Get that deed out of the cabin and in the hands of your lawyer ( a copy) and a safe deposit box along with the title and survey when those HOA goons broke in they were trying to steal it tamper with it or destroy ( and most likely the latter) it, they have just decided they don't like you and therefore have decided you have to go. When of course you " abandon" your property or " refuse to pay dues" they will file a " lien" and seize his property, all for " the good of the community" of course! But when the goons went after him with nightsticks he would have been within his rights to respond with force rather greater than his bare hands, as those sticks could seriously injure or kill,

I liked this story, but it has a few flaws. The tag line does not match the dialog, because the HOA officers never forced the landowner to apologize. The picture on which the dialog is projected does not show a scene mentioned in the story, as the President was there both times the HOA goons showed up. If the roof above the deck looked anything like the picture, the cabin would have rotted away from rain runoff. Finally, the idea that the HOA would be able to enforce a part time residency rule in an entire town defies logic.

The court case kind of makes me wonder if it would be correct in a real context. I would think the only case he had would be against HOA harassment, basically about the legality of them trying to evict him for a season and threats of fines or actual fines and imposing rules he didn't sign up for, the security breaking in. The issue of the HOA president using fines for personal reasons is a separate issue the membership should have taken her to court, for improprieties and bullying tactics and whatever more issues applied. I don't see how those two issues could be combined in real circumstances. The author of the story took free license I would guess.
