bien y a baja velocidad. ( maximo 400 R.P.M. )
