How much heat gets released or absorbed in a chemical reaction? We'll learn how to calculate this. We will use molar mass and conversion factors to figure out the enthalpy change in exothermic and endothermic reactions, which are represented by thermochemical equations.
7 years later, his videos still make a difference in grades. thank you man
Sir*
... 8 years later
yeah, apparently my brother's girlfriend used this guy to pass college, I see why!
9 years and counting!
@@egloodude9550 10 now!
It's called "Introduction to Thermochemistry and Enthalpy."
This video is really helpful. Thank you so much. I am able to catch up for our midterm exams.
@@returnofjedii2033 same dude
why am i getting negative # ? while yours is positive?
Do more videos on "Calculating the change in Enthalpy using Hess's Law" please! Thank you
Why don't we multiply the negative number??
You da best man!!! Why you are not making videos anymore? You're 100x better than my chemistry teacher
ikr that's a exactly what I wanted to say
not enough money coming through donations
He has a job at MIT
Pretty sure he died
@@4erkq yea.. such a shame tho, he could've taught us so much more
That sad moment your paying for college and you use Khan Academy and Tyler DeWitt to learn since they teach better for free!
agent475816 Nah, Tyler DeWitt is a savior. My professor explains things in 5 seconds which is EXACTLY what I find problematic.
agent475816 How can someone 'try look smart' if they 'dumb it down to a 3rd grade level'? And if you're so well accomplished why exactly are you watching this video? it's clearly aimed at people who don't understand, so if you "know all this stuff" why are you watching?
agent475816 He explains everything within 3 minutes but does examples for the rest of the video...
agent475816 You may want to re think your argument.
agent475816 Is that not the point of the video? for people who don't know much? i don't understand why someone who understands this would be watching tutorials on it....
You're right, I just forgot to add a negative sign. Sorry about that.
Saved my butt, dude. Have a test today and I basically became an expert on this overnight because of you. My teacher isn't particularly bad, in fact he's pretty good but I'm taking summer courses and those are always rushed and go by extremely fast. You're a lifesaver.
a great question! in an exothermic reaction, the heat would be consider a product. because products are things that get made by a reaction, and here heat is getting made.
who are you responding to?

Hey everyone, I'm here to help. If you have any questions or just want to learn more, click on the link in the description above. It'll take you to a page where you can ask me questions.
Please help me how to perform calculations on the rate of chemical reaction
You're amazing!! I've been having the most difficult time with Chemistry and you are helping soo much. Thanks for the videos, really appreciate it
Dude you just saved my life ! I have tried tutors on campus but they all sound like Charlie Brown's teacher...whawha wa wha wha waaa lol, and my teacher has a funny way of telling you to figure it out yourself when you ask him questions.... I bet I wont be getting another C on these dang quizzes! Thank you for the videos Tyler!
I would be failing chemistry without you. You make it so much easier to understand everything because you go step by step and describe everything your doing. Please keep making these videos, and I also saw you Ted talk a while ago and completely agreed with everything you were saying. Keep up the good work!
The best chemistry teacher in the world. Uses visual and audio tools so so well. Explains chemistry in simple layman terms. Amazing!!
Literally passing chem because of your channel thank you so much, lifesaver!!!
HOW are you able to make chemistry as easy to understand as an episode of Sesame Street? Thanks you!
Jarrod Kearney I find sesame street harder to understand.
LIKE TIMES A MILLION! I'm a pre-nursing major in college, and we covered this concept in General Chemistry 1 today and I was SO lost until I found your video! Thank you SO much! Keep the videos coming!!
You are literally everybody’s grade saviour. You deserve so much more views because your videos explain chemistry so meticulously, and I really hope more people would be exposed to your passion for chem. Thank you so much, please never stop educating and inspiring people 💙
I really like the way you teach, go over the problem and then explain what you just did. I really absorbed everything you tried to tell the audience. There needs to be more professors like you. Thank you.
8 years since you posted this and it still saved my life, thank you
I love how he finds the most simple ways to solve problems instead of doing the whole mole conversion table this makes more sense to me thank you so much Mr.DeWitt and god bless you!!!
This was so great. Everything was so organized and I loved how you put the conversions on those notecards so you can show how you can choose one or the other. Thank you so much!
Man i always give other "youtubers" a shot but they never make it as simple as you man. You are GREATLY appreciated my good sir
It's amazing how in a few minutes you can make something that a teacher has been trying to teach for a week so easy to understand..
he is a naturally patient guy and his occasional smiles boosts us to keep going great job tyler
I have to say Tyler, your Vids are great. I particularly enjoy not waiting for you to write things down (you have it all set and ready to go on cards). Seriously, one of the finer aspects of your tutorials!
Tyler, thanks so much for your help! Your videos have been a great tool for me throughout my class. Chemistry is such a challenging subject for me and you really break things down and simplify the problems! I was working at these problems for hours last night and just couldn't grasp it, and now after watching your explanations, I have it down pat! Thanks again!
Thank you Dr. Tyler! I’m beyond thankful for your videos! I’m a pre-med student and my professors are not the best, so most of the time I need to relay on the internet to help me, your videos have been so so so so helpful. The most hard thing for me to understand was Enthalpy, I watched your other video explaining endothermic and exothermic reactions and it saved my live. I don’t know why professors like to make everything seem hard. I wouldn’t be able to tell you how thankful I am to you and your videos, your teaching is so fun, it makes the subject so interesting and I always want to learn more. Thank you so so much ❤️
This man has fostered an enjoyment in Chemistry, something I thought I would never experience. Thank you!
You have no idea how helpful these vides are! I owe you my life lol.
Thanks for helping me through midterms yo!
Let me first say that you are the only reason I haven't dropped out of my chemistry class. Also, I would like to say that you truly have a special gift for teaching; you are the only person who explains things in a way that makes sense! Lastly, I would happily pay a monthly subscription to have access to all of your videos (*hint hint PLEASE MAKE MORE). Anyway, I just wanted to say that you're the best and thank you for all you do. (:
finally! i've watched so many videos on this and you're the first one that actually explains the equation. THANK YOU!
9 years later still your videos are the best. Thanks
I have a quiz on thermochemistry today, and a final on Friday. This guy is very good at teaching this material. I would have paid money for him to teach me the chemistry I needed to learn to pass this class.
