Happy days matey 😉 I generally avoid the CD based consoles when looking at these conversions as quite often they are direct ports. WH Smiths used to be decent for games etc..... Good Old Days 😉
The 8bit versions were worth it purely for the awesome Bob Wakelin cover art - the game being brilliant was just the icing on the cake! My favourite C64 game.
Just found you on UA-cam. Enjoyed your video, I also live in uk. I knew of this game but never really got to play it, saw in screenshots tho!. Growing up I Loved bubble bubble, brother had that on Amiga always jealous! I used to sneak games. as I had C64 which was good but it was tough sometimes seeing my brother play the Amiga. Shame I didn’t have this one C64 port looks fun!
Hi and welcome to the channel.... C64 and Amiga were both class computers and I was lucky enough to have both in my gaming journey... Gonna do some more VS videos in the near future. So keep an eye 😎🍺
Bought this new for the 128K ZX Spectrum, back in the day. Took about 12.5 minutes to load from tape but well worth the wait, for such a great game, and no subsequent multi loading. For me the control response in ZX Spectrum is so good, playing via keyboard, I actually find it responds better than the PS1 version, which I boght as a present for my brother who still has a PS1 console, it was the combo CD with Bubble Bobble, another great game, for BB the PS1 I like more than arcade, it's that heavy bass in the background music score, it really makes a difference, on Bubble Bobble. Btw, converted for 8-bit by Graftgold. Collect the RED and Yellow potion bottles for power up, along with numerous other bonus items to collect and use along the way. Great video OG, Cheers!
Hi mark glad this fetched back some great memories and thanks for sharing loading time info etc !!!! Much appreciated, as you say a long loading time but worth it 😉
As always great video OG.. i loved Rainbow Islands on my Amiga... the soundtrack was great. I loved the follow up title - Parasol Stars. Spent hours on it. Keep up the great content.
Slightly off-topic, but the home micro versions of Rainbow Islands were originally going to be published by Firebird. But then Microprose bought that label from British Telecom, and Taito cried foul. In its own words, Taito said it had sold the license to Firebird and not Microprose, and so, due to the terms of the contract, the Graftgold conversion was open to new bidders. Ocean won, and the rest is rainbows and sugar-induced diabetes. BUT, this did mean for a brief while there was alternate cover art for the game, which was never used. This was featured in the bimonthly magazine/catalogue of the Home Computer Club, printed before the Micropose sale, and it was significantly different from the later Wako art. It didn't resemble the original arcade game's kawaii look either, being more 'Edwardian Storybook' in style, but still very colourful. My only question is, where is it? I've been searching for a while, and to no avail. Are there any pointers?
Great knowledge and thanks for sharing this info…. It never fails to impress me the knowledge we have on this community and the info we share. Hopefully someone will find or know the ad your talking about 🤞
Yess, a versus video 😁 all looked good, but of course as a c64/amiga guy, those i liked the best 🙈 I never played this and did not own it, but luckily i remebered that that in The big retro buy i did Last saturday that i Mentioned in tuesdays vlog comment, this game is on one the floppy disk that came with the buy, i Will have to try it and let's hope it Will work 🤞Bubble bobble is a great fun game, played it as 2 player game on Pc with my cousin Back in the Day and wow that brought good memories Back 😎 of course i have that still in my c64 collection. Take care and see you in the next one 🍺🙂
It’s a great game and if you like Bubble Bobble then this will not disappoint matey 😉 Great find in that disc and fingers crossed that it works buddy 😉👍🤞
Fairplay duffy buddy I think apart from the speccy version I could play all those versions today. Funny enough I been playing quite abit of the master system version this week, hoping to complete it soon.... hoping to that is 😂 I remember playing the megadrive extra version and thinking why was the background black 😂
Nice one OG, this was one of my all time favourite games. The Amiga version I loved the best completed it many times, you needed to get all 7 diamonds on every level which got you... Something special won't spoil it for you if you are out to complete it...if you get the diamonds in order 😊 oh and there is a timer where water comes up so. On the later islands there is an Easter egg of Gor and break out 😊 loved this game m8 my son used to sit and watch me play it for hours and hey it was a joystick haha
It’s so well done and to be honest a game I gave little to no interest in back in the day, but glad I have now 😎🍺 Classic memories and sounds like you know what your doing with this title matey 😎🍺
The Nintendo entertainment system has flicker too. It is a limitation of the amount of sprites that can be programmed at one time. You would notice more often on the SEGA Master System, but the SEGA Master System is actually more technical than the Nintendo entertainment system.
If I had to pick one I’d probably go with the pc engine. I find it has the brightest colours and nicest music. I could be wrong but I thought the mega drive extra only changed out the enemy types? Not a fan of the black background at all, just seems wrong for such a jolly game.
Hi matey its a great conversion for sure... A real rarity for all systems to have a decent conversion for that time. The MD black screen was odd and then strangely goes back to blue after LVL1.....?????
Just shows if a decent developer does the conversion then every version can end up great . Well done graft gold For me the c64 for the 8 bits as better sounds ,smoother than the others 8 bits . and the amiga version due to the better sound than atari st version
ZX Spectrum I would place 🥇 , it seemed to be the smoothest, C64 🥈 as it was smoother than the Amstrad so 🥉 for Amstrad for it’s not so smoothness I’m an Atari STe user back in the days and have to give it to the Amiga because them yellow bricks v the ST red looking bricks And give 1st 🥇 🥈 🥉 to all as it’s down to one’s preference at the end of the day which ones best One game back in the day I didn’t really see in my arcades and so didn’t play it, 😭😢
Never heard of it, not really a gamer. However, when I was younger I did play on PS. Id love to see u play and ur thoughts on Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee please. If u do, please could u tag me??
I’m a millennial but I love this game. I remember playing it with me mate from primary school on the master system.

I first played it on Amiga in the late 80's at computer club. Yes I went to a computer club in a evening after school.
An Amiga at the computer club... You were lucky best my school could do was a BBC Micro.

Cheers matey such a great conversion ! Can see why it’s a favourite of yours as a lovely conversion 😎🍺
Definitely a classic and I also had it for the Amiga. I'm sure there is a collection on the Saturn too, which would have been arcade perfect.
Yes matey it is on the Saturn and a PS1 collection too I believe?
Don’t generally include them, as you say usually perfect arcade crossovers😉🍺

You know I'm a 64 guy, but if I were judging on graphics alone, I would've given it to the Amstrad... that looks almost pixel perfect!

Hi matey as I said this one passed me by and like yourself was more a Bubble Bobble man myself 😉 A great conversion on this one though 😎🍺
@OGDuffy , well, yeah in rarity/collector/value...but wasn't thinking that way in 1992 (and in truth, streets of rage is much better !)
