  • I'm a big fan of Stego Wrap under my slab-on-grade foundations. This is a durable material that will protect my homes from excess moisture migrating through the slab for the life of the house. Find out more on this product at www.stegoindust...

Be sure to stabilize your video BEFORE adding a watermark, otherwise the watermark will not be stationary

I was wondering if there is a difference between a Moisture Barrier and Vapor barrier?
Also Thank you Matt your the best. I am an Arch student here in California and I been learning a wealth of information. Thank you so much for providing these videos.

+Donnie Estrada good question! I should make a video on that topic. Moisture barrier deals with bulk water. Rain, groundwater, etc. Vapor barrier is stopping water vapor in the ground or air from getting past.

at the end of the day its the same thing, you wanna stop any kinda water/vapor to make contact with your slab.. call it vapor or moisture barrier, this thick 15 mill plastic will protect against vapor or water as Matt mentioned..

What happens at the perimeter beam on the out side edge. Do you run it up the side? How do you end it?

I hate companies that don't list prices and I have to call for a price, it means it's overpriced.

"15 mil" as in 15 millimetres?
    Like 3/4"?
    Or is it 1.5mm?
I keep hearing people refer to this stuff as "15 mil" and "10 mil" but I'm not understanding if you're referring to millimetres.
1.5mm is still very thick plastic sheeting.

A mil is a thousandth of an inch. So 15 mils = 0.015 inches

Thanks for your answer. I was about to ask the same thing. Then, '10 mil' would be 250 micron, for us in the metric world (pretty much all of it...)

I've only ever heard my older relatives refer to a thousanth of an inch as a "thou" never as a mil.
Do people in the US use "thou" as well as "mil" or is it an old english/australian thing??

So this is more of a moisture barrier than a vapor barrier?

Hi Matt, I live in San Antonio (so not too far from you), and I'm having trouble finding contractors that do crawl space encapsulation / vapor barrier installation in this area. Do you happen to know anyone? Only company I've been able to find is Baird Foundation. Thanks!

great videos but just a bit of feedback, your intro is very loud compared to the actual content (annoying when trying to quietly listen at night)
