    The 2019 Toyota RAV4 comes with a 2.5L A25A-FKS 4 cylinder engine with an 8 speed automatic transmission. Interesting aspects of the new RAV4 include:
    - Electric water pump and coolant shut off valves
    - Active grille shutter
    - EGR system
    - High pressure pump for direct injection
    - EVAP canister inside the fuel tank
    - Brake booster vacuum pump & electric brake booster
    - McPherson front suspension
    - Multilink rear suspension (TNGA platform)
    - Electric steering with rack-mounted motor
    - Electric variable valve timing actuator and gearset
    - Active engine mounts
    - Transfer case, differential and driveshaft for AWD/4WD system
    - Transmission fluid is serviceable despite not having a pan
    - Airbag door skin pressure sensor
    Overall the RAV4 is easy to service for owners wanting to conduct their own maintenance and repairs. The quality of some components is sometimes questionable but on par with what the auto industry has moved towards recently.

    SOMEONE GIVE THIS MAN A MEDAL. i just bought a 2019 rav4 adventure. As someone who works on/modifys cars themselves, having this video helps out a ton to understand what work can/needs to be done in the future and most importantly, what can be handled at home. Love that the suspension in this vehicle isn't overly engineered, spark plugs/coils are easy to replace as are on most toyotas. I was previously driving an 01 Pathfinder and although its an awesome vehicle, spark plugs were a bit of a pain to get to.

      The RAV4 is a surprisingly good off reader. It’s much better than many Body on Frame SUVs off road because it has good ground clearance, moderate size and weight.

    • @KuddlKat
      @KuddlKat 4 роки тому +5

      I think most of us were hoping for something a little tougher than a car, but didn't want something as work-specific as a truck. So maybe not off-roading, but could hop the occasional curb or survive a heavily-rutted rural road if need be.

    • @piecetrain9767
      @piecetrain9767 4 роки тому +8

      Tell that to my RAV4! It gets me up and down steep forest roads, some fairly rocky "jeep trails" per maps (I certainly classify them as such), across creeks, etc. But it is no rock crawler and I have turned around when it got to that point. But it does exactly what I bought it to do, get me places average vehicles cannot get so I can hike and bike. Great review. Thumbs up.

    • @user-tb7rn1il3q
      @user-tb7rn1il3q 2 роки тому +1

      JJ, pretty sneaky deleting your comment so I can’t reply. I received the email, so I’m going to respond anyway. The 5th Gen RAV4 is more off road capable than many body on frame SUVs. I’ve had mine in the woods in the mud. I was on a game trail, not a gravel road. This would have completely destroyed a Civic or any sedan if it could even get traction. The 5th Gen RAV4 is a tough reinforced unibody utility.

    I have a 2020 RAV4. Didn't know it had both fuel injection systems. I like the plastic under the front end. It keeps things cleaner. You can buy Mobil 1 0W-16 at Walmart. I changed the original oil and filter using Toyota oil and filter for the warranty. I think Toyota used Mobil 1 at the one year " First oil change." The actual first oil change was in May of last year. "Oil is cheap, engines are expensive!"
    Many things I've noticed in 15 months of ownership. One I like is put the key in the ignition (mine is the base unit, no hybrid or extra flashy stuff) and before you turn the key on, the fuel pump primes the system. You can hear it. I replaced the interior lighting from dull incandescent bulbs to LED bulbs. Much better at night. The electric P/S is so nice and smooth! No pump, hoses, fluid, rack valves or other problems! I put Weather Tech floor mats front and rear, also cargo mat with the drop down "bib" to protect the outside. Last item is the upper cargo cover over the rear cargo area. Keeps things "under cover." Fuel mileage is very good. I like the MPG gauge between the tach and speedo. You can keep the "right now" mileage high which helps at the gas pump.
    Surprisingly peppy engine, with good acceleration! Step into the gas, it takes off quickly! However let up quickly after stepping into it, there's a definite amount of lag time before the transmission shifts to a higher gear, so the engine is left at a higher RPM. It is a light weight unibody vehicle which means you hear the road and feel the bumps while driving. But OVERALL, I'm very impressed with the vehicle and like it a lot! And the SiriusXM radio is GREAT also!

    I like that it's one of the few engines left on SUVs of this class that still uses an aspirated engine. That's especially important on the hybrid. I honestly have no idea why you'd stick a turbo in a hybrid car, with all those thermal cycles. Toyota definitely knows what they're doing.

    Have you done any videos where you do a sort of wrap up on a specific group of vehicles you have reviewed with overall pros/cons? I would be very interested in your opinion of which is the best engineered, based on mechanics, predicted reliability, etc. CX-5, Rav4, and Santa Fe are often reviewed together, but of course they do not go into the kind of detail that you're doing.

      Personally, I’d like to see the Ford Escape since it would make a nice comparison to the RAV4 video. Overall, it is nice to see these technical breakdowns of common vehicles. Most channels that go into tech specs concentrate on exotic cars that only rich and upper middle class people can buy.

    We have a 2015 Mazda CX-9 with the Ford Cyclone 3.7 engine. Made it to 83,000 miles before the water pump went out and ruined the engine because it's located inside the timing cover. Glad to see Toyota didn't make that bonehead mistake with their engines.

    The “beauty cover” over the engine I don’t really care about, I took mine off my Corolla. Must admit though I’m not too crazy about a plastic valve cover. Plastic gets old, dries out, cracks, and will eventually need to be replaced as the vehicle ages. Valve covers are an easy morning to remove and replace but still, I prefer metal.

    • @speedkar99
