  • This may seem simple to some, but to others that have never used a soldering iron or torch, this is quite a task. I hope this little video will help convince others to try their hand at making new cabling right at home!

Coincidentally, I have a 100' section of RG213 that needs to be shortened down to about 75'. You put this video out at just the right time. Thanks.

Good job 👍 . I absolutely hate doing these on 213 coax . It’s what I run so I had to do it last year . Of the whole project start to finish , that was the part I dreaded the worst ! I did mine just like you , but mine still didn’t look as pretty in the end 🤦🏼‍♂️. But I ohm checked everything several times and it was good , I’ve had no issues. But these things are much more work than Mini8 and a reducer collar .

I've gotten away from 2 piece UHF connectors for either RG 58 or 8 x. I use the crimp on type connectors anymore. I know some people don't like them, and there are times in rf connections need to be soldered. However, I use the ones that DX engineering sales. They're not cheap at $5 a piece. Also, having the correct tools , anyone's budget or better half will allow it, makes the job easier and go quicker. Just a foot note or two, N connectors can be a real SOB in putting them on RG 213 , Belden 9913, LMR 400. Erik , please let us know your status on retesting to upgrade for your general or extra. Love to work your station on " Farpoint Farm in the mountains of North Carolina".

Eric you could put some shrink tube on the end and that'll protect the wire from corrosion to. Have a great day God bless

Nice one. I would just add to the end for those that haven't soldered one before to check there's no short between the centre and braid with a multimeter. I've been using compression pl259s of late so I don't have to solder the braid.

Wish I had a quarter for every PL259 I have soldered to cable. But being an old feller, it was only RG58U or RG8.
