Girl, stop apologising for making long videos! 😂 That’s what we are here for! Though I loved the deep dive and I admire and appreciate the work the author and illustrator have put into this deck, it’s not for me and that’s ok. So thanks for showing us!
Damoiselle is an old medieval French term meaning a young unmarried girl of noble birth. Translated to « Lady » as the closest English translation, but it really means the female child of a Lady ☺️ nowadays the title « mademoiselle » (similar) just refers to a young unmarried girl (Miss)
Hi. OMGosh...I came out today and saw in the mail box a "package". Didn't have time to retrieve it as I was on my way to catch a bus. When I did come back home, I took my package and I knew that this was my new tarot cards and they came EARLY. (I was told February 5th., ) Once I got all settled, I finally cut the packaging, and there they were wrapped in bubble wrap. This Deck. Loved the unboxing process and a "proper box"!.😁 The Art Work is beautiful. The Gilding, and in due time, my French will come back 😉. As now, I am eager to get into it. You did an amazing review on this Deck and it has been a long time since I read, The Mists of Avalon, so it was nice to hear your references and the connections. Even though I bought this Deck, it was indeed a Merry Christmas to me.😁🥰
I've been going down an internet rabbit hole to try and figure out why the Tudor rose is in the box because the Tudors were a good thousand years later?! I think Henry VIII tried to legitimise his reign with a supposed connection to Arthur, and his older brother who was intended to be king was named Arthur after the legend. Henry later had the Tudor Rose painted on a table that is thought to be *the* round table. So there is an intertwined history there but I think it's an odd choice to use a later symbol that used the Arthurian legend for political propaganda as the tarot back... But anyway! Apologies for the essay-length comment. Really enjoyed this extended deep dive, I have been wanting to get an Arthurian deck. The art in this is beautiful, I am kind of holding out hope for an English translation but making your own notes seems like an excellent way to study the deck!
On his marriage, Henry VII adopted the Tudor rose badge conjoining the White Rose of York and the Red Rose of Lancaster. The Tudor rose symbolized the English monarchy since Henry VII's time, therefore it also became the heraldic emblem of William and Mary's reign.
So happy I got my hands on this. I love Ana Tourian’s art so I had to get it. It’s such an amazing deck and I hope it gets an English version so even more people can enjoy it.
Between you and Marine showing this deck I am so tempted to get this! Arthurian Legends are one of my "things", along with Greek/Roman Mythology, Animals, and Witches, but I dont have anything Arthurian in my tarot/oracle library. Which thinking about it is totally bizarre! I'll give it more thought!
Can’t wait to watch your video and deep dive with you when I get home tonight 👏❤️ this deck is really out of this world. Poetic storytelling is what I call this type of tarot ✨ 😊
Love this tarot - so happy to have it! Yes that is the Tudor Rose ( white petals represent the House of York and the red represent the House of Lancaster united in marriage).
Thank you so much for this Lisa. I’ve had this deck for a few weeks because I love the art work but i haven’t really used it. This has really inspired me to pick it up and find out more about King Arthur and the legends. I was lucky enough to visit Glastonbury this week (the isle of Avalon) so definitely the right time 🥰
WOW YOU ROCK!!! I received this deck a few weeks ago. I am so excited about your deciphering ❤️ I was thinking the flower on the back was from the death card flag??
Great analysis. I'm on the fence about this deck because of the cost, but this has been helpful. Appropriate to have Merlin as the Fool because according to some he remembers the future and doesn't remember the past. The 78 Carnival Tarot has an old Fool, fyi.
I collect Arthurian tarot cards and I love them all but this one is my favorite which I bought last fall. Even though it's in French I just had to have it. I also use the google translate app but I have to admit if it comes out in English, I'll buy that version too.
That is the Tudor Rose, and it's the traditional plant heraldry for England, like the shamrock is for Ireland or the daffodil for Wales. That may be the connection? It also symbolizes the monarchy, as in King Arthur, maybe. I'm not aware of any other symbology, but that doesn't mean there isn't one.
The Tudor Rose symbolises the union between the House of York (white rose) and the House of Lancaster (red rose), who had been fighting a bloody civil war for the English throne. Henry of Lancaster beat Richard of York (King Richard III) in battle, becoming King Henry VII. But to ensure lasting peace, he married Elizabeth of York, bringing the families together. (It was one of my favourite bits of history we learned in school. 😅)
Hi Lisa, thank you for sharing the walking through on this deck. You still sound croaky you poor thing. I really enjoyed watching. Terri from Australia 💜 🇦🇺 🦘

Google translate is awesome. It has been so helpful working with my copy of Siolo Thompson 's "Funambule/Tight rope walker/Linestrider Tarot". And that "Oracle of Echoes" pairing is perfect.

The heirphant isn’t Merlin, it is the scribe Blaise.
Thanks for the correction, could have sworn the guidebook said Merlin so I must have misread, then. :)
Blaise chronicled the experiences of the knights and confidences of the Merlin.
@@laurabondurant5096 Thank you :)
@@laurabondurant5096 was he also like a mentor/father to Merlin?
I don’t think so. Just a scribe. Don’t quote me on it.
